We are experiencing high demand....
I mean really what's the point? You get up early for no reason, then are reminded on twitter that you can apply for the Olympic tickets that no one wanted last time. So give it a go and log on, only to get the password wrong and then fail the security question. Now I won't be able to attend the Greco-Roman Wrestling with my happy and grateful family in tow.
So now I have a few hours to tackle some ironing and be useful. That self-righteous glow is unmistakeable and stays with me all day. In fact I'll read by its light at bedtime.
BTW, I am becoming a keen collector of knackered music. The cd you put on when the radio just can't fathom your mood correctly. And my latest find is the Gillian Welch album 'The Harrow and the Harvest' (when I say 'find', it was given to me and I was told I'd like it). Sir Bob played some last night and it really is beautiful. That Dave Rawlings is on guitar too. Nicky Campbell over at 5Live says knackered used to be a banned word at Radio 1, which I don't remember, but it seems pretty harmless these days. I do remember when '(Sexual) Healing' had to be introduced as just plain old 'Healing'. Tender days, the 80's.
It's a 2-show day again with some movies to review at 5 Live at midday as the tennis takes over later. Then the mighty ARF hits the airwaves and your weekend begins, courtesy of some Abba, AC/DC and Tom Jones (just guessing). Get that song in now! It's easier than getting tickets for the wrestling!
Have a cool and groovy Friday, see you after 12 and 5.

As part of my capitial trip i took time to sipping a glass of chilled something at the Southbank complex over looking Waterloo bridge while the sun was going down, therefore naturally i shall be requesting :-

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the word 'knackered' is something to do with dead horses - can't imagine why Radio 1 would ban it.
As I've already had two menshes this week I'm sitting out the ARFO chasing today. Don't want to be greedy. I hope Brandon gets to hand over the crown to another blogpoppet.

As for ironing: I don't buy clothes that require ironing and we have a firm rule in our household that no one does anyone else's. In my opinion, if you reach puberty without being able or willing to iron your own clothes you either have to wear them crumpled or find other options. So, apart from the odd occasion when I need to wear a proper shirt, I just don't do it. Life really is too short!!

No news on the job interview; part two is happening next Weds, and no invite landed in my inbox so am guessing I'm on the waste heap on that one.
But am counting my blessings - there must have been someone else who needed/wanted/deserved it more than me!
I had a Lord Ammo 'couch potato' moment last night, as my #1 daughter texted me to say that Paul Weller in Hyde Park was singing Van the Man songs - & 'was I jealous?'...not really, I replied - as I was at the time attending a wonderful stirring and uplifting Corpus Christi sung mass - bells, smells, and even whistles...followed by curry & beer with very good friends.
See what I mean about blessed?
My ARFO for today would have to be, as the super-cool, -152degrees Mr Weller is in my head:

STYLE COUNCIL: WALLS COME TUMBLING DOWN
Re Gillian Welch I started listening to her (and Lucinda Williams) years ago, all thanks to Sir Bob, proving why he deserves his knighthood!
Fave track: Everything is Free from 'Time (The Revelator)'

Gazza - I take exception to your remarks about it being 'older' people who don't get SW. I'm younger than you, and I grew up listening to SW. I said yesterday that I was a loyal listener to his show in the 80s and early 90s, and even when he first came to Radio 2. But I have moved with the times, and IMHO he hasn't!
Going to have a proper read back of today's blog, as I only skimmed over it before...

We had it on in the 6th form common room, and the spoof dodgy chat line ads, and Sid the Manager, and co all seemed to work quite well in a zoo-listening environment.
I find his show unlistenable now I'm afraid, but I don't listen in the same sort of environment - does Radio 2 get listened to much in a school/office/factory environment the way Radio 1 would have been when I was at school? Not so sure).
If he's on when I'm in the car I will tune to Peter Allen on 5 Live for an hour then switch back to Simon at 5.05.

At 15:20 24th Jun 2011, Our Zoe wrote:#72 & #73 I think you are on the money there Ken, we also used to have SW on in the 6th form common room, and sometimes in the back room/stock room at work, and in these environments his show worked very well. Now that I think about it, I rarely listened to SW on my home radio during the 80s and early 90s.
Like I say, I was a regular listener to SW's show when he first came to Radio 2, but I have to disagree with you again there Gazza, because I think I liked him more then because he had dropped the comedy characters. However they seem to have been creeping back in over the years, and frankly I find them all quite cringe-worthy now.
I'm not sure losing 'The Big Quiz' has made that much of a difference to the show tbh, because whenever I heard it, SW and Tim Smith seemed to dominate it anyway, with the poor contestants barely getting a word in edgewise.
SW has a lot in common with CE style-wise IMHO, they both appear to be more interested in themselves, and what they have got to say, than the music or their guests. Both have a tendency to come over 'all showbiz' and fawn dreadfully over some guests, whilst barely concealing their contempt for other, less favoured guests.
I seem to be in a ranty mood today :/ Oh dear! Maybe Gazza is right after all, maybe it is an age thing, I will be another year older on Monday!! :O

Been busy this week so no time to blog. Managed to catch most of the 2DAY shenanigans and I thought it was a great idea and mostly worked well although I admit I wouldn't want my lovely schedules tinkered with too regularly!
I did love listening to presenters and music that I usually miss, so well done Radio 2 and in that vein my two offerings for this afternoon's ARF are -
THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT - THE JAM
I LOVE MUSIC - THE O'JAYS
Have a good day and a lovely weekend.

I was laughing at 'good value gazza', who never fails to amuse [Hi HappyH!] with his sweeping assumptions regarding BBC radio progs and how it's all down to AGE ..
.. my nerdy take on all this?
SW in his 57th year is somewhat older than the average R2 listener [52 years old] but if you combine him and Tim and Janey Lee then divide by three, their average age is a direct hit on the target audience. Spooky.
Of the 5 daytimers - our Simon is currently the average age of the R2 listener, Chris is slightly younger, as is Jezza. Ken is older - - but is the AGE of the presenter actually an issue here?
Curiously enough - the average age if you add together the ages of the big five and divide by five - the average also matches the target audience - ie. 52 years old!
That makes Mr Mayo pretty darn perfect as a R2 daytime presenter - but we knew that anyway.
:^)
