OK, so they both started with 'sorry'. You can just say 'sorry', or 'I'm sorry', or say it as a question, like this: 'Sorry?'

OK, so वाक्याची सुरुवात झाली  'I didn't quite…' ने आणि त्यात 'get' आणि 'catch', ही क्रियापदं वापरली. यांचा वापर समजणे या अर्थाने होतो.

Yes, and you can, of course, simply say 'I didn't quite understand'. Shall we explain what 'quite' means in this situation?

Yes, इथे 'quite' म्हणजे पूर्णपणे या अर्थाने वापरलंय आहे. ब्रिटीश लोक थेटपणे बोलणं पसंत करत नाहीत. त्यामुळे ते बोलताना 'quite' चा वापर करतात.

Exactly! So when we say 'I didn't quite get that', we're really saying 'I didn't completely understand what you said'. Let's practise that - please repeat after me.

आता इथे बघा , एकच प्रश्न दोन प्रकारे विचारला आहे. सुरूवात  'Could you…' किंवा 'Could you please…', ने केलीये आणि पुढे 'repeat that' किंवा  'say that again', असं म्हटलंय.

And you can add 'more slowly' at the end. Let's quickly practise together - please repeat after me.

Could you please say that again?

Did you notice that we use 'could you' and not 'can you' in these questions? 'Can you' is correct, but 'could you' is a little more polite.

आता वेळ झालीये सरावाची. समजा कोणीतरी तुम्हाला रस्ता विचारला. पण त्यांनी एवढ्या पटकन विचारलं की ते काय बोलतायत ते तुम्हाला समजलं नाही. काय म्हणाल अशा वेळी? सांगा बरं.
