A seem ter 'ave a 'abit of putting me foot well and truely in it with people.... An incident early in the year that pops inter me mind was at work when a came ter work with a docs sick note saying light duties only!!!!!!!!!!

A was sent 'ome with the nasty manager saying 'we don't 'ave light duties 'ere!!!'

They do.... Some drivers with medical conditions get special duties... A few even get ter park their car right by the entrance 500 yards from the 'uge car park as they say they can't walk that far!!!!!!!

A was recovering from another bad back and could easily walk that far so was more than capable of walking from the car park!!!!!!!

Unfortunately this story a was telling to a fellow driver in the canteen...... Saying there seems ter be one rule for one and one for another!!!!!!!

The driver in question was one of the couple out of 400 who does park 'is caqr next ter the entrance..... WHOOOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Put me foot in it there and 'e now doesn't even say 'ello ter me anymore!!!!!!!



Mind you people are so over sensitve.... A wasn't 'aving a go at 'im just stating me case that a was more than able ter work on light duties!!!!!!

Whilst supping my tea, watching the birds in the garden, we had a greater spotted woodpecker arrive. We have a eucalyptus tree which is losing it's bark and the woodpecker came along to root out any stray insects (and strip any loose bark off at the same time).



That's only the second time I've seen a woodpecker in the garden - beautiful bird.

It's part-time John reporting for duty. We're only halfway through half-term here - who needs 2 weeks in October, when an extra week in May or July would be so much better?



I had the pleasure of driving back to London yesterday, and managed to time it so we left just before 5, so I heard the whole "episode" in the car. (Radio in the car is just the best place to listen). Great chattage, delicious cassoulet recipe, and some lovely toons played, even though "growth" was generously interpreted! Loved the Beatles choice, Zoe.



And well done to whoever got a mensh for Cher the other day - love that song!



As the reigning King, I'm not sure I should be making another ARFO auggestion. But, as there's no chance of it being played, I may as well go for it. And whoever gets the crown today, is King or Queen for an extra hour this weekend!!

#34 DeeBee - I was also out at dusk last night & a huge V-formation flew over Cleckhuddersfax on their way west to overnight feeding sites. The only place I can think of was Martin Mere (has starred in Autumnwatch - brill) but that's way out west from Yorkshire. Unless it's as the goose flies.......



#13 Parsley - the Bowline is an essential knot for boaties as well. A lot of tie up places have cleats to tie up to or on Windermere wooden jetties. Scouting associations have mostly been given up now due to age.



Sorry to hear about the 'Garden Grab' That was a lovely cluster of trees at the bottom of the garden.

#44 - Lady_S - I stand corrected on the bowline front. It makes sense, though, it is designed not to slip. The trees were left after the houses were built, but were later found to be diseased (after they didn't leaf), so down they came. No more squirrels or owls now, although I have had buzzards overhead on a few occasions. They are at least safe from the cat, which is more than can be said for some of the collared doves.



Sorry to hear about your dad's situation, but your gain with the car (not that that really compensates). Please pass on my regards.

I was also a Hospital Radio voluenter, (Radio Metro at Leigh Infirmary) In fact thats where hubbs and I met. On my first day there, I knocked a stack of CD's over. They crashed onto the control desk sending us 'off air' untill we found which button they hit. If you ask me a button to do such a thing shouldent be on the control desk in the first place! I did contenplate not going back after such a start, but am mighty glad I did :-)

Pompoms finally finished. Light snack being prepared - well, they'll be getting party food later. Then onto dressing, applying make-up and doing hair before they head off for the Hallowe'en party at 5.30. Daughter - ghost bride complete with cobwebs, spiders and a single faded red rose. Son - evil baseball bat weilding clown (hence pompoms). No bought costumes for us, a right cobbled together affair (which is why it takes so long to sort out).

Sal, I've been meaning to thank you for the link to the American dentist talking about options for bridges.



I certainly learnt soemthing I didn't know about bridges - I'd heard of them, of course, but wasn't sure about how they 'worked'. Thankfully, the work he carried out last week is still holding so I've been given a bit of a reprieve until a decision has to be made.

Yup, well I'll take their word on that one, having just whizzed down to the sea, to have a look, definitely a day for admiring the clear views from the warmth of the car, rather than out cycling in it.



So, its to the top of the highest hill, scope, binocs and a hearty picnic, possibly a flask of soup. For some reason, I always think soup tastes so much better, when poured from a flask.



Off we go.

Well, Mr was right - it did, and is still, 'doing' something - one minute there are blue skies, sunshine etc. and the next, the heavens open....................... with no warning.



And it is cold.



A day for staying firmly inside, we have decided.
