Part 3 or 4?

Simon Mayo|09:53 UK time, Thursday, 20 September 2012

Well here's a blog live from the back of a taxi heading to a train and another school of bright eager young things. When they set off to school this morning ready to fill their heads with Geog. Hist. Eng. etc little did they know that they'd get some radio bloke telling them about his book for 40 minutes. I shall smile and wave my arms a lot and hope this passes for an entertaining alternative to academic rigour. Tea and biscuits will then be served in the staff room and the state of education/the BBC/both will be discussed. And music requests taken.

Then back to R2 for some DT with Nigel performing with some tagliatelle and assorted gubbins to make it more difficult for Matt to follow. And it seems about right to do autumnal oldies. The equinox is this weekend (Saturday I think) so equal day and night etc and the tilt of the earth's axis is inclined neither towards the sun or way from it. But you know all this stuff. Let's just play Jean Michelle Jarre and be done with it!

Have a stimulating and well-managed Thursday, see you after 5

Just catching up on a few things from yesterday...

Well done to Autumn_Gale and PhilMewis for the Chasing Cars mensh. As I mentioned before, I love the song - although curiously it reminds me of Richard Hammond's crash as it was being played a lot during the period he was in hospital... It's always lovely to hear bloggers names but especially when it's people who don't often get menshed. And I say that with no irony whatsoever - I get slightly embarrassed if my name (whichever version!) gets read out too often, which is why I sometimes back away from the choon choosing.

Thanks to those who texted/messaged me about Mark King being on The One Show. Unfortunately I went out about 5 minutes before his appearance. I'll be watching on iThingy later...

Lovely to see Jilly's appearance earlier this morning. Missing you!

    Hi Simon and everyone

Must say my sympathies with you Simon in this sad time, thinking of you and your family, another angel to keep my dad company, 4 and a half months now! ;(

Heard yesterday that my contract here ends next week ;( they are happy with my work and work ethic though its just that because I want to make sure the accounts are 100% right and insist on perfection they dont charge enough to their clients for this kind of service and believe you me most of their clients records are appalling ( plastic bag jobs full of receipts and unopened bank statements) the clients expect accounts to prepared for peanuts from unstructured records!!! "rolls eyes"

Anyway I have sent numerous emails to my contacts so hopefully I will be gainfully employed again soon!

    Morning all

Had a busy couple of days, so not been around much on here or to hear the show!

#27 - that is the nature of the small acc'y practice this days I'm afraid!

Some excellent tunes to choose from, so I'm going to pass, but as a September baby, the Neil Diamond song always resonates with me.

Daughter has to go to the dentist later for a Supernumery ttooth to be extracted! It's an extra milk tooth right at the front so it needs to go so her new big teeth incisors come down straight. She's only ever had a check up before so hopefully all will go well.

    Cheers

Greetings, fellow bloggers. It's been very wet here recently the boss's new boat may come in handy if things continue.

Not an easy subject today, but I suggest

NORTHERN LIGHTS - RENAISSANCE - we are entering the months when these appear and it's also Blackpool Illumination time

I like the suggestions of Forever Autumn (always a good song, if somewhat overplayed on a certain radio station that isn't rough, if you get my meaning) and also Level 42 - Sun Goes Down - I share a birthday with Mark King (and Tom Petty) for what it's worth.

  • Comment number 41.

#25 Coincidentally I have just been reminded that it was six years ago today that 'the Hamster' had his 300 mph crash. You know that thing where you remember vividly what you were doing when you heard a significant piece of news? - I was on board a boat doing a Day Skipper course, and we had been doing some night sailing practice coming up the River Orwell in the dark. We'd just tied up and were having a cup of cocoa, and I noticed I had a text from a friend. She was telling me that Richard Hammond had had this high speed crash and it wasn't known whether he would live... Thank goodness he pulled through...

#31 Hope your daughter gets on okay at the dentist, Andy.

JW & DB - I'm sure she'll be fine, but she was a bit nervous this morning, but our dentist is great and has a nice manner with the children.

I'll be glad when it's gone as she looks like a juniot Nanny McPhee at the moment, with a peg tooth right in the middle! Just in time for school photies next week!

Gloriously clear night here. I can't remember the last time the stars made me go wow; just been sitting outside with a wee drink enjoying the peace.
