Yes, that Nicole.
Hello bloggers old and new, it's a lovely Wednesday and we're almost past the hump. Apologies for slowness on the blog yesterday, it was caused apparently by too many many nuclo-pixels appearing at a time of soft-flange weakness. This, combined with 90Mb of old disc disintegration meant that the slowdown was unavoidable. An upgrade has been purchased and once I've read the instructions, all will be well.
Lovely to have Mike Harding on the show yesterday-he travelled down especially! So many stories and tunes to talk about, I could have kept it all going till 9 but then other shows would have got cross. Tonight it's Nicole Kidman from Nashville to talk about her new movie "Rabbit Hole", in which she stars with Aaron Eckhart and Dianne Wiest. It's good too and manages to be about a tough subject (losing a child) while not being mawkish or harrowing. Ms Kidman from 6 of course.
And your creative musical thoughts please into the world of MIDSOMER MURDERS as tonight sees the last episode with John Nettles in it. How will we cope? Ease his (professional) passing with with a top musical offering below.
Have a comfortable and reassuring Wednesday, see you after 5.

Good morning Simon, Team, NYM and fellow Blogpoppets!
Good to see the blog is better. I had a suspicion it was something to do with the flange. Troublesome things.
I really enjoyed the Mike Harding interview last night. I had laboured under the mis-apprehension of folk music being for cardigan and sandal wearing real ale drinkers but, through listening to Mike's show, have been enlightened. He came across as a really warm man. I also enjoyed Allison Pearson (as you may have guessed from my David Cassidy fest after the show!). Will make sure I am home to hear the Nicole Kidman interview - I think she is one of the few "stars" in the old Hollywood tradition.
Also enjoyed R&M last night and reflected on how broad the spectrum of music and discussion is within their show.
A gentle day today and, so far, I haven't spilt my coffee.

At the Transatlantic Sessions shows there is a big age range of people in the audience, and there are plenty of new young acts that have a very young audience.
I can't imagine anyone could not find something they like within the "folk" category. It's one of the reasons why labelling is bad news - I know there's loads of music I listen to now that I would probably have discovered much sooner if I didn't go through my teens and 20s thinking "I don't like folk and country".
It's also why eclectic programmes are good news - my tastes broadened after finding Bob was on Radio 2 on the way home from a Yes concert one Saturday night. Listened in expecting to hear lots of classic rock and ended up getting blown away by Emmylou, Dolly and Linda Ronstad's voices blending together.

But I have to also confess I've never seen a single minute of the aforementioned programme, so actually have no idea what it's all about, except that he's a policeman in the countryside. Good opportunity for a LOL, methinks.

Liver Birds was beautifully written - Lucien (?) and his rabbits, who was married to Helen Worth (Lucien, not the rabbits) and of course MOLLY SUGDEN!

I was suprised when I looked through the programme playlist at how very few records are actually played...but I guess that's due to the great banter/guest spot/confessions etc that take up so much time.

Apologoes for the late arrival: not only have I spent 2 weeks preparing for a conference, 1 week attending the thing, but we come back to find that we are having some of the carpets replaced so my boss's office needs clearing out and he's not here to do it! Exhausted of East Yorks here!
So, no time to make suggestions! I did enjoy hearing Mike Harding last night - I used to enjoy him doing stand up on the TV.
I saw John Nettles as Polonius in Hamlet last year and he was great!
Good luck for the suggestions tonight - I'll be listening if I ever get home!

PS Re. yesterday's conversation, I caught some of the Radcliffe & Maconie show last night, without Mr Maconie - has he already gone?

I say that - it's one of my all time favourite things I've seen on the telly, full stop! It's on Youtube if anyone wants to look ("You Tube if you want to - the lady's not for...." - never mind!)

Thank goodness we know what caused it now, I thought thats probably what it was !!!!
Off to read back over all the suggestions and see if I can offer anything remotely linked to todays topic.
