समजा भिंतीवरचा कोळी पटकन तुमच्या अंगावर पडला तर? किंवा बागेत फेरफटका मारताना अचानक साप समोर आला तर? तर पाहिलं म्हणजे आपण घाबरू. आज या घाबरण्याबद्दलच बोलणार आहोत. ही वाक्यं ऐका.

I'm scared of spiders.

I'm really frightened of snakes.

Horror movies are scary.

I'm absolutely terrified of heights.

ते बोलतायत त्यांच्या भितीबद्दल, त्यांच्या घाबराण्याबद्दल. आता ही वाक्य कशी वापरायची ते सॅम सांगेल. सॅम?

Let's do it! Let's start with person number one – she used the adjective 'scared' after 'I'm'.

Tejali
ती सांगतीये 'spiders' बद्दल म्हणजे कोळी. आता 'scared' आणि 'spiders' च्या मध्ये कुठला शब्द आलाय?

I'm scared of spiders.

Tejali
ऐकलंत? एक छोटासा शब्द 'of'. हा शब्द नेहमी विशेषण आणि नामाच्या मध्ये येतो. हो ना सॅम?

Yes! Let's try saying the whole sentence. Repeat after me, please:

I'm scared of spiders.

Tejali
आता पुढचं ऐकू. तो सापाबद्दल सांगतोय. त्याला सापाची भीती वाटते. पण त्याने 'scared of' वापरलं नाहीये. पण मग त्याने काय म्हटलं? ऐका.

Example
I'm really frightened of snakes.

Sam
It was 'frightened of', which is another way to say 'scared of'. And like 'scared of' you need to use the verb 'to be', so 'I'm really frightened of snakes'. Let's quickly practise that. Repeat after me:

I'm really frightened of snakes.

And what does 'really' mean here?

'Really' चा वापर 'very' म्हणजे खूप या अर्थानेही करता येतो. मला खूप भीती वाटते. यातून विशेषणाबद्दल आणखी ठासून सांगता येतं. आपण असं करू ना, आपण हे पुढचं वाक्य ऐकू. त्यात कुठले शब्द वापरलेत त्याकडे लक्ष द्या. त्या मुलाला उंचीची भीती वाटते.

I'm absolutely terrified of heights.

त्याने वापरलं 'terrified of', म्हणजे त्याला खूपच जास्त भीती वाटते. आणि त्याने ही भावना आणखी गडद करण्यासाठी 'absolutely' वापरलं... 'really' सारखंच.

Sam
Yes, and notice that, again, we have the verb 'to be' and we use 'of' before the noun. Let's practise this together:

I'm absolutely terrified of heights.

आता शेवटची व्यक्ती काय म्हणाली ते ऐकू ती 'horror movies' बद्दल बोलतीये. Horror म्हणजे भीतीदायक. यात कुठलं विशेषण वापरलय त्याकडे लक्ष द्या.

Did you hear it? She said 'scary', and the adjective was at the end of the sentence.

आपल्याल्या ज्याबद्दल भीती वाटते, त्याबद्दल बोलताना 'scary' वापरतात. जसं की 'horror movies'. अशा प्रकारची वाक्यरचना करताना ज्याबद्दल भीती वाटते त्याने सुरुवात करायची आणि मग 'to be'चं योग्य रूप वापरून पुढे scary वापरायचं.

शाबास! आता समजा तुम्हाला सापांची खूपच जास्त भीती वाटते इथे तुम्हाला वापरायचंय काय, साप म्हणजे 'snakes'.

I'm absolutely terrified of snakes.

Tejali
Good! आता तुम्हाला सांगायचं आहे 'horror movies’, भयपटांबद्दल. योग्य विशेषण काय आठवतंय ना

Horror movies are scary.

Tejali
Do you agree, Sam?

Actually, yes! I'm not scared of anything else, but I think horror films are very scary!

Tejali
