Weather hasn't made it's mind up here either. Brother arrives this evening to take over the nursing duties, and we'll be going home tomorrow. It's a slow recovery process but every day we see a little improvement, and as our sailing partner rather bluntly put it, she's a tough old bird!



One of the pluses of being at Mum's this week is that I've been able to read Itch in 3 days. I absolutely loved it! A great adventure story, nail-biting in places and extremely well written. Don't want to appear too sycophantic though - actually, I would have really enjoyed it even if it hadn't been written by our leader. Although in truth I don't know if I would have picked it up in the first place as it's not the kind of book I normally read. I'll be recommending it to my 11 year old nephew, also our Brainy friends' younger daughter who's 14 and a real book-worm.



No ARFO suggestion from me as I probably won't hear the show. Good luck to everyone else - some cracking suggestions above. Let's hope we can regain the crown this week.

Weather is really undecided here. I wanted to get some planting done but CBA to go outside!! Even Rosie has come in and gone to bed (with my cuddly dog). I looked on the local cat rescue site the other evening and they have a 6 year old black and white Tom called Paxo. He loves other cats. Sounds perfect. A visit might be in order.

Deebee, pleased your mum is feeling a little better each day and glad you enjoyed reading Simon's book. I bought it for my husband's K*ndle but he's not read it yet.

Completely confugled by the Racing Post. Lovely husband at the races today for a farewell for a colleague. Jezza played that Marcus Whatsit's version of "Seven Nation Army" earlier. I loved the original but found myself really enjoying this new version. Firstly, it is really refreshing to hear a cover version that isn't an exact replica of the original and secondly, the fact that it has been "funked up" shows what a fundamentally excellent tune it is. Not sure if that makes sense but I know what I mean!

Harry and Shona, as a fellow lover of folk and a bit of country (as well as pop), when I was but a young thing, my aunt and uncle owned a pub a few minutes from our house and I used to help out at the weekends.



I'll never forget one night back in the 70s, a couple who had recently moved near us, and were pub regulars, brought in their friend who had come to stay for the weekend as he was playing at a folk club in Taunton, which was only about 15 minutes away and he had his guitar in the car and as soon as my uncle knew that, he encouraged him to fetch it in.



He started to play his guitar and sing Gordon Lightfoot's song, 'If You Could Read My Mind', followed by 'The Streets of London' and the place went quiet as he had the most beautiful voice and his name was Jack Hudson and I don't know if anyone on here amongst the folk-lovers have ever heard of him or seen him.



I had a look on YouTube and found this song, 'Hammer and Nails' which I'm sure he will have written himself... and a couple more and it would be nice to know if Jack Hudson is still entertaining people with his lovely voice and relaxed style.
