Smokin'
Well good morning again bloggers, normal service resumed. Even if everyone seems to have disappeared. August eh? Yesterday's adventure by Tower Bridge was quite a treat. It's a stunning place for a wander. As our wonderful architect (wearing a boater) explained, it is a fascinating mix of the very ancient (Tower of London 1066) and the glassy, brash modern (County Hall 2002). And a splendid international venue to watch a big screen-step forward sweary Australian man with a pint in his hand (I wonder if Aussie swearing and Irish swearing doesn't count as much as normal swearing as it seem s to be part of everyday language? Maybe not).
I hope you're all enjoying the shows; I think there is real momentum behind the games now and I'm already wondering what on earth we are going to do when it's all over. Yesterday was a great day for judo, cycling and shooting and we all cheered to the rafters. I love the Matt cartoons in the Telegraph but he excels himself today. The old guy watching the tv is shouting "COME ON, whoever you are, keep doing whatever you're doing. YESSS! NO..have we won?" Which sums it up nicely.
But it is the ARF today, back in the studio for one day. It can still be an OARF but an OARF that is studio-based and teeing-up your weekend as normal. Time to crown a new (O)ARF King/Queen...your song please.
Have a knowledgeable and wise Friday, see you after 5.

Really enjoying the shows this week; I thought the architect in the boater sounded like Andrew Lloyd Webber!
I haven't been around much but I have a note from my boss!
Off to find the thinking cap (or boater) for an OARF!

PSL, Heard your mum and dad's Diamond wedding anniversary mensh yesterday. What an achievement.
LILAC BLUE, I'm glad you had a good time at the Olympic Park. We went on Monday and I was struck by the beautiful flowers too.
ANDY TOVERSON, Have a fab day at the park today.
On Monday we headed off to the Handball venue (or Copperbox as its called). I can report the following:
Public transport ran like a dream. We got on a line straight into Stratford and we all got seats.
We were part of a big flow of people walking round to the stadium but at no stage did we have to wait. It just kept flowing.
The security staff were very efficient.
The Gamesmakers are great. Very friendly without being false. Several of them made a fuss of the girls which was really kind.
The park itself is a sight to behold. A fantastic achievement in itself.
LILAC BLUE mentioned what my elderly friend calls "the facilities". They were spotlessly clean. When one attendant saw me coming along with the girls she grabbed us and took us to a large cubicle and gave it the once over with a wipe before we went in. Very kind of her.
The gardens around the grounds are absolutely spectactular. Sat eating our sandwiches next to some glorious Gladioli. ALISON OF EASTLEIGH, they made me feel even more guilty for not weeding my allotment.
The BBC centre is rather peculiar. A pile of cargo containers piled up with the studios on top.
There's "nothing quite like" the queue in a certain fast food outlet. Yes, I know you have already heard how several other outlets weren't busy but the girls, who had been so good all day, requested ice cream and it was the only place I could find selling it. 20 minute queue so not exactly fast food.
At one stage I noticed an excited crowd approaching where we were sitting have a drink and thought maybe COFFEEBUZZ was there dishing out double expressos. Turned out it was the Prime Minister making his way very quickly through the park.
Its a great place for people watching. I enjoyed trying to work out the nationalities of the people around me. Lots of great headwear. KATYMAC, Have you launched a new international line?
Right. My time is up. The girls have set up a cake shop and need a customer. I will try to get back later.
Have a good day.x

Stressed Eric has booked us (me, him + 2 stresslings) a hotel about as far away from everything as he could possibly manage so we're going to have to be up before we go to bed each day to get to the venues for security checks etc in time. And we're coming back Monday evening so will have to divert to railway station before water polo in the morning to drop off at left luggage. All too stressful.
Judo41, you said you sat eating your sandwiches in the garden - can you take your own food in then? We (stresslings included, of their own volition) don't do the golden arches or the red + white drink company or anything associated with them on principle, which is making t'Olympics quite difficult for us! We were at St James' Park for ladies football on Tuesday and the only cold drinks they had, other than alcoholic, were affiliated to the red + white company - even the bottled water! Stresslings weren't happy. No free water fountains there either.

#21 Erica, Yes, you can take your own food in, but not drinks. We bought sandwiches from the "This isn't any prawn sandwich, this is an..." shop in the nearby shopping centre.
We bought drinks from one of the food stands in the park - but 3 soft drinks and one tea cost nearly 12 quid.
You can take your own empty drinks bottles in but we didn't actually get to the fill up station because we received reports that it was extremely busy and decided not to bother.
You will see people around with backpacks full of a variety of drinks but these seemed pricey.
The food stands I noticed included curry and pasty - all good healthy British fayre!
So in summary... You can't take drinks in, you can take food in, you will be wripped off paying for drinks - but I hope you have as good a day as we did!

I felt for Rebecca Adlington's disappointment, but like she said, silver and bronze medals are not failures, especially for those who haven't done her sport!
Shona, do you ever go to see the Edinburgh Military Tattoo? We went to the opening night last night, and this year's theme is the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and it was excellent, as it always is and I took a few pics! As I had time to spare, I stopped off, camera in hand, to see the swans at St Margaret's Loch and will bore you with a few of the many pics I took!

As long as it doesn't clash with my 5,000 (or is it 10,000) race ;-)
Congrats to Ken for OARFO!
Great tales from those who have been to events. So pleased all running relatively smoothly. I may have already reported my own surprisingly easy crossing of London twice last weekend. And not a soul in a queue at passport control coming through terminal 3.
Have to admit my attention has swung towards the games from radio 2. Well, it's only every 4 years and unlikely be in our own back yard again in my lifetime. I hope the DT team are in a forgiving mood.
Will check back in as soon as I can.

Hope you have got some aftersun handy, Mo! It is chucking it down here, which makes cutting our jungle lawn pretty impossible. I'm missing the Greek sunshine already and hence, I'm here, procrastinating, instead of tackling a giant pile of ironing.
...but the 'Lympics is pretty good. I am really looking forward to Murray's match on Sunday, too, Mo.
