Your Tour experiences:
I rode up this during last years Etape du Tour, its whimperingly steep, and at the time it was hot enough to melt the road. I had to walk a bit and found my cycling shoes were just slipping on the wet tarmac.
Geoff Sibbald, Basingstoke
A couple of mates & I climbed the Col du Tourmalet last week, minutes after the tour had passed through. The heat & atmosphere was incredible and it is one of the best climbs i've done, although climbing L'Alpe d'Huez last year will take some beating. Hats off to the pros.
Mark Simpson, Chatham
Col de Marie Blanc will be a tough one, especially with the forecast temperature. It's much steeper approaching it like they will today, than from the other side and the gradient is relentless. My all time top speed on a bike was achieved descending from East to West!
Matt, St Quentin en Yvelines, France
I climbed the Col de Marie Blanque many years ago and a short distance from the top my chain snapped throwing me off into a bush and cutting my leg badly. I had to free wheel down with blood pouring down my leg. I still have the scars now!!
James White, Poole, Dorset
I rode up the Col de Marie Blanque as a student in the Indurain era. It took me four hours as the rain and fog descended. The bike and shoes still sit proudly in the garage.
Iain Appleyard, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
A small team from London climbed the Col de Marie Blanque while cycling the 200k Q in the Quebrantahuesos (Spanish Pyrenees) it's tough and very steep at 14-16% for 1.5k and when it hot you have to make sure you don't stop! I bet the Tour zooms up it!!
Charlie Wilson, United Kingdom London
