A Lord is with us
Well a mild and cloudy day on the (much neglected) estate, school run finished and coffee waiting. Trust all bloggers are raring to go-have postings eased off while I have been moonlighting? Am I responsible? Guilty of neglect your honour...search parties need to be sent out to round up the stragglers.
Really enjoying being back on and Larry Lamb was fun yesterday. Still fascinated that he should have felt a wanderer and a performer without knowing anything about his history. What's the biology there? Can your family traditions really be passed on when you have no idea what those traditions are? We use DNA as a shorthand for what someone's instincts are but I wonder if that is the truth of it. I'm sure there are some bloggers out there who know the truth. Step forward and be counted...
Watched some of the Brits last night and while there's been a lot of fuss about Adele being cut off (why not just let the news be late? News at 10.15 would have been fine) I thought the real shame was the perfunctory mentions of Whitney and Amy Winehouse. If that was all they could do, maybe they shouldn't have bothered.
Today we welcome back Melvyn Brag to Drivetime. He is without doubt one of the great broadcasters in this country and I find him compulsive listening, even if I have no idea what he is talking about. He has a new series on Class and Culture on BBC2 this week. Melvyn thinks we are freer, more tolerant and less snobbish than we used to be-he will explain more tonight.
And oldies? Well to follow on from pancakes yesterday, we should do LENT songs today- GIVING UP STUFF. Chris and Vassos have been discussing GIVING UP STUFF for Lent and I have decided to give up smoking, eating beetroot and reading German poetry. It'll be tough but I'll get through it. Also then NOT GIVING UP should feature in the mix somewhere.
Have a cultured and classy Wednesday, see you after 5

If my memory serves me well, we did this Pancake Day – Lent combo theme last year too. History repeating itself? Or just running a bit low on ideas??

Simon - Unless any bloggers have given up blogging for lent, I think the likely explanation for the lower post count in the gremlins in the system. It no use giving up something that you could happily do without anyway, that is surely not in the spirit of Jesus's 40 days and nights in the wilderness.
On Larry Lamb & Who Do You Think You Are - I really enjoyed the interview last night, and researching one's genealogy can be a very interesting voyage of discovery. When it comes to whether our biology has been affected by what our ancestors professions/lifestyles etc were, the mister reminded me of the work of Doctor Rupert Sheldrake https://www.sheldrake.org/homepage.html It may seem a bit 'out there', but Dr Sheldrake came up with a theory based on something he called 'Morphic Fields' and 'Morphic Resonance', which is a bit complicated to explain, but basically boils down to a kind of telepathic link between a particular species. I haven't explained it very well, but here's an extract, with a link to a full explanation, for those interested...
"Habits are subject to natural selection; and the more often they are repeated, the more probable they become, other things being equal. Animals inherit the successful habits of their species as instincts. We inherit bodily, emotional, mental and cultural habits, including the habits of our languages."
https://www.sheldrake.org/Articles&Papers/papers/morphic/morphic_intro.html
Now to catch up with today's blogging activity... I'll be back (if I haven't bored everyone into a stupor, that is!)

#33 Sal, Sorry to hear about your gluten issue.
#41 Update on Jennie's Essex weather bulletin - it's now tipping it down - just in time for school run.
#55 Hoffs, Was wondering how your SF was doing. Sending positives thoughts his way.
#58 Dougal, get well soon.
#63 Gazza, DON'T.
#65 Hoffs again, LOL!
#69 Jilly, a 3 worder back to you: Hello my lovely!
#72 Zoe, You are spot on when you say parents are the real experts. The experts spend years studying their area of expertise - but have they actually experienced the reality first hand on a 24 hour, 7 days a week, 12 months a year basis? Quite probably not. You know what is right for your lovely boys.x
Must dash.

I have requested a recipe for Danish pastries as that's the only thing the special needs counters at our national supermarkets lack- generally these products ready made are not too pricey but I now make my own bread with said flours as they last longer, slice when needed and much tastier.... as for DNA bipassing the next generation I still can't do maths/physics nor dressing-making (not simultaneously) despite my ancestry. Breaking news: I've given up ironing for lent, should be filed under 'extreme sports'.

#33 Sal - I have looked into a gluten free diet in the past, for my twins, and I know of a good blog with gluten free recipes and advice, here is the link https://3xgf.blogspot.com/ I've posted it on here before, as I think other bloggers have gluten issues too (maybe Gill with a G, and I'm sure there are others too)
#55 & #65 Hoffs - All the best to your Step-Father, and all your family. I hope that he will go from strength to strength from here on in. You'll be missed on here, so don't stay away too long :)
#58 Dougal - Get well soon x
#69 Jilly - Aww, sorry to hear that you've been struck down by the nasty vomiting bug :( There seems to be a lot of it about at the moment. Hope you're soon back to normal x
Shona - (from yestrday's blog) You probably won't see this, but hope you have a nice time with your guests :)
The trouble with doing these catch-up posts, is that you always feel like you've missed folk out, and things you meant to comment on...

No chance of buying anything round here - although he has got a nest egg from his dad's estate, he doesn't want to invest in anything to 'tie him down' as he said.
I had the green box too, but found clicking the 'refresh' button got rid of it.
Simon, I'm sure we're all still here, just lurking - in my case I normally Tweet so I can get on and work.
I have looked at the FB suggestions - but apart from us that put up there, the quality and depth of choice is just not the same as on this ere blog IMHO!
I tweeted HOT HOUSE FLOWERS too,#25 Harry and like the #39 KD LANG option of CONSTANT CRAVING - see, clever and a good song!
Have a nice evening all, I was supposed to be out drinking with a buddy while Mr e is in Belgium, but have lost my handbag (in the house somewhere I HOPE) so off home where the soon-departing son *lip trembles* has offered to stump up for a Thai take-away which he's picking up on his way home.
For lent I am giving up black olives, meths and wearing my thermal vest (1st day today and so far...it's going ok, thanks for asking)

I already went through January without alcohol (easy, as I rarely drink these days anyway) and chocolate (far more difficult, but easier than I thought it would be) so I'm not giving either up for Lent.
Being such a puritan and therefore relatively vice free (my story - sticking to it), after much deliberation I'm going to give up NOT going to the gym. I joined in December and, having been once, have enjoyed not going ever since.

I spent today in what was possibly the most boring meeting ever. And it wasn't just me that thought so - the general consensus of those I spoke to afterwards was that the whole thing seemed totally unnecessary. That's six hours of my life that I'm never going to get back...
I'm not giving anything up for Lent. Instead, I've decided to do something positive - I'm going to pay somebody a compliment every day. I think it's going to be harder than it sounds - as a nation we Brits aren't very good at either taking or receiving compliments. We'll see how I get on...
#80 I'm afraid I hold the opposite view - there are very few songs that I can't bear to listen to, but 'Constant Craving' is one of them. To me, it's the musical equivalent of scraping your fingers down a blackboard. So I had to switch the radio off, and consequently didn't hear the mensh for it. Well done for the other menshes - I heard Florence's.
Gazza *adopts stern expression* you keep on taking those meds.
Jilly, hope you feel better soon.
Alex, hope all goes well in the Big Smoke tomorrow. And I think you might owe me a FB reply too... ;o)

Hope I didn't miss any names, I'm under a multitude of harrassments here!
I was interested in what Melvyn Bragg had to say, and I can go along with some of it. But I still think it's very hard for people born into poverty, to break out of that cycle. It does happen, but it's rare, and there still isn't as much movement in certain professions, as one would hope. The example given being at the top of the political spectrum, as was mentioned in the interview. I simply cannot accept that those people are the best our country has to offer, and many of them still have the old sense of entitlement that goes along with being descended from old money, and aristocracy. Anyway, I could rattle on about this subject matter for ages, but you'll all be relieved to hear that I haven't got the time ;-)
Duty calls.
Have a goodnight one and all xxxx

It was a good night for bloggers' menshes tonight! I wonder if Simon's comment about fewer bloggers posting had anything to do with so many familiar names! Perhaps it was his way of trying to 'round up some stragglers'!
Well done Autumn Gale, Jennie Wren, Mandy, Nadine and a hat-trick for me this week! The Driver was right about Constant Craving being played and like Deebee, it's not a song I like, but it fitted the theme! As a Queen fan, it was a nice change hearing one of their songs played for Matt to mosh!

Really enjoyed the show – the interaction – the camaraderie – seems to be the perfect blend - LOVE it!
Welldone to all menshees – A good night for bloggers methinks - I shan’t try to name everyone – I’m sure to miss someone out!
Disappointed to read Katy’s post. Would like to ask why? – Although I know it all becomes addictive – but if Katy’s not blogging – she won’t be able to answer. Ha!
Related – where’s Paul? PoS?
During the show we prepped and roasted Peppers, Courgettes, Aubergines, Onions & Garlic.
This will make a Roasted Veg. Lasagne and a Roasted Veg. Mozz. Bake and a side dish of roasted courgettes. All Delish – and you should smell our kitchen.
Non Sequitur –
Tonight I used a clothes brush which I have had longer than my husband! We think it’s a “Ronco” as advertised on TV! It’s plastic – grey – with a wine coloured central bit. The idea is that you brush the hairs and stuff in one direction and then to clean the brush you brush in the other direction. And it works – and it has worked for about 30 years! Not bad for something like £1. 86!
Any other stories?
Hi MTF! (Sal!)

Anyway...
Katy - Sorry to hear that you won't be blogging again until Easter :( I should have kept my trap shut earlier r.e bloggers giving up blogging for lent. But you must do what is right for you.
Florence - Simon has been very generous with the menshes since his return :)
Gill - I thought you'd mentioned being gluten-free before. I heard Simon mention that he'd had gluten-free pancakes, during the show. I think there's a better range of products available in shops these days, but I'm not sure how they compare price-wise :-/
Billie - On Twitter the other day, Andy (formerly Artfoundry Man/Wharfedale Andy of this parish) mentioned that his ironing board was 30 years old, and still in service. I replied that my ironing board was also of a similar age, as I've had it 20+ years, and it came to me second hand. Mind you, I am like Matt on the ironing front, in that I don't do it! I buy crease-free clothing, and body heat takes care of the rest (I once tweeted this to Simon when ironing was discussed once before, and he read it out) I know some people will frown on me for not ironing, but really, life is just too damn short.
Now it really is bedtime, the washing machine repair man is coming first thing, after 5 cancelled appointments and 2 visits with the wrong part... Shocking customer service from the Astronomically named electrical goods retailer!
Goodnight one and all :)
