Sounds Good To Me
Need to check how the new cricket season is progressing; it's the first test match of the season very soon but boy that sounds optimistic. Chris has been talking about how much snow is falling, here we are just finishing off our ark. The Jubilee anoraks and Union Jack thermals will be this year's must have items.
Off to the Sony's yesterday for an evening of toasting the success of radio grandees like Nicholas Parsons, Jools Holland, Chris Evans, Danny Baker and the 5 Live team of Peter Allen and Aasmah Mir (though can't remember when they're on). An absence of success this time for your Drivetime host and Mark Kermode but we renounce trinkets and baubles when we don't win. And like them when we do. Best part of the evening was sitting next to Ronnie Wood! And good company he was too. He won a silver Sony and seemed genuinely thrilled. I would have thought, with all those millions of record sales and awards, that a radio gong wouldn't count for much. Not so, he was chuffed to bits. Would have loved a gold but the silver was appreciated.
And today we welcome the wonderful Felicity Kendal to DT. Millions fell in love with her in The Good Life with Richard Briers she launched her acting career in India where her parents ran a touring theatre company. She has a new documentary Felicity Kendal's Indian Shakespeare Quest on BBC2 this Wednesday and you can hear her tonight after 6, but let's do FELICITY KENDAL oldies all day. You know you want to.
Have an elegant and well-turned out Tuesday, see you after 5

Anyway, I've had quite a lot of menshes lately and as Billie rightly said - they are increasingly difficult to come by. As we mostly go for the same songs - it only seems fair to step back once in a while. There was once a time when such blog 'etiquette' was a given. Might be reassuring to see a return to those days?
Glad the 'list' was enjoyed. No need for individual thanks, m'blog chumsters. All included were the ones who actually posted in THAT blog - so no favours were given. I was quite concerned about leaving someone out.
It also focussed my mind on some of the regulars who were 'missing' on the day itself - like AlexG, VikingMo, PoshSoulLady, TortieCat, Jilly, LadyStorm, Ponyclubmum, MrsBoris, Andy Toverson, Malcolm Yeates, The Driver, Alan, Malcolm Powder ... and Glenn - where's Glenn gorn then? Devon?

Commiserations, Mr Mayo, but don't worry, we know that you know that we know that your and Dr Kermode's show is the best of its kind. Simple! (Erm, did you get to meet Betty and Beryl by the way?)
Also, didn't see Blockbusters last night - will miss it tonight as well but tomorrow is shaping up nicely for a three-episode-and-ironing-marathon...
68 - Gill-Withagee - thanks for the advice - I'm so excited about the prospect of such a day that I can't decide what to do and might end up rushing around and wasting precious time.
Righto, off to get stuff together for a barbeque and swimming party to which the Hoffs family have been invited tonight. Can anyone lend me a thermal bathing suit please? One of those Victorian style jobs would be perfect...

#67 A day out in London sounds very exciting! As Gill says, museums are good - also (I've said this to you elsewhere but I'll repeat it for the benefit of others) whenever I get the chance I like to go to Harrods. I can't afford to actually buy anything there, but I just think it's such a fascinating shop. And if the weather is good, maybe you could take one of those open top bus rides. And there's always the parks... actually, I don't think one day is going to be enough for you to fit it all in!

I totally agree with you about holding back on the mensh chasing once in a while. If I'd actually had a mensh recently, I'd be doing it myself... ;o) Seriously though, I find it quite refreshing sometimes to listen to the show without that added frisson of 'will one of my suggestions get chosen?' 'will it be me who gets the mensh?'
#72 Hoffs again, a barbecue and swimming party? In this weather? We had hailstones here earlier... I hope for your sake the pool is heated. Have a great time, anyway.

I did her see play the role of a boy in a farce, alongside Michael Kitchen, at the National Theatre, some years ago. Tom Stoppard adapted it from a work of foreign origins.

I think the Mayo/Kermode R5 film prog is in the wrong category.
Surely when Dr K launches into one of his rants agin (deliberate sp) a film (or just 3D in particular) it is real kitchen-sink drama, so should be up against say R4's plays??!
Anyway, Sony's, Shmoney's, who needs 'em?
Just another thing to polish..

But your re-interpretation, startling in its audacity, asks us all to look again; begs for a reassessment of what is required at the end of any sentence. That lone fullstop, that isolated period, symbolic of the alienation typical in 21st century Britain. Saying so much, by saying so little, exemplifies the sexual ambiguities inherent in these post-postmodernist times. It cries out for a new aesthetic; a new brevity. And succeeds.

#69 Katy - Glad to hear that all seemed well with your MRI scan :)
On mensh chasing - I agree with Deebee, that the show is often more enjoyable when you aren't listening out for menshes, and just enjoying the music that is played. I do like the challenge of thinking up songs to fit the themes though, I think the thrill is more in the chase, than in winning the prize, so to speak. That being said, a mensh from Simon does make me smile, and it is especially gratifying if you are the only one to think of that song. (The sought after solo mensh - lol) Anyway, I haven't had a mensh for over 3 weeks anyway, so no danger of overdoing it there. It is a shame though, for the newbies, and rare menshees, that it seems to be the usual suspects who get menshed day after day.
On Blockbusters - I watched the first episode last night, I thought the set looked great and Simon was great, but... It's just my opinion, and personal preference, but I think the show worked better in a teatime slot with only student age contestants. The questions aren't exactly all that taxing, and the art to it all is who is fastest on the buzzer, not necessarily intellect. Still, it's diverting enough easy entertainment for half-an-hour. *Waits for Deebee's rebuttal* ;-)
Another confession - The mentions today of 'Rear of the Year', take me back to 2007, when I was part of a fandom that successfully mounted an Internet campaign, to secure the object of our affections, the 'Male Rear of the Year' award. (Oh, the shame!) I see the website is taking nominations for the 2012 title, I would nominate Simon, but as he rather makes his living sitting on his rear, I can't say whether the goods are up to snuff... Calling Deebee, again ;-D
