Walking back after the school run a group of us mums came a across a dad heading back towards school. Spotting our bemused looks he explained he had walked all the way home only to remember he had driven to school this morning. The walk home involved walking straight past his own car. The dad in question isn't any more than 30 - certainly not a TOG!

#18 - shame, i like January - it's my birthday month, and I always associate it with parties from my childhood. Having said that, the older I get, the more I try to ignore the 12th Janury!

Mcw, was it in individual glass bottles with a straw in?



We used to stop off at a country pub on the long drive back from Nanas and Dad would come out with a tray of drinks Everyone had their own individual bottle with a straw in it, boy could we make some noises (which were frowned upon!) when we reached the bottom of the bottle. Shlurppppp!

#22 I remember sitting outside a pub when young, with a bottle of lemonade and a paper straw. Do they make those straws nowadays? I too remember those slurpy noises!

I think, if we could get away with it and the landlord didn't recognise us, it would be a cider or shandy! One of the downsides to a June birthday Kev, is that you are always one of the youngest in your school year! I was one of the last to turn 18! Long time ago....



I remember the paper straws, got very soggy, I seem to remember. I was a slow drinker as a child!

Struggling to get going with the housework this morning. Might be something to do with the 4.5 mile run at 6.00 am. Deebee, please may I have a pint of whatever it is you're on? Glad you're feeling chipper, Honey.



Well done on getting to your GD's performance Simon. Isn't it great to think that you would have been so sorely missed :)



Paper straws? Happy days! I do recall they got squashed very easily at the top which made it nigh on impossible to carry on enjoying the refreshment without almost hyperventilating with the effort of sucking the drink through such a small space.

Surely something from Glee, in honour of the offspring's stage triumph? Depends on your point of view on the whole Glee thing if you think it's appropriate, or an insult! But unless she is between the ages of 17-21 (I did a survey) she will love it!

MTF - oh yeah - it was delish. Haven't had it in years. May give it a go the next time I'm designated driver. Not tomorrow night tho' - Running Club are having a Ceilidh in the local community centre - should be a lot of fun.

Glad to see the back of this week - it has been extremely hectic. High point was, of course, "Act Your Age". (Deebee, if you remember it, I told Mr P the story about the NHS barber and he roared with laughter!).

My mum went home from Woolies (showing my age) then remembered she had left my older sister as a baby in a pram, plus dog tied to it, outside the shop!

Sadly, she went back.

#56 - My aim in life when I was about 5 or 6 was to be able to suck all the sherbet through the liquorice straw - unsurprisingly, I never ever achieved that goal!



#9, 12 & 57 - I often 'lose' my car in the larger supermarket car parks! Living in Berlin as a twentysomething (many moons ago), my friend and I went over to East Berlin to take advantage of the astoundingly cheap shopping. We parked outside an arcade of shops, came out laden with bargains, strolled up the street to where the car was parked and there was an empty space!!! Our hearts sank. We then argued over who would be the one standing in the middle of the street with a card showing the union flag (as forces peeps we weren't allowed to speak to the East German guards, we could only speak to the Russian soldiers). As we weren't far from Checkpoint Charlie, we started walking back so we could speak to the American soldiers and tell them of our plight. We hadn't gone 10 yards and there was the wee Opal Kadett in all its glory. Happily chattering about our fantastic bargains, we'd walked right past the car. You can imagine the relief we felt. We always paid particular attention to where we'd parked up after that.

Just catching up with work again and have had to dash home to see a man about a greenhouse! It should be coming next week and I'm very excited and feel very grown-up! However, I think my Mum's suggestion (serious) of a greenhouse heater for my 50th birthday in March was a step into 'grownuphood' too far!

#50 No, I don't have the crown. I think it is with Alison who deservedly got it on All Request Thursday on 23 December (and she got a blog mensh the following day).



At "Act Your Age", Simon asked the panel whether anyone ever actually said "lol" and there was a funny exchange about how the show would go if instead of laughing, the audience just said "lol". Dave Sparkey confessed that he thought it meant "lots of love" and got into trouble when he sent a text to a friend which said:



"Sorry to hear your cat died. LOL".



Lol, indeed.



On the subject of senior moments, when I was the tender age of 3 months, my parents went to a rugby club do at a local chinese restaurant. They couldn't afford a babysitter and, as I was a very good baby, they took me along and put me under the table. After a very fine evening, they went home and staggered off to bed. Apparently, my dad kept muttering about having left something behind at the restaurant but he had his wallet, keys, etc and couldn't think what he could have lost. Yes, dear reader, I was finally collected from the restaurant at 3am when my parents remembered that they WERE parents. Explains a lot really!
