ARF has comes around again and this week I am back in the office after the trip last Friday to Edingburgh University open day with daughter two , and a two day trip to London this week. Alas the London trip was all business and no tennis ! Therefore i had no chance to shout “Come on Tim or Andy” !!



As part of my capitial trip i took time to sipping a glass of chilled something at the Southbank complex over looking Waterloo bridge while the sun was going down, therefore naturally i shall be requesting :-

Yep! ironing is satisfying.....but hate duvet covers!!!



I am the boss at the kickboxing club today and tomorrow ( 3 hours teaching the kids classes with the help of a 13 year old!!) This is because the owner, my buddy is fighting for the Kwon England team in Germany tomorrow ( all expenses paid by the Germans!) As for ironing: I don't buy clothes that require ironing and we have a firm rule in our household that no one does anyone else's. In my opinion, if you reach puberty without being able or willing to iron your own clothes you either have to wear them crumpled or find other options. So, apart from the odd occasion when I need to wear a proper shirt, I just don't do it. Life really is too short!!

Surprisingly cheerful this morning after the car's MOT cost came in way under what I budgeted for (replacement of nearside rear suspension downlink arm had me imagining a bill of hundreds rather then the £60 that it actually cost). Result.

Re ironing - everyone in our house is supposed to do their own, but it doesn't necessarily get done in as timely a fashion as I would like. So there are always piles of it in our utility room. I find it a chore, but I pass the time listening to music or a podcast, catching up on 'Casualty' episodes or with the radio on if I happen to be ironing between the hours of 5 and 7 on a weekday ;o)

#8. Mandy, good luck to your buddy in the competition in Germany. My eldest does TAGB Tae Kwon do and he has a new instructor who happens to be 5 times and current world champion and 5th dan, it was his 1st lesson on Tuesday and to see him teach is amazing.



Ironing doesnt bother me at all, I sometimes iron for hours on end if I am watching tv or listening to a cd or the radio.

#26 Debbie... it's lovely living so close to the beach, as well as being surrounded by fields... horses on one side of us, and wheat and barley on the other! Living so far from a beach, you'll appreciate it more than someone like me, who can walk along it every day! I always have my little camera or phone in my pocket, as I love taking pics, and this morning my dogs were the first on the beach where we walked!

Fantastic, and Doug Pettibone, who is excellent, was on guitar in the band around then. Was a a cracking good night. And mustn't forget "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road", my other favourite, which has Buddy Miller's mando-guitar on it. Which is the finest sound on the planet :-)

#54 Ken, I'm sure they do. I have a couple of armchairs so they can sit comfortably and read before they decide to buy but I'm sure some do abuse this. It's quite unbelievable what some will do. I've had people asking if they could take books to library to photocopy a page as they don't want the whole book.

#46 Debbie.... I have zillions of pics as I'm always snapping away at anything and everything, especially when out dog walking!!! Here's a pic I took one day whilst walking across the putting green when one of my daft Bassets put her face into the hole just after a ball had dropped in! Needless to say she couldn't open her mouth to retrieve the ball and the guys who were putting, thought it was a hoot!!! :o))

#67 Interesting. I always felt that SW in the early days was best listened to in a zoo-listening environment. We had it on in the 6th form common room, and the spoof dodgy chat line ads, and Sid the Manager, and co all seemed to work quite well in a zoo-listening environment.



I find his show unlistenable now I'm afraid, but I don't listen in the same sort of environment - does Radio 2 get listened to much in a school/office/factory environment the way Radio 1 would have been when I was at school? Not so sure).



If he's on when I'm in the car I will tune to Peter Allen on 5 Live for an hour then switch back to Simon at 5.05.

Harry, I can't spoil happy hornets fun. Can I?

#72 & #73 I think you are on the money there Ken, we also used to have SW on in the 6th form common room, and sometimes in the back room/stock room at work, and in these environments his show worked very well. Now that I think about it, I rarely listened to SW on my home radio during the 80s and early 90s.



Like I say, I was a regular listener to SW's show when he first came to Radio 2, but I have to disagree with you again there Gazza, because I think I liked him more then because he had dropped the comedy characters. However they seem to have been creeping back in over the years, and frankly I find them all quite cringe-worthy now.



I'm not sure losing 'The Big Quiz' has made that much of a difference to the show tbh, because whenever I heard it, SW and Tim Smith seemed to dominate it anyway, with the poor contestants barely getting a word in edgewise.



SW has a lot in common with CE style-wise IMHO, they both appear to be more interested in themselves, and what they have got to say, than the music or their guests. Both have a tendency to come over 'all showbiz' and fawn dreadfully over some guests, whilst barely concealing their contempt for other, less favoured guests.



I seem to be in a ranty mood today :/ Oh dear! Maybe Gazza is right after all, maybe it is an age thing, I will be another year older on Monday!! :O

Deebs and Mo - with reference to that post I typed out this morning then didn't enter -



I was laughing at 'good value gazza', who never fails to amuse [Hi HappyH!] with his sweeping assumptions regarding BBC radio progs and how it's all down to AGE ..



.. my nerdy take on all this?



SW in his 57th year is somewhat older than the average R2 listener [52 years old] but if you combine him and Tim and Janey Lee then divide by three, their average age is a direct hit on the target audience. Spooky.



Of the 5 daytimers - our Simon is currently the average age of the R2 listener, Chris is slightly younger, as is Jezza. Ken is older - - but is the AGE of the presenter actually an issue here?

Curiously enough - the average age if you add together the ages of the big five and divide by five - the average also matches the target audience - ie. 52 years old!



That makes Mr Mayo pretty darn perfect as a R2 daytime presenter - but we knew that anyway.

#73 Snap Ken. Peter Allen is class. I also listen to the first hour of 5live breakfast. Rachel is doing a very good job of replacing Shelagh. Home earlier today so tennis is on until 5.05 when it'll be muted for ARF.
