I always got into the choir at school and in my last year of the Junior School I got in the choir and a main part in the school production of Oliver! but the teacher realised that this character did not sing a note and that would never do for a choir member so she made me sang 3 lines of "Be Back soon" as a soloist!! I agree with Simon about Ren Harvieu - she really does have a stunning voice. And I can also endorse his comment that she was nervous. I met her in the Ladies before the show, and she was frantically searching for a piece of paper with her words on it. I didn't know who she was then, but deduced it might be Ren Harvieu and I turned out to be right... And thank goodness she found it!

Just had a read back - hadn't realised that you aren't feeling very well, Zoe - poor you - I will keep my fingers crossed that you will be all better for your big trip tomorrow.



On the subject of choirs, I haven't sung since school, apart from in the car or the kitchen when the children aren't listening. Plucked up the courage to join a local (Gareth Malone inspired) choir last week - really really enjoyed it. Might even get to sing in a forthcoming concert which is a pretty scary prospect. It's an 'all girls' choir, everyone is very friendly, there's lots of laughter between songs and it doesn't matter if you go wrong at all. If any blogger has enjoyed singing in the past then I would definitely recommend joining a choir. An excellent way to de-stress!



I hope that whatever everyone is doing today, that there will be a smile in there somewhere. Time is precious x

Billie, glad to hear that you are now happily settled in to your new home. It's a stressful business moving house.



My baby boy is 23 today, so am feeling a little old. Strange for us, as he is usually home for his birthday. Not so this year, as he has moved to Bristol and has started his first real job since leaving University. He will be home next weekend though :-)



Mr Coddle has a few days off and we are both enjoying this lovely autumnal sunshine with a few trips here and there.

I love singing in a choir - I've been doing it on and off since I was in primary school... it really is good for the soul! And I have made some good friends through it, and been introduced to some lovely music that I would probably otherwise never have heard, let alone sung. #17 Army Dreamers by Kate Bush - inspired!



#43 one of my neighbours is using a trellis and runner beans at the front of his house to give them front room privacy - it's SO tempting not to snaffle a few on our walk to the park yesterday for the post-Sunday lunch prandial/frisbee throw.

Another neighbour has large juicy plums (steady! - where is H the S when you need him?) ripe and being picked off by the birds!

Planning a midnight raid to stock up and make plum jam, vodka, etc etc.



RE Choirs I was in one at Uni (called C.H.A.O.S for obvious reasons), it was a non-interview one, hence I got in....we did a Christmas concert (including the Coventry Carol - my favourite) and I found that it's actually very hard to sing when you are feeling emotional (ie I was welling up as we were singing it) so although I don't watch any of the singing comps (X factor etc) I have such respect for those poor kids who get up and sing in front of MILLIONS of people without the usual training that professionals get to cope with those kind of problems.



Hope to hear the show tonight, but depends on my optician letting me out - I really really REALLY hate having my eyes tested (the glaucoma test in particular) and then all the pressure to choose some frames (I try not to look at the ones which are three £££figures) - might hopefully make the last 1& 1/2 hrs anyway.

Just discussing with cherub and the minded children who they are supporting this year in Strictly Come Dancing. They are of one mind that they want the 'big lady in the blue' to win as the minded boys own her old washing maching, and cherub's aunty (my sister) owns her old car. So GO LISA RILEY !

I love singing, and belt them out every week at church. Id be in the chior but we

take with us cherub's friend and little brother who im convinced has worms and he just NEVER sits still. I asked him one week while sat on the front bench to 'whisper', to which he replied 'I DONT KNOW HOW TO WHISPER'!. So sitting with the 'singers' where there are microphones is not the best of ideas at the mo. :-)



Have recently joined the local 'am dram' group with the hope that cherub and her friend can be in the winter panto. A couple of their schoolfriends were in it last year so there in with a chance.



10 to 5 now, were on the countdown. Good luck with the menches guys n galls.

I'm not sure I do any quick fixes to make myself feel better though, my problem is more chronic I think, although I still haven't got all my test results back, especially the one regarding Coeliac's disease. Basically, sparing the gory details, everything I eat seems to upset my stomach. I'm pretty sure it isn't a bug, it's being going on for weeks now. I do take a multi vitamin with minerals and iron, and an extra vitamin C supplement everyday, so I can't be lacking... Unless my body isn't absorbing things properly...



Anyway, I've been resting up today, and keeping everything crossed that I'm well enough to travel tomorrow... And that my seat wont be too far away from the loo! ;-)

#63 Same here JBG - I've had a trio of OSMs today. It's Billie I feel sorry for though - all that effort, and not a single mensh :o(. Well done to Shona, Julia41 and PSL - and there was a word of wisdom from Hoffs too.



Really enjoyed Gareth Malone. I agree with Simon - Finlandia always makes me cry too! And weirdly, so does St Matthew Passion, although I'm not sure it's the same part as the one Gareth was talking about. I don't know what the words are, but it's also used as a hymn tune. I also completely agree with what he was saying about singing in harmony. I sing alto in my choir, and we rarely get the tune, but our part is often more interesting.

#64/65 Deebee/amelia - And I managed to get a 4th OSM for Same Old Song. Bechod! As Billie would say. And I'm sure she'll be back tomorrow with 158 more brilliant suggestions (I suspect she's find them at the bottom of all those cardboard boxes.) Talking of which, check them thoroughly before chucking them out - Mrs Good packed a large cardboard envelope full of old prints of family photos of great-grandparents and even older relatives, which she had kept but never got round to framing....unfortunately they disappeared during a move and she suspects they went out in one of the boxes. So sad.



But I digress...



I joined GoodChild#3's school choir last year as they needed parents for the carol concert, esp male voices. I thought it was just going to be a singalong, but was horrified when they dumped reams of sheet music in front of me and expected me to follow the tenor part. Luckily I was able to go home and find the same thing being sung on a video on YouTube, and GoodChild#2 is a computer whizz, and he found a programme where he keyed in the main melody and the tenor part separately, so I could learn how they went together.



Why am I telling you this? Because I need to decide by next week whether I'm doing it again this year. Decisions, decisions....

Congrats to the menschees today - not many I think. I claim an OSM for Joy bringer, which seems very feeble compared to John!

I'm always singing whilst at home much to the Coddlets disgust! I remember my Dad singing joyously all the time when I was little. He'd sing all sorts. It is a fabulous memory I carry of him, although my sisters and I banned him from singing 'Old Shep' as it would reduce us to tears in no time!

Morning all. Had no chance to join in yesterday due to 'IT issues'. My frustration was such that I could relate to Basil Fawlty beating his car with a branch - fingets crossed that all is well with it today.



What a great theme and great guest. I joined a community choir 4 years ago and LOVE it. We sing all types of music, from African to gospel, via Chattanooga Choo Choo. I don't read music myself, and learn by watching our choir leader, who is as charismatic as Gareth, and remembering his actions (I should say that he is also playing the piano at the same time as leading us). He has stretched us with Vivaldi's Gloria and Mahler's Resurrection Symphony, and we are currently learning Carmina Burana (the Old Spice advert).



So go for it again John. As Debbie said, singing is good for the soul, and what better way to spend dark winter evenings than being 'one voice' (we've done Barry Manilow too) blended with many others.

#81 JT - go to the top of the page next to the BBC logo where your name is displayed - Click on your name, then Settings and login/continue, then there should be a screen where you can change your "Display Name". And "Save". Sometimes it takes a minute or two for it to actually then change.

Well Mr JBG you are a star....thank you loads and loads for the info....all done.

I listening to Chris Evans a little earlier and how he bought that massive Donington Park Dunlop Bridge and goodness know what he's going to do with it or how he's going to move it... I've seen it when I've been to the British Superbikes and can't imagine why anyone would want to buy such a huge thing....
