Sophie Kenyon, Miss Nottingham 2005 contestant

Sophie Kenyon, Miss Nottingham 2005 finalist

Interview with Katie Hall
Sophie Kenyon, at 17, is one of the youngest contenders hoping to be crowned Miss Nottingham.

About Katie Hall

I'm a mild punk-rocker who has been enjoying the delights of Nottingham over the past three years in the ways that students generally do. My first love was Zappa the cat, named after his highness Frank. My second is my dad's vinyl collection.

Sophie hopes that her involvement in the competition will lead to bigger and brighter things in the future, but she very nearly missed out altogether:

"My neighbour saw the advertisement and told me I should send some pictures in. I thought I'd missed the boat as I sent them in pretty late, but they called me on the morning of the auditions to ask me to come along so I made it just in time! I'd like to make it as a model and I might be able to move on from Miss Nottingham whether I win or not."

Sophie wants to turn a quality of hers that had always been thought of as awkwardness into success, "winning would mean a lot to me, as I always used to be put down about my height, so it would give me confidence." But Sophie has no lack of confidence in her legs.

"I'd like to be a supermodel or at least a catwalk model. I've got the height for it, and certainly the legs! I'm not an average girl, and don't ever want to be."

The competition is also about representing Nottingham though, and Sophie says she would like to flaunt her title while taking part in city events, especially if they involved the chance to increase her top bowling score.

"I like the nightlife, the entertainment, going to restaurants and the cinemas in Nottingham. My perfect day would involve going shopping and buying outfits for the evening, and then going bowling with my mates."

Some typical beauty pageant questions…

If I could change one thing about the world… I'd eliminate racism, its better than it has been in the past but it's still a huge problem and the world would be a great deal better without it.
