Salut!

Simon Mayo|08:10 UK time, Thursday, 23 August 2012

Morning or 'Hey' as we seem to say now. I think it's to do with Friends where everyone greets everybody else with 'Hey'. This seems to have replaced hello, watcha, and good morning. . It makes life simpler I suppose but feels inappropriate with the grandparents so we are keeping a more formal "How do you do grandmama, you slept well I trust?". This is followed by a frisbee in the abdomen or a tennis ball to the shoulder. We're making new traditions that's all.

We have no GCSE pressure in this house this time indeed and will be spared that until 2016. By then we might know how to handle the pressure but until then, sympathies and caffeine to stressed households. Many appeared to be up early with the parents eating cake and chocolate for fun. Chris is talking about drinking cider; we need to get back into the healthy lifestyle someday soon.

Showday with Nigel cooking something meaty and Portuguese though I forget what precisely and oldies please for PRINCE HARRY. Thought of doing VEGAS or CROWN JEWELS but it seemed simpler to stick with the man himself.

Have a satisfying and creative Thursday, se you after 5

.. and hello blog chumsters and happy Wednesdays all round.

Am loving the choon choices. Quite a few have registered highly on my *Chuckle Scale*

I've only just had the opportunity to catch up on the blog .. I went out last night without saying - a phone call halted my blogging - consequently I was running late and holding everyone up.

So apologies to my fellow conversers especially those talking about Hamish the Westie. Some fine advice indeed from those who 'know'.

And Shona. Thank you SO much. Can only echo what Sal said - a wonderful post.

From yesterday's blog: Shona - yes, I echo what Sal and Katy have said. Lovely post! Thinking of you today *hugs*

Amelia - and others - thanks for enquiring about my daughter's work experience. It's going very well, although she is very tired and having to revise when she gets home in the evenings, as she has an exam next Tuesday.

I had an email yesterday asking me to take part in a TV documentary! The researcher had read a blog that I wrote ages ago about our experiences in Romania. I said no, mainly because I didn't want to expose our son (who it would mostly be about) to the publicity but also because I'm a shy, retiring type in 'real life' and don't really fancy the idea of being on TV... Nice to be asked though, and nice of her to read my blog too!

Mayo Man - Yes the english language most interesting but also confusing at times!!!!!!!

A would noot say what yerv said about... A would say 'ey instead without an aych... or 'ello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for "good morning' a would say that either.... a would say "aroooon-sa-was!!!!"

Which is "good morning" in thai!!!!!!!!!!!

Of which can a say ter both yersen and all bloggies:

    "arooooooooooon-sa-was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Ter any blogger who say they 'ave trouble reading me blogs.... The simple way ter be able ter read them is imagine 'demeted scouse' a sort of cross between John bishop & Paul O'Grady and Bingo Star is EXACTLY in the middle (but not talent wise or pay wise).... Oh and errrrrrr also in most cases when yer see a " ' " at the start of a word just knock in an aych where a 'ave (there's one) (actually there's two there if yer include the one in there's... But this is a case where yer don't put in an aych as the " ' " in there's is instead of a " i " noot aych!!!!) (aka there is)

'ope this 'elps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (know, sorry now there is two and without one in there's)

    Any way where was a?????????

    Oh I yeah:

Terdee is DEE 11 of Bingo Star's Quest Ter Become An Olympic Track Cyclist Champion:

Ave been riding both to work and back whereas before a used ter take me cycle on the train going ter work and cycle just the one way back!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reason it was too 'ard work and arriving at work very sweaty a couldn't cool down... And the traffic is busier than late in the evening when a finish work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And a only did it about 3 times a week... sometimes less just ter keep a reasonable fitness up and save abitta fuel in me car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But now everyday evening if it's raining ave gotta do it as a starter terwards Rio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (A don't mean am cycing ter Rio.... Only ter work!!!!!)

This week ave cycled 5 times and ter be 'onest me legs feel like they 'ave no energy left... They feel week and VERY tired!!!!!!!!!!!!

But pain is nothing if am serious about doing hwatta wanter try and do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

A know a probably will never get ter the olympics.... If anything it's madness..... But if yer don't try yer don't get!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatta will get out of it for sure if a keep it up is an excellent fitness... Lose me slight extra flab am carrying with me.... And a as a turn forty next year it will set me up for me forties as a man of magnitude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ave also downloaded a BRILLIANT app onter me mobile phone that a pal at work told me about.... It tracks by GPS yer exact moves while cycling... Yer speed... Average and the change in altitude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A will tell more in me next blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for now gotta go... Gotta sort out some prioblems all:

Shona, hope you are coping with the significant date. My old man would have been 70 this weekend - casts a bit of a gloom over every August Bank Holiday weekend - so I can sort of empathise with you.

All the best for the rest of your day.

#88 Exercise bikes are the spawn of the devil. But I have got one of those Fluid Elastogel turbo trainers in my garage that I can just hook the bike on to and do some spinning if the weather outside is nasty. Intending to get plenty of miles in on that during the winter.

This app you've got Bingo, Strava?

Hello again - late lunch break. Today is shaping up to be a good day ..

Best of luck/health to Jennie and Sallie on hospital visits today.

And Bin ... Ant - I laughed OUT LOUD at your suggestion for The Stones' Little Red Rooster.

Deebee - re. documentary - no comparison but think I'd be the same. [Would love to know how Z and Mr might handle a similar situation]

Shona - a fortnight's time sees a significant anniversary of my Dad's passing - his funeral was on 'Black Wednesday' - which doesn't seem that long ago

[from Wiki: Black Wednesday ... the events of 16 September 1992 when the British Conservative government was forced to withdraw the £ sterling from the ERM after they were unable to keep it above its agreed lower limit.]

Twenty flippin' years! That's more than a third of my life

Not sure why I'm so late on here today but in case of late construction I suggest (without reading back):

#92 - Ken - Thanks for the tip!!!!!

Am new to serious cycling.... A cycled all me childhood and used ter do a 45 minute powerblast (now terdo with baked beans) along the promenade on The Wirral on me mountain bike when a was in me 20's. Used ter go everyday!!!!!

Watching the Olympics 'as inzpired me/ lighted an Olympic flame inside me mind!!!!!!

Am reading alot on the net/ leaning fast.

A need a racing bike and a will get one of those rolling road rigs!!!!!!!!

Much better ter use yer own bike indoors than sitting on a sweaty stinky excercise bike at the gym.

As a was put off by smelly excercise bikes, more recently a started using steppers. Only problem a end up going mad on the stepper at the gym... A can't do slow.... A try but me legs get carried away!!!!!!!!

Nearly the machine is smoking and fellow gymians are staring at me like i'm a NUTTER!!!!!!

Ken thanks a will buy a rig... 'ow much are they??????@?

#91 Thank you Sir Cumfy. I've not really been feeling down today - but it did kind of hit me a bit this morning.

#95 Bin And Ant - from not being able to read your posts too well in the past, I absolutely burst out laughing at the image of you on the stepper. Very funny indeed.

Don't know about you lot but I am definitely noticing the absence of some notable blog regulars ... Jilly, Flo, AlexG, Mo, LadyStorm, Perfectcircle, JohnB, Alison, Gail .. to name but a few.

[PSL, Hoffs and Tortie I know are on holidays and Harry, of the Snapper and not Royal species, is taking a blog break]

Hopefully just an August thing for most of them and they will be back soon? Not the same without them.
