วันนี้เราจะมาฝึกวิธีพูดสอบถาม เพื่อขอข้อมูลเป็นภาษาอังกฤษกันนะคะ มาฟังสามบทสนทนาสั้น ๆ ระหว่างอดัม และผู้พูดอีกสามคนค่ะ ไม่ต้องกังวลหากฟังไม่เข้าใจทั้งหมดนะคะ เดี๋ยวมีคำอธิบายให้ค่ะ แต่ในการฟังครั้งแรก ให้สังเกตว่าอดัม รู้จักกับคนที่พูดด้วยหรือไม่ และมีตัวช่วยด้วยค่ะ วลี ‘the nearest supermarket’ แปลว่าซุปเปอร์มาร์เก็ตที่อยู่ใกล้ที่สุดนะคะ

Woman 1
Oh, yes. Turn down here on the left, then…

Adam
Hello! Sorry to bother you. Do you know where the nearest supermarket is, please?

Man
Yes, I do. Go straight down here, then…

Adam
Hi there. Can you tell me where the nearest supermarket is, please?

Woman 2
Yes, of course I can. It’s just down here on the…

คิดว่าอดัม รู้จักคนคู่สนทนาที่เขาถามไหมคะแซม

Sam
No, I think he was talking to strangers, people he didn’t know. So he was being very polite.

Clare
ใช่ค่ะ เขาพูดอย่างสุภาพ ‘polite’ แซมคะ แล้วอดัมใช้วลีใดบ้าง เพื่อตั้งคำถามอย่างสุภาพคะ

Sam
Well, he used ‘please’ a lot! And also ‘excuse me’ and ‘sorry to bother you’ in a polite voice or intonation.

Clare
ใช่ค่ะ เขาใช้วลีเหล่านี้เพื่อเรียกคนอื่นนะคะ

Sam
Absolutely! And then he asked for the same thing, but in three different ways.

Clare
มาฟังคำถามแรกอีกครั้งว่าเขาขึ้นต้นประโยคว่าอย่างไรคะ

Where’s the nearest supermarket, please?

Clare
เขาขึ้นต้นประโยคว่า ‘Where’s...’ ซึ่งประกอบด้วยคำว่า ‘where’ และ ‘is’ จากนั้นก็ตามด้วยสิ่งที่ต้องการถามถึง
หรือเราจะใช้คำอื่นนอกเหนือจาก ‘where’ ก็ได้นะคะ

Yeah, you can say ‘What’s the nearest supermarket?’ or ‘Which is the nearest supermarket?’
Shall we practise the pronunciation? Repeat after me:

Where’s the nearest supermarket, please?
What’s the nearest supermarket, please?
Which is the nearest supermarket, please?

Thank you, Sam! คำถามของอดัม นั้นสุภาพและเป็นคำถามโดยตรงหรือ direct question แต่ในภาษาอังกฤษยังมีวิธีถามทางอ้อม หรือ indirect question ด้วยค่ะ ฟังอีกทีนะคะ จะสังเกตว่าส่วนที่สองของคำถามทั้งสองประโยคเหมือนกัน แต่การขึ้นต้นต่างกันค่ะ

Do you know where the nearest supermarket is, please?
Can you tell me where the nearest supermarket is, please?

Ok ประโยคแรก ขึ้นต้นด้วย ‘Do you know where…?’ ‘คุณรู้ไหมว่า... อยู่ที่ไหน’

Sam
And the second question started with ‘Can you tell me where…?’

Clare
แปลว่า ‘บอกฉันได้ไหมว่า... อยู่ที่ไหน’
และเขาลงท้ายทั้งสองคำถามอย่างไรคะ?
ฟังเสียงแซม เพื่อฝึกออกเสียงตามและสังเกตให้ดีว่า คำกริยา ‘is’ อยู่ตรงไหนนะคะ

Ready? Repeat after me:
Do you know where the nearest supermarket is, please?
Can you tell me where the nearest supermarket is, please?

สังเกตไหมคะ ในประโยคคำถามทางอ้อม คำกริยา ซึ่งในกรณีนี้คือ ‘is’ จะอยู่หลังสิ่งที่ถามถึงค่ะ
ต่อไปให้ฝึกพูดกันต่อนะคะ ให้แต่งประโยคถามคนแปลกหน้าว่าห้องน้ำ ‘the toilet’ อยู่ที่ไหน โดยขึ้นต้นว่า ‘where’ และอย่าลืมใช้คำว่า ‘please’ ด้วยนะคะ จากนั้นเปรียบเทียบคำตอบกับเสียงแซมค่ะ

ดีมากค่ะ ต่อไป ให้ถามหาห้องน้ำอีกครั้ง แต่คราวนี้นำ ‘is’ ไปไว้หลัง ‘the toilet’ นะคะ พูดให้ทันก่อนได้ยินเฉลยนะคะ

Do you know where the toilet is, please?

Clare
Good! หรือจะพูดแบบนี้ก็ได้ค่ะ ‘Can you tell me where the toilet is, please?’ แค่นี้ก็เข้าใจวิธีพูดสอบถามข้อมูลอย่างสุภาพแล้วนะคะ
