Like JBG we are great believers in gas barbeques. Mr from Eastleigh is an incredibly patient cook, who turns, turns, turns whatever's cooking so that it's not charred, and cooked all the way through. Culinary highlight of the weekend was par-boiled sweet potato and asparagus finished on the BBQ - yummy. Another plus is all year round availability - snow doesn't stop us.

I am glad the injection administering went well Shona.



I was at a friend s BBQ on Saturday before we retired indoors for the Eurovision action.....her other half took charge of the BBQ as it is a mans domain! I had a couple of ribs, chicken. hot dog and a burger and was stuffed!



Thought I would miss blog action this week as I thought I would be at a clients in Banbury but that is next week ..good job as my little bumper car is serviced at the weekend!!!

Monday thought: If the Eurovision was a sporting contest I think the Beeb would be hauled over the coals by now for the persistent spending of money with zero success. Funded sports are held to account for the public money they spend if the performance isn't there. How come the BBC can commit this money each year to a contest and keep performing so miserably with no accountability?



Time to get out I think. Transmit it if they must (I assume it's essentially free to broadcast for all Eurovision members and I know some people like it so I have no complaints about showing it) but spending money year after year to send someone to come close to last seems like lunacy when much loved local radio programmes are due to be scrapped and the Beeb has virtually no sport left of any consequence because it's skint.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE? - The Searchers or Joan Baez or Peter Paul & Mary

We have a gas barbecue. You get a lot more control over the temperature - there is absolutely no reason why barbecued food needs to be burnt in order to be cooked through properly! We had steaks on Saturday, and they were lovely - Mr B even managed to incorporate our different requirements as to the steaks' pinkness or otherwise. And I agree with Billie about the shop-bought barbecue sauces, but you can make your own marinade really easily.



One of my pet hates though is referring to barbecues as BBQ... it would make sense if the word was spelled barbeque...and why does it have to be in capitals anyway...?

I'm wondering how people approach a new blog in the morning (or afternoon, if that is your first visit of the day)? My technique is to scan quickly through to learn the theme - if I haven't already got it from Twitter - post my suggestions and then come back and have a proper read of Simon's post (plus any others who've posted in the mean time). And I also look back to the previous day's blog as there are usually a few early risers who've posted there. So I hope my first post of the day doesn't sound rude or abrupt - I do at least say good morning!

#52 Deebee - I tend to read Simon's blog and then, depending on time either read through a few posts or skim through a lot before adding something of my own. If I'm later and there's lots of posts, I'll then go back and read through more carefully. Before Simon posts, I usually have a chance to read through the back-end of the previous day's blog and morning posts.



I try not to replicate too many oldies from previous posts, although that's hard with some themes.



Depending on work, teaching and assorted, unanticipated emergencies, I then try to keep reasonably up to date with the blog throughout the day, even if I'm not actually posting.

A bit quiet around here today. I shall take the opportunity to drop a few bits off for Katy, who I think might appreciate them.

Afternoon all,

A trifle late to the blog, a funeral to attend in a sleepy cotswold village kept me away from any reasonable signal today (bliss to some, no doubt)

Just wanted to let you all know that child #2, son and heir completed the 26.2 mile Edinburgh marathon, in 3.47.10 - a stunning time in temps of 25 degrees. His Auntie and her hubby who ran too were physically sick due to the heat - but STILL completed the run. Big respect to them all, but running in heat? Our caveman ancestors would be laughing all the way back into the cave!!.....



Looking forward to the rumoured lower temps tomorrow and even thunderstorms, as long as I'm not riding my bicycle (feels a queen song coming on)



Time to go, need to paddle in the very cold water in our paddling pool (officially filled for the grandson) see you all tomorrow for another fun day in blogland

Suzieeee, congratulations to your son for completing the Edinburgh marathon yesterday in such hot weatherand I'm not surprised at his Auntie and her husband for being sick as it must have been awful and easy to have become dehydrated, especially with being sick!

Just a quick pop in before Game of Thrones, then off to bed.



Me and the mister had a lovely trip out today to Spurn Point https://www.spurnpoint.com/ It was just the ticket, and a much needed pick-me-up. We had a nice walk along on the beach, and in the sea, but we were being very vigilant for the Brown Tailed Moth Caterpillars that are out there in great numbers. They are poisonous, apparently, and there are quite a few warning signs up https://www.wildlifeextra.com/go/news/spurn-caterpillars.html It was a lovely day for it though, and fortunately I had coated myself in factor 50 beforehand.



We stopped for dinner first, in Withernsea. No offence to Withernsea dwellers, but it was a bit like the seaside town that time (and tourists) forgot. We ate in a cafe that advertised itself 'As seen on TV', but in which programme I dare not to speculate... They did have a parrot though! (not on the menu)



I was shocked to get a mensh for Killer Queen, as I only had time to tweet 2 song suggestions before we hit the road (the other 'I got stung' by Elvis Presley was also played) Unfortunately I didn't hear the mensh myself, as I was 'caught short' and had to avail myself of a service station toilet (much cleaner than expected!) but the mister heard it, and I listened again when I got home.



Well done to everyone else who got a mensh :)



Deebee & others - I always read Simon's blog first, before I launch into the song suggestions, but I don't always comment on what he's said until later. On that note, I fancied a BBQ all weekend, but we don't have one, and it'd be too hazardous with the twins anyway. I'll just have to settle for eating burnt offerings from the cooker instead (no change there then!) ;-)



I may miss the mensh chasing in the morning, because the twins are at respite tonight, and it's my one chance to sleep past the early hours of the morning. I'll hopefully get chance for a quick natter before they come back from school though.

On Simon's blogs....as soon as I get a look in at the moment, I tend to read the blog as fast as I can, skim through my little song book (a hard copy of an mp3 player~) then post.



If I only get a look-see at lunchtimes when I get home, then I try to scan quickly through the posts before I post what I know are useless song choices after reading the very clever ones from all of you ;))

How rude of me. Forgot to congratulate all who got a menshe, Jilly Dougal, Zoe others ? sorry only heard bits and for Suzieee's offspring running in Edinburgh.
