Hello bloggers everywhere, yes it really is Friday again and hurrah for that. Yesterday's frantic whirl was made more fun by re-interviewing film director Ron Howard for 5 Live. Steve has him on today I believe for his film 'The Dilemma' and my recording was a jolly affair with one problem. It hadn't recorded. Not one word. So after frantic conversations were held, the gracious Mr Howard agreed to re-do the interview and that's the one that will go out this afternoon. Shame the film is not "Apollo 13" but then few are.
Gary Barlow sounded great last night, a really fine concert. I tweeted last night that it was more life affirming than watching Question Time. This seemed to annoy a few followers but I think that when you get to a certain age you have less time for life shortening people and programmes and it's easier to switch off. I hold to that which is why Gary's concert was a better way to pass the time that QT. In my opinion.
But enough of such nonsense! It's Friday for heaven's sake! It is time for an All Request Friday and that's all you need to know. Opening tunes below please and let's get the weekend started in fine style.
Have an engaging and informed Friday, see you after 5.

So true about music being a better use of your time than listening to politicians. Especially in the case of QT which I think has long exceeded it's sell-by date. Same old, same old, week in week out.
I believe today is the 43rd anniversary of Jim Hendrix recording his version of "All Along the Watchtower" (with apologies for sounding like an inferior Bob-copy doing a Rock Date Diary feature).
How about that as a cracking ARF to kick the show off?

As someone who has had to live with a previous local MP being "caught" in the expenses row, I'm pretty much done with politicians. It used to be a noble career, but very few seem to do it for noble reasons now. I want an option for "none of the above" - essentially an option for I believe none of you.
Music, on the other hand, creates far better debates and is much more entertaining. IMHO of course.....!!
So how about a music and politics choice?
For me, let's go for SLADE - WE'LL BRING THE HOUSE DOWN. An excellent drum solo to begin with too... :-)
Enjoy the weekend folks. See you next week!

Earlier this week a debate took place on here about choosing songs. It involved articulate and thought provoking posts and at no stage did it get personal. In contrast QT inevitably ends up being a slanging match. The participants on QT could learn a great deal from Drivetime Bloggers.

FRIDAY I'M IN LOVE - THE CURE
Just because.
INBETWEEN DAYS would also be nice. But Friday couldn't really be described as one of those. Probably more like a Tuesday or Wednesday. But no requests then, so today'll have to do.
Thanks.

IT'S FRIDAY!!! The day to usher in the ARF! Triple hurrahs!
As usual, excellent and diverse choices so far - would love to hear all of them. Perhaps we could have a Bloggers only ARF one day - just a thought.
I am going to revert to an old regular ARF choice and plump for:
TWIST & SHOUT - Chaka Demus and Pliers
Only ever seems to be played by Johnnie Walker and as he is only doing the 70's show now, it gets no air play at all. It is a cracking, foot tapping, make you smile tune and is just PERFECT for 5.07 on a Friday.
Having had the January glums all week, I am feeling chipper and chirpy today. Can you tell?
Back later - project plans to print.

I did have the idea that for my ARF today I would request the song that was Number 1 on the day she was born. But I looked it up, and it was 'I will always love you' by Whitney Houston. Which won't do at all.
So instead, can I go for a nice upbeat (and not 70s rock) number:
UPTOWN GIRL by Billy Joel
#2 That should guarantee you NOT getting the ARF, Julia!

Funnily enough, I was thinking about my ARF in the shower this morning, as you do, and I did seriously think of either Friday I'm Love or In Between Days by The Cure.
But then I got to thinking about next week. Mr and MrFantasticRolastic are going for a midweek middle aged mosh of our own (albeit seated - it's out age!) to see the amazingly wonderful The Cult in Wolverhampton.
Now, THE one toon that gets me up and dancing at any event is
She Sells Sanctuary
but I figured it wouldn't get chosen as Simon seems a bit averse to Goth stuff. So, in the interests of keeping it rock, keeping me happy and starting the weekend with one of the best ever geeeeetar riffs to be laid down on vinyl, I'm going for
L'IL DEVIL - THE CULT
and then, when it doesn't get chosen, I am pretty sure that Ian Astbury will sing it to be next Weds night anyhooo!
And, we all really want to be "living in a shack in a one horse town" on a Friday night!
Come on l'il devil, be my l'il angel!!!

Chickenless Soup? I'm suddenly glad of the excellent mobile catering van we have near us. Today is known as "dirty Friday" in our office. We're good all week, but Friday and it's up to the van.
Today's choice was a freshly cooked BLT with onions and (no Simon) mayo in a french stick. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Tonight's meal is now Special K.....or more likely a sausage casserole!

Skeeve, don't taunt me with your BLT!!
I am now going to embark on my "Pot of Grapes" from same establishment as the chickenless soup. The pot is see-through so I am glad to confirm that it DOES contain grapes.
Any answers to my revolving door question? I do seriously want to know!

The ever useful Wikipedia. Check out the Construction section... :-)
Off to the shops now. Time to get a 40th card for a friend who is older than me and is about to get two months of constant digging until I catch up... ;-)

No doubt about it - he will! But it'll be fun while it lasts...I'm also five days older than another friend, and for five days I will get email, texts and phone calls with generally two words: old git.
It's all a bit of fun and happens every year. We've decided to relive our youth and planned a boys' weekend away to Magaluf in July to celebrate. It'll be messy but very funny, particularly when you see 10 sad 30/40 somethings headed for the foam party...but that said, one of our dads is going and he's 66. Can't wait!

I have just phoned Mr P to impart my new knowledge on the subject of revolving doors. I suspect he is still laughing at me.
I am going to read the article again and a trip to City Hall is now on the cards.

ARF - someone last week suggested Joey Ramone's version of What a Wonderful World and I'd like to 2nd that for this week. Didn't get the job I was just interview for, v disappointed - this would cheer me up and remind me of the good things in life.
PS. Simon - despite my blog name has an 'n' at the end, I've never spelt dilemma with one

Are you moonlighting in Milton Keynes this afternoon? I've just come back from a quick visit to Tesco's and the car next to me had the number plate M155 MTF.
Now I wonder why I saw that and thought of you...!?!?

Yeah - as last week's opener was a THIRD! time ARFO [Who - Won't get fooled ..] perhaps we stand more chance if we ask for the other two tracks that have been ARFO's twice.
I have a hunch it might be an Eagles choon tho ..
