Loved David Hepworth's tweet yesterday suggesting that the January transfer window was all about popular players trying to move closer to Harrods.



Then followed up with a note that case proven by Torres off to Chelsea and El Hadj Diouf, of spitting in players faces and screaming at players with broken legs fame, moving to Rangers (Glasgow not QPR presumably :-) ). Which begs the question of why anyone in these isles would still want that vile individual.

#65 - I think poop came about through a commonplace typo; instead of popping I always seemed to end up with pooping and it appears in the blogpoppets dictionary. I kinda like the word poop so will carry on using it. However, I respect your decision not to use it. There are words in the Oxford dictionary that I don't like so I don't use them.



As you will see from my suggestion at #50-something, yet again, I didn't quite get the theme. Doh!



SW - what a feeling of relief you must have. I'm not involved in the preparation of tax returns but can feel the sense of relief experienced by those who are - it must be the collective big sigh all preparers of tax returns let out when they awoke this morning.

Fellow Bloggettes, I have for the first time in my life actually googled for news about a sport subject, just to get an inside view of what it's all about. Usually it's just something that takes up good telly time!

#77 Suzie - I'm with you there. I'm not really into football either, or any sport for that matter. Although I inevitably get drawn in to the big games (eg World Cup). I guess I don't have that competitive gene that makes me want to support one side over the other. Whenever I do watch sport on TV (if another family member is watching it and I happen to be in the room) I always end up gunning for the losing side, out of sympathy. I keep trying though. Maybe if I made a concerted effort to support a particular team, check the results, learn the names of the players... actually, if I could develop a crush on a player that would help. But David Ginola has retired, hasn't he...? ;o)

Don't get the appeal of Jo 'been there done that and got a T shirt to prove it' Whiley...much sadness that the boys are moving to a 6 music LUNCHTIME slot, who with a job has time to listen to that then? - yes, yes listen again is all very well but then I get confused by the news bulletins which tell me out of date stuff!

Lying in the bath listening to Mark and Stu was one of my top ten things to do on a cold night...

# 83 - R&M on Radio 6 is a travesty. They are a jewel in the crown of Radio 2, absolutely wonderful. This sounds like elbowing TOTP onto BBC2 in order to say "the viewing figures are down - let's dump it", or doing the same with Question of Sport, now on at three o'clock in the morning on a Korean network with celebrity guests instead of sportsmen... of course the viewing figures have dropped! Jo Wiley either begins every sentence with "I'm Jo Whiley" or ends it with "and don't forget - I'm Jo Whiley". Awful. I shouldn't use this blog to make critical comments about other presenters, but she so clearly wants to be the new John Peel, and so clearly hasn't got the kudos or the whoomph. Just an irritating voice. Aaagh. Radio 6 during the day is a death trap. Unless of course the boys want it themselves - I know Mark has a youngster and a dog, so maybe he wants to be home in the evenings once in a while. But - aaaaggghhh.

Glad I am not alone in my sadness at R&M moving on. At least we still have Drivetime!

Looks to me like Shennan was looking to shift Mark and Stuart off the mainstream station.



BS will always be remembered as the person who axed The Treatment to put the truly awful Wright and Bright show on in it's place. Clever wit and humour replaced by Wright phoning his footballing mates and having an "alright man, how ya doin'" sort of conversation. Total turn off.



I see there's no Camden field trip for Simon and team this year. The Electric Proms have been scrapped.

#90 - I thought it was just me. I didn't want to have a moan about JW on here but feel I'd like to have my say. I agree her voice is so irritating that if the elderGB is listening to Radio 1 in the car and she's on, I get all cross and switch it back to Radio 2. I didn't like the job she did presenting the Paolo Nutini gig from Paisley - it spoiled my enjoyment (and I adore PN - swoon, swoon - wish I was 25 years younger ;)). I love R & M - they sometimes keep me company in the kitchen whilst preparing the next day's packed lunches for the GBs. Down off the soapbox, ranty pants back in the drawer ready for whoever would like to have them next.

I have nothing against JW personally (well - I have, but it's too long to rant on here about), unless finding her presentation style humourless, monotonous, self-important, ingratiating, saintly and drudging is personal. What do you think? On her shows great music is represented thus: "really important, man... I can't believe I'm in the same room as (insert name of some band you'll never hear of again)", whereas Radcliffe and Maconie's tone is full of delight and enthusiasm and wit, and they make you want to hear the artist again...eg Hafdis Huld, who was on before Christmas, who made me drive an extra twenty miles on the way home just to keep listening! Nah - I'll be tuned in to another station, whether that exhibits a prejudice or not! Benefit of doubt not available here.

Aw Toots, don't like to see you gloomy. Fingets crossed a mensh tonight will cheer you up. Have to agree about JW and the Electric Proms tho x

"Our BBC" - hmm, if it was "our BBC" and what we thought matters, surely BBC1 HD would have moved to 101 on Sky Digital last night at the time of the other HD channel swaps.



Surely most HD viewers would prefer to have easy access to the channel in the prime slot at 101 for the majority of the day, and have to search for the SD channel a couple of times a day for local news if they really want to watch that.



The reason given to me by the Head of HD and Digital is that 1 HD is still a work in progress and they need the country versions before they can make the swap. Why? It's just an EPG position swap, nothing more dramatic. Who are they trying to appease by not making the swap. Early HD adopters who've got used to 147 or whatever silly number it's on?

#96 - B&B - I agree R & M are a delight to listen to - they demonstrate all the qualities you mention plus have good knowledge of a lot of topics. They will most certainly be sadly missed.
