Stage one profile
The sprinters in the peloton will get their first chance to go for glory on the first full stage of this year's race.
Your Tour experiences:
I have just spent the day on the final slopes of the Joux Plan. Having watched many Tour stages from the roadside I can say that this was by far the best days racing I have seen. Vive Le Tour!

Ashley Holland comments (see below) that Kehl was being cleaned up for the Tour. All towns on the Tour route make a great effort, and that applies particularly to Strasbourg this year, as it's the focus for both the prologue and the first stage.
The figure of 100,000 Euros has been bandied around as representing what it's costing the city to host the Tour. But it's considered money well-spent. Strasbourg is getting media exposure that would be the envy of any PR company.
Let's just hope the Tour can clean up its act as well as Kehl cleans up its streets, and that this year's Tour will not go down in the annals as the biggest drugs bust ever.

I work in Kehl, right next to this year's route as it crosses back in to France from Germany. The town was being cleaned up on Friday morning and hanging baskets of flowers now line the route. I wonder if there will be taken down afterwards!
Ashley Holland, Scherwiller, France
The winner will be whoever beats the tactics of the Quickstep team and the steamtrain finish of the world champion, Tom Boonen. Boonen has his name all over the flat stages and if he doesn't fall (three times) and retire from the race like last year he will be favorite for the stage win.
