Ryan Wigglesworth
An acclaimed conductor, composer and pianist, Ryan Wigglesworth (Chief Conductor, 2022-present) is one of the foremost artists of his generation. BBC Proms appearances have included the UK Premiere of György Kurtág’s opera 'Endgame', Beethoven’s Ninth and Third Symphonies, and a "revelatory" (Bachtrack) performance of Harrison Birtwistle's 'Earth Dances'.
At the 2025 Proms, the orchestra gave the world premiere of a BBC commission by Wigglesworth, 'for Laura, after Bach' - a work dedicated to the memory of the BBC SSO's former Leader Laura Samuel.
The orchestra embarked on its first international tour with Ryan Wigglesworth to the vibrant cities of Seoul and Busan in South Korea with soloists including violinist Daniel Lozakovich and cellist Jaemin Han.
