Gig week, so of course I have the worst cough going. Apologies in advance to anybody at Under the Bridge on Wednesday night if it hasn't improved by then. I promise I'll try to hold the coughing to between songs as much as possible. Need a medicinal Pimms, or maybe half a dozen of them, but not really appropriate sitting here at my desk.



Can't think of an appropriate song to go with today's topic. That might be because the brain's not functioning though. Oh well, have a good day all.

The post has just arrived and mapped out my day for me - well a good portion of it I suppose. Last week I spent ages on the phone to our gas supplier who wanted to increase our monthly payments by 50%!!!!! Never has my flabber been so ghasted so I finally sorted out a more amenable arrangement and asked for the new payment to be confirmed by letter. Today I receive a letter confirming they have dropped our electricity payments!! Why is so difficult to do anything which seems fairly simple....................off to the phone...............wish me luck, I may be sometime..............

Haven't mentioned this before - but due to pervading nature of blogchat this fine Monday --

Today have just today completed a massive dose of 2 kinds of antibiotics which is the current treatment for CAP [community acquired pneumonia]



Hospital MAU weekend before last - it's very common at the moment. Not a sign of a cold, or cough or chestiness before it struck. Never has my knocker been so discom-erated!

Better now, just a bit weak. Have been out three times as long as I get a door to door lift.

It really is not as hurty as proper flu.



Tangentially - my OH gets a bit annoyed that he grinds through the weeks sometimes with a whole batch of non-specific aches and pains and the doctors never really sort it. I get ill just occasionally and get a diagnosis of a proper named illness straight away. Go figure.



Is HYPOCHONDRIA purely a male preserve?

Nurse Nightingale... is your first name Florence?



Katy, talking of pigeons...... We still have constant visits from 'Woody' the pigeon I rescued as an injured baby last year and kept for five weeks until his wounds had healed and was strong enough to fly. He has been in our garden to feed, every day since, so he maybe looks upon our garden as his home territory.

Just now when I was walking the dogs along the edge of the wheat field across from our house, the skylarks were singing their little hearts out, but they were so high overhead that I couldn't see them and wonder just how high do they fly?



When I hear the birds singing away quite happily, I feel all's well in the world.

I've no idea if all pigeons are 'homing pigeons' but I guess Woody knows he was well fed here and he still loves thawed out peas and sweetcorn that he ate as a baby.

#78 Aww Jennie - never thought of you being wrapped up in your own life AT ALL - quite the opposite.



Am feeling absolutely fine - still under doc's orders for a couple more days, then another chest xray in 2 weeks. Should I admit to lying in bed all this morning - cup of tea, toast, rolling TV news in background, laptop on .. lap ... but very little work being done?!



From earlier - when I potted out my tomatoes, peppers, chillis and dwarf beans - I kept one of each for my very large kitchen window ledge - just as a fun comparison.

I have looked after them well as I always seem to be at the kitchen sink.

Anyway, have just harvested about 20 perfect dwarf beans from the windowledge plant. Hothousing, they call it.

And on the subject of pigeons, we had a racing pigeon in our garden a few years back. She was exhausted apparently and had just landed for a feed and a rest - looked it up on t'internet - so we fed and watered her and she left about 3 days later.

We phoned her 'owner', who lived locally, but he wasn't interested in coming to fetch her - wanted us to catch her and take her home! "I think not" or words to that effect, said Mr!



She was christened Penelope Pitstop.

#83 - Your windowsill garden sounds great Katy. I was talking to my neighbour earlier and we were saying how slow everything is this year. There is not enough sun and continuous warmth for the plants to really get going and the slugs and snails are having a field day......................



Perhaps we'll get an Indian summer and everything will have been able to catch up by then. We live in hope!

According to wikiwotsit, the male is more vinaceous ("chiefly technical of the colour of red wine") and less grey than the female, but they have to be the same age and compared in the same season. Tis very difficult apparently. As I said before, it's a good job they know!!

Had a mixed few days so not had chance to get on, Friday was my Brother-in-law's funeral, Saturday was a day spent dodging the rain trying to play cricket and yesterday we went to watch the torch as it passed through Brighouse, which was more exciting and emotional than I thought it would be.



This is an exciting place to be though with the DTD suffering amongst others from various lurgies and then onto Pigeon sexing!

#91 Jennie... this is Woody from just after he had left home (he's never left properly) but from when he started fending for himself a bit more and he would often come back and sit in the ivy on our garden wall, sunning himself! He does have some 'reddishness' on his breast, so may be a male!
