Glad to hear SM's 'doing ok thanks' on his hols...just back from mine (Cornwall as you ask) where the weather was 'ok to iffy' at best, and we all had a sickness & diarrohea bug...and only one bathroom.

In need of a holiday to get over that one (esp the drive back along M4/M5 with the motorway loonies, whilst feeling non too clever). Luckily am off to St Lucia on Saturday with sis-in-law for some more wet, windy weather (hurricane season, dontcha know). But hey, the cocktails are free!!

SM is back next Monday, when I'm away and probably will find it hard to post from the Caribbean, so enjoy everyone....will catch up the week after,

As Katy takes us through yet another century, it may be aposite to look back at what we, the wonderful bloggpoppets of The Simon Mayo Show have achieved, this past three weeks.



We started with a wee chuckle at Simons impending dental appointment, now a historical fact. Let us hope that the new filling is up to the task of broadcasting entertaining musical whimsy, and items of both entertainment and import with equal excellent measure to the nation.



On we strode, affecting our usual mock dismay when our ARF's weren't chosen,and off we went into our first Simonless weekend. How would we cope? How? Magnificently, that's how. We were embarking together on a journey that would bring new ideas to the blog. One that would bring joy, pain and great innovation.



Who amongst us could not have been moved by the plight of poor Dylan? But then came the fightback, as he strove manfully, er, rabbitfully, to earn back his health. A flop-eared hero in our midst. Seemingly inspired by what animalkind could achieve, Monty Cockerel made his bid to widen his horizons.

Eggwina mat yet make him pay for his dalliances, though.



Inspired, presumably, by the Twilight movies, our very own Spike,(careful with that Spike, you could pierce someones heart with that), decided upon a move to combined nocturnal painting and blogging. An astonishing period in which he worked tirelessly, day and night, night and day, without a break, and with only Katy for company, blogging and painting for all he was worth. It was during this period, that, whilst armed only with curryhouse garlic breath, he fought off the unwanted advances of the evil, feral night-creatures. It took a bit out of him, but with the support of his fellow poppets, he was able to pull through.



And Katy. We have seen her take her first faltering steps in Hat making, to finally become the worlds leading manufacturer of blog based millinery, a hat for any occasion. AND, she also shoewd her remarkable talent for entirely pointless maths and stats. Genius of needless proportions. Let's raise our glasses, and indeed our hats to her.



I cannot, in this small space pay homage to all that contributed to this ever increasing blog, but you have all been absolutely bllodt marvellous, coming together in this spirit of camarderie. We have invented new pastimes, such as the entirely strange idea of pitching songs that will not be played, but tied in with out spurious themes of the day.



What can I say. It has been a pleasure to be on this journey with you all. It has been inspiring.

#31 Funny you should say that, MCW - you may know that there's been a meteor shower over East Anglia the past few nights, and I was remembering only last night when some of us watched a similar thing 'together' last year.



A question for you gardening types - I did a bit of weeding and deadheading when I got home this evening. Now my lips are burning slightly, as if I've been eating chilli. I'm not especially worried - it hasn't got any worse in the last hour. But I've taken some antihistimine as a precaution. And I'm wondering what might have caused it. Any ideas?

Sorry for my absence again :( These school holidays are a slog! Things haven't been too bad, just busy, it's all go from waking to sleeping and once the twins are in bed, I am fit to drop! :O



Deebee - I'm not sure what might have affected you in the garden, some kind of pollen maybe? All I know is that this year, I have had to take more anti-histamines than ever before! :O I usually have to take them for a few weeks at some point between June and September, but I've had flare-ups on and off for weeks now :( On Saturday I got itchy, sneezy and my chest felt really tight, I had to buy some emergency allergy tablets whilst I was out (I really should carry them around!) and I was o.k once I took it.



Belated well done to Gazza for claiming the ARFO crown :)



I must confess that I haven't been listening to Liza on Drivetime, because she isn't my cup of tea, but I don't wish to say anything negative about her. I am looking forward to Simon returning next Monday though.



I have been trying out some new music, in the absence of listening to the radio in the evenings. I follow Russell Crowe on Twitter, and he has been tweeting about his new album on there for a couple of weeks now. To say I was sceptical about his musical talents, would be an understatement! But I was curious enough to seek it out and listen to a few tracks, and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. There are some beautiful songs on there, and his wife Danielle Spencer (who features on many of the tracks) has a lovely voice. Anyway, it's called The Crowe/Doyle Songbook Volume III, and the 'focus' track 'Too Far Gone' is pretty catchy. I think it's available on spotify now, if anyone wants to give it a go.



I'll try and pop by tomorrow, all things being equal.

Had a lovely phone call from Andy, the BBC producer who I spoke to on Friday about my ARF opener suggestion (Dignity by Deacon Blue, in case you'd forgotten) ..



He explained that they didn't call me back because Steve Wright played another Deacon Blue choon towards the end of his show, and the five o'clock news contained an unfortunate boating related story and they didn't want to seem unsympathetic ..



I was very touched to receive this update and at the thought that goes into picking the playlist .. much respect to the production team ..

There are some fab people working at Radio 2, some of whom don't always get the credit they deserve. As an aside, Deacon Blue are one of the acts performing at 'Prawns in the Pork' this year, and we are going - woohoo!



Gazza, that's certainly a point of view - I haven't heard the song you're talking about. But there have also been some really good covers - there are several excellent versions of 'Lilac Wine' for example.



Well, today can't quite make it's mind up what weather it's going to give us. It's a bit overcast and windy here, but I think the sun is trying to peek through - not sure it'll be enough to have the roof down this morning though.

It was fully booked, on the very few nights when any of us could have even considered eating sadly; Voovray was recommended by the car park guy as a locals favourite, again - booked, or we weren't up to it. Darn.

Oh and Happy Birthday to *Alison of Eastleigh*, one of my work colleagues has a 27th b'day today (mere child) and she has forgotten the cakes (sob) so yes, I am feeling better and back on the solids!

Ricky Ross from Deacon Blue was in for Bob on Saturday night/Sunday morning. He does a cracking job, and has a regular show on Radio Scotland. I'm going to have to seek it out I think, sounds like he plays a lot of music on there that I'd like as well.



Love the internet - geographical boundaries for radio stations gone at a stroke. WDVX, a publically supported station from Knoxville, East Tennessee is a regular station streaming on my Squeezebox (other streaming boxes available etc.) or on my phone when I'm out and about with earphones in - I love their "Americana Mix" shows.

Talking of runners, I posted on here a while back or maybe fb, who knows, about growing some stringless runner beans this year. I am happy to report, that it did what it said on the label. What it failed to add, was that I would also be beanless, hmph!!



No a single bean in sight, lots of lovely green foliage, but nowt else, hence the generous donation from the neighbours.

20 bags of beans Alice, of small portions I hasten to add. Had about ten pounds of beans so just under half a pound per bag. As I say, luckily have a spare freezer in the shed, so usually stock it with garden produce.

#68 Shona, I wonder if your friend is regretting turning him down... And I wish I'd known about the wet towel/spider thing - Daughter is forever leaving wet towels on her bedroom floor (thus over a couple of days rendering the bathroom towel-less). And she is terrified of spiders.



#73 Sadly not enough hangs into our garden to make it worth my - or the children's - efforts.



I love Turkish food too. I hadn't really tasted it until we went to Turkey last year - it was quite a revelation to find that kebabs aren't actually those disgusting, fly-covered meaty things that hang in the window but are a rather delicious form of casserole.



There appear to be some peeps MIA. Where's LuciesMum? Or Billie? Toots should be back from her hols by now as well. And some of the newbies seem to have disappeared as well - Nadine, Mrs Boris, Dougal? And apologoes to any other absent regulars who's names I've missed - you are all missed, of course!

Sorry for absinthe. I've been lurking but when it goes over 100 my work PC struggles to load the page, and my afternoons have been busy trying to build my bizziness. I managed to design and publish my website so proper chuffed with that effort!



Lovely of Simon to give everyone a mini blog just to keep things ticking over, and loving his briefness of Twitter too. Can't listen to Drivetime at the mo, so rekindling relationships with my iPod and old CDs, which is actually quite nice!



Right, best fly. Nic's on the way home, tea to cook then a pub quiz to go and win .... ahem!

deebee it was the song beverly knight has out now,i like the cover versions of songs that people did in the older days as many of the origanal(cant spell)songs wern't big hits but did better when covered,exampes like



house of the rising sun,just one look,he aint heavy,red red wine im a beliver the last 3 are neil diamond songs,artists these days dont do there own stuff just rip off a classic or use bits of a classic,i also dont like people who go on the x factor and pop idol people saying thay have talent, if thay had talent thay wouldnt need 2 go on the show as thay would get contracts,people these days are getting famous because of these shows, reality programes are making people famous 4 no reason then you see them on nearly every program or in the papers all the time,

Arrived home after work yesterday to find unexpected visitors in the house. A lovely surprise and a good evening was had by all. The first time we have all been together socially in 10 years! However, we had sensible "during the week" heads on - no really, we did!
