Today - Day 39 - sees the 'lympic torch carried from Sheffield to Cleethorpes on the Lincolnshire coast. It will pass through Rotherham, Doncaster, Scunthorpe and Grimsby amongst other towns and villages.

Its Day 2 in the Lurgy-Household. One patient despatched back to school this morning. One left lurking on the sofa. The sporty one who is never ill. Doc diagnosed 'hayfever-dehydration-headache-post-exam-knackeredness-and-general-pants-feeling' and prescribed lots of rest, fluid and general TLC. I think thats probably within the bounds of my nursing capabilities. Harry Potter DVD marathon postponed from yesterday will begin at 11am sharp if anyone wants to join us....



As for World Sports Day, that's on Friday for me. New school, so not sure if there's a parents race, but if so, the day would would go in song titles like this:

Morning all !!! Glad your on the mend Simon, I recommend dry toast and boiled water sipped at regular intivals.



Cherub had her sports day yesterday afternoon. The children came out to the music 'Chariots of fire' waiving flags of the nations and carrying pretend olympic torches. It was lovely to see, and we were blessed with warm sunshine for the occasion.



She was in the relay race and the egg and spoon race, for which she had been practicing all weekend, wandering around the house with her desert spoon filled with various items. She battled valliently for last place, and in the end won that coverted spot. As for the relay race... Well, her shoe 'flew' off as she neared the line sending her tumbleing. No injurys aquired thankfully and she had a smile on her face throughout.



This being the case however id like to 2nd (3rd, 4th)

In other news, the lady who won popmaster today, runs her own business making Gluten Free cakes! I was 'egging' her on to win. (see what I did there?)

My first was in Nov 2010, then a break to Feb 2011, then a bigger break to the time I started posting 'proper' in March 2012.



I'm calling the 2012 posts my start date because the others were sporadic and non-communicative.

#29 Hoffs... re not drinking enough fluid/headaches.... a friend of mine hated having to use public/other loos if we were out shopping for several hours so consequently she wouldn't drink anything for the time we were out or before she left home and would always arrive home with a headache and she realised that was the only times she had headaches and realised that lack of drinking was the cause and unless she took tablets, her headache would take a long time to go.



I think water has other benefits too several years ago, our local schools (probably all schools) started to provide drinking water to allow the children to drink at their desks because it keeps them hydrated and helps them to concentrate and keep them alert.



I try to make sure I drink about five or six glasses of water every day and also drink four or five cups of tea and the occasional coffee and I don't get headaches.

#35 Thanks Paul, but distance-wise I'm actually closer to Rotherham (although address-wise I am also 'of Sheffield') The Olympic torch passed through Rotherham bright and early this morning, so really I should have passed the torch on to you :)



I hope ill blogpoppets, and our dear leader, are all feeling a bit better. I'm not feeling so sprightly myself today, just got a headache. I doubt it's dehydration related, because I drink loads of water, in fact I drink hardly anything else but water. I've never liked tea, and don't care for coffee either, and a few months ago I kicked all the energy drinks and all other caffeinated drinks, into touch. I feel so much better for giving up the caffeine, it wasn't doing me any favours. I was knocking back the energy drinks like nobody's business, in an effort to overcome my constant tiredness, but they were working against me (making me jittery, not sleeping, dehydrating me etc) I find drinking regular glasses of water to be far more effective at keeping me going (in all senses of the word!) :D



I think I've lost the choon chasing bug :-/ Too late now anyway.

Health news - woke up early feeling v. sick and dizzy (had the whirling pits as we used to say when too much falling down water had been consumed!) which got no better as time went on and a decision had to be made re appointments so I had to cancel (now next Tuesday). Slept in and feel bit better now but Mr is being an excellent Florence Nightingale.

Re Sports Day - when I was teaching, we used to have a split sports day - infants usual stuff - egg and spoon, sack race etc and the juniors did a round robin of activities and points were awarded to teams so one team won rather than individuals.



We used to have a fathers race too but it got quite dangerous with the speeds they ran at - some even went into training weeks before the race! So we made their race a novelty race of some description like running backwards - funny how many dads didn't want to join in then!

#55 LOL! That made me chuckle. Puts me in mind of the first time I left the children solely in the care of Mr B overnight while I was away on a course, and he gave them juice with their tea instead of milk (which I always gave them). Daughter must have been about 4 at the time - she put her hands on her hips and adopting a most parent-like tone said "Daddy, you are doing it all wrong!"

Reading about things children say, reminds me of when my son was in his last few weeks of playgroup and was going to be starting school after the holidays, at four and a half years of age and an elderly lady across the road, when we lived in Largs, had always made a fuss of him (probably the long blonde curls he always had until getting them cut off for starting school) and when it was his sister's birthday Mrs McDonald gave her a birthday card with a £5 note in it.



So that her brother didn't feel left out, she left an envelope with £1 inside for him so when he came in from playgroup, I told him to run across and thank her for the money. He said "It's not worth it for £1, but if if it was £5 I would!" Mrs McDonald thought it was funny for a young child to come out with that... but he's always been 'honest' and one Christmas when he was about five years old, another neighbour had bought him a transformer toy that turned into a robot and it had broken before lunchtime and unknown to us he had gone and knocked on her door and told her it was rubbish... she thought he was funny too!!!

I can remember making my mother blush when we were buying shoes for starting school.

I was getting bored, having tried on what seemed like endless pairs of shoes. The shop assistant was taking each new pair from the box, threading the laces into the shoes and fitting them to my feet.

I identified a flaw in the system and suggested that she could save my time by coming in to work earlier to lace up the shoes in advance.



The shop assistant shot my mother a killer look and my mother, in turn, shot me a 'just you wait till we get home' look.



We bought shoes from another shop. :P

My youngest, at her 3 and a half-year progress check with the family doctor - - - - he held up some colour cards and with a withering glance followed by a very adult sigh, said: " I don't DO colours. And before you ask - I don't DO numbers either"

I remember exchanging a "where the dickens did THAT come from!?" glance with him.

Had terrific medical appointments today, healing slowly and do well said the plastic surgeon and the best from Mrs. oncologist, no chemo and radiotherapy necessary for my ancillary treatment! I'm very, very grateful and what a light-filled shift to life. :)

I have been watching Andy Murray's tennis game on the television so I have had Drivetime on quietly in the background and caught menshes for Ponyclubmum and Hoffs, so well done both. When I heard Level 42's Running in the Family I felt sure Deebee's name would have been mentioned, seeing as she's clearly a big fan!

I can't even remember calling to make the appointment which was a reschedule from a couple of weeks ago as I couldn't get through due to Olympic Torch.

I'm off to a graduation tomorrow to support all from the Shire we have funded through a Post Grad. A day out really with a strawberry tart thrown in :)

Morning! Just a quick visit as I didn't manage to get back here last night to say 'thank you' very much to the Drivetime team for picking my name for a mention and to Deebee for alerting me to it. Unfortunately I missed it 'live' because Mini Hoffs needed an early night so only managed to listen up until the end of the wonderful session with Glenn Frey. I had to listen back to that section of the show twice last night and hope to do so again today. For me there aren't enough words to describe just how enjoyable it was listening to him and I am smiling as I type about how obviously Simon felt the same way as so many of us out here! Certain Eagles songs have always been the familiar ones to which I have returned time and again over the years and never tire of hearing so 'Take It to the Limit' in such a simple form was fab.



Great children's sayings and stories on this blog - made me chuckle a lot. Congrats to Gill's cherub for her sports day achievements and hope that Julia's pre-school sports day went well too. LilacBlue, your post stood out a mile for its positive news, I am so pleased for you. I hope you continue to feel better by the day.
