Pipe down
Mild. Wet. Which is better than cold and dry (IMHO as the kids have it). Hope all is good. I smell normal today. Just thought I needed to say that. It was only when I mentioned the fact that I had spilt a gallon or 2 of diesel over my shoes yesterday, did anyone start to say I smelt. Now everyone's saying it. Did they think it was my aftershave? Or my socks maybe? Apparently I could ask the garage to pay for some new shoes but I suspect it won't be worth the bother. I'll press on. With oily stains that's all.
Bob Geldof today. It is an article of broadcasting law that you can't do a dull interview with Bob. I blogged last week about how it went but let me say again how interesting he is, particularly about growing old. In that sense he ties in with a few of Paul Torday's comments yesterday about taking up a new challenge/hobby/job when in your 50's. Chris Evans has his writing competition for the kids but maybe we all should be able to join in! Bob is very positive about being in his late 50's, look forward to your comments.
So on the music, let's turn to President B. Obama who appears to have GIVEN UP SMOKING. He's spoken about trying to give up, now it appears he has. So TOBACCO, CIGARETTES and GIVING UP will work nicely. Over to you.
Have a an energy-filled and boisterous Wednesday, see you after 5

kd Lang did a fab album called "Drag" which was all about smoking. It was given to me by one of my bestest friends, together with an ashtray that coughs and another ashtray that has "Jesus hates it when you smoke" written on it. Any of the tracks on that album fit the theme but my fave is:

At 10:14 9th Feb 2011, Paul of Sheffield wrote:Katy, my method of packing up the fags (80 a day habit) was less dramatic than yours. Whilst holidaying in a self catering farmhouse in Devon with about 15 friends and rellys, some 12 years ago now, I started getting pain in my left arm. We all know what this is a portent of, and quite frankly it scared the (expletive deleted) out of me. On returning home, the left arm still troubling me, I went to the local chemist and invested in the strongest patches I could. Someone advised me to keep the last ciggy in the packet, so that when (if) successful, I could say that I had actually given up, and wasn't just a smoker without any cigarettes. To be honest, I didn't take that advice, as being a newsagent, it wasn't likely that I would ever be without thousands of the blimmin' things.
Anyway, difficult though it was, I perevered through that first week with the strong patches, spurred on by the fact that the pain in my left arm did seem to be easing a bit. I thought it must just be my imagination, but I stuck with it, and went back to the chemist to buy a slightly lower strength pack of patches. This was where my business brain kicked in. (Free business lesson coming up). Although, I was a very heavy smoker, I hate to waste money, and upon discovering that the slightly weaker patches were in fact the same price as their stronger counterparts, I decided then and there not to buy the weaker patches, and instead bought the stronger ones again. When I got home, I made use of the scissors from Lueys sewing box, and cut the patches in half, thus giving me a fortnights supply of weaker patches for the price of a weeks.(Lesson over)
I used most of these up, and on the tenth day it occurred to me that the pain in my arm had pretty much gone, and so I discontinued the patches at that point, and have had no need for either cigarette or patch since.
The following year, friends and rellys decided that we had had such a good time at the farmhouse in Devon, that we would go back. It was on that second holiday, when the pain in my left arm returned. Not to worry, though. It turned out that it was caused by the way I was lying in the frankly knackered bed, and within two weeks of returning back home, the pain had once again dissipated, never to return.

Smoking?
My GD is 20 in 9 months time.
So, this week, I celebrate 20 years of being tobacco free.
If ever there was a good reason to give up, then that was it.
I would have course have given up a long time before, but the little darling was somewhat a bit of a surprise.

I have never smoked. Not ever. I'm not saying this to appear a goody two shoes or anything (I have plenty of other vices!), I've just never fancied it. Mr B has the occasional cigar on special occasions, and I must admit I quite like the smell of it. But my mother-in-law died from lung cancer 4 years ago, probably caused by passive smoking (she worked for years in an office with smokers). And it was horrible to see her suffering.

Its probably going to be the week after that.
I dont necessarily think they are putting them out in the order that they filmed them.
I think some parts of the filming are going to be a bit cringeworthy, as Gok was trying to get them to talk Brizzle like. LOL!
