Not your average breakfast really. Usual yogurt etc but while watching a film? This is the kind of madness inhabited by my friend Mark but then he is a critic. It's a strange morning when you are ferrying from school lunch bag, to breakfast table, to movie watching. Fortunately nothing inappropriate happened on screen to embarrass anyone and underline the temporary loss of radio entertainment. This is what happens when last minute guests get added for the film show and a rapid catch up is called for, but there is a hint of decadence about watching a film before, say,10am. Maybe it is the old protestant work ethic here but this time of day is for hard graft (school run, reading the paper, going to the gym etc) not namby-pamby media consumption. Still, the job has to be done and when I finish blog scribblings, I shall return to Liberal Arts starring Josh Radnor who guests on the movie show today. Hardly the full cinematic experience ('Dad come and get rid of this spider/where's my phone/can you drop me at the tube') but it looks good so far.

Then to R2 and the mighty ARF taking to the airwaves. Today we will only accept track suggestions from 1971. David Hepworth has suggested this was the high water mark of the rock album (Hunky Dory, Sticky Fingers, Every Picture Tells A Story, Pink Floyd's Meddle, Elton John's Madman Across the Water, Who's Next and Led Zeppelin IV) so lets get some 1971 action on. Your choice welcome of course.

Have a glittering and sparkly Friday, see you after 2 and 5

    Morning all, anyone?

Don't tell anyone but I've got a little minute to come on here and scrawl! Only to find out that I need to do homework before making any suggestions - suspect I'll not get it done in time before mad rush takes over again. Excuses at the ready.....dogs ate it, little brother scribbled on it, I did have it but tthe wind blew it out of my bag on the way......

    Laters maybe...........

  • Comment number 2.

OOer, I don't like these 'limited' ARFO's. My music knowledge is not good enough so research is required.

    And tea.

  • Comment number 3.

    Good Morning again -

    A 1971 ARFO?

    T REX?

    HOT LOVE?

    GET IT ON?

    JEEPSTER?

  • Comment number 4.

Ooh, ooh sir, can we have

    AMERICAN PIE - Don McLean

please? One of it's release dates was 1971, don't know where but says so on that tinternet.

    *much excitement*

  • Comment number 5.

Right. I've had a quick look and the first song that popped up was

    MAGGIE MAY - ROD STEWART

which would seem to fit all Lord Ammo's previous criteria for an ARFO so that will be my choice.

    JW

  • Comment number 6.

Good Morning Simon and Blog Troops

1971? I had to do a little research for this

BROWN SUGAR - THE ROLLING STONES

    or

    CHIRPY CHIRPY CHEEP CHEEP?

  • Comment number 7.

I HEAR YOU KNOCKING - Dave Edmunds

    *getting cocky now*

  • Comment number 8.

Morning your Lordship, team, NYM and conscientious bloggers,

And there I was, primed to suggest John Barry's James Bond theme tune which first appeared in Doctor No 50 years ago today....

    1971? Hmmmmm......

CHANGES - David Bowie (Why is Bowie not played more on the radio?)

SMOKE ON THE WATER - Deep Purple

(Recorded in 1971, but released in 1973. May not count, more thinking required*)

    *= more coffee

  • Comment number 9.

    Morning all

My musical knowledge is limited too, Jennie - research suggests:

THE RESSURECTION SHUFFLE - Ashton, Gardner & Dyke

    fits the criteria.

Thank you Simon and NYM for my mention yesterday, it should, by rights, have been Billie's but thank you anyway!

  • Comment number 10.

Oooh, I found another 2 possibilities....

    GRANDAD - CLIVE DUNN

ERNIE (THE FASTEST MILKMAN IN THE WEST) - BENNY HILL

  • Comment number 11.

    Good morning everyone

Songs from 1971.... hmmm... I think Shona's cracked it today!!!

WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN ~ The Who

    BABA O'RILEY ~ The Who

STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN ~ Led Zeppelin

PROUD MARY ~ Ike and Tina Turner

    KNOCK THREE TIMES ~ Dawn

  • Comment number 12.

I'd forgotten about this one ...

BRIDGET THE MIDGET - Ray Stevens

It amused me back then when I was 10!

    T x

  • Comment number 13.

If 1971 is the high water mark of the rock album, then it must be:

ROCK 'N' ROLL - Led Zeppelin

    Good day all

    JBG

  • Comment number 14.

#10 Shona - you beat me to it!

  • Comment number 15.

GT&T was also released in 1971, but somehow I don't think it works for the ARFO!

  • Comment number 16.

    Good morning all!

1971 ARFO? I would love to hear:

LIFE ON MARS by DAVID BOWIE

Happy Friday Simon and fine folk of the blog

1971 was indeed a fine year!

    WILD NIGHT - Van Morrison

  • Comment number 19.

    Morning All,

    ARF suggestion

    'Stay With Me' The Faces

    Have a good day everybody

  • Comment number 20.

Has anyone found the captial E that Simon dropped this morning?

  • Comment number 21.

Just hear Adele singing the new Bond song. It is keeping with tradition of being very James Bondy. I can almost see the silhouttes of the dancing ladies

  • Comment number 22.

    'Layla' Derek & the Dominos

  • Comment number 23.

    Good Morning All;

I had a monumental breakfast fail by eating a pack of Munchies, not good at all!

1971, eh? I wasn't even a glint in the milkman's eye then, but fortunately I do love 70s music.

Is there any point in choosing anything other than 'Won't Get Fooled Again' - The Who, or a Led Zeppelin track? I do hope so.

    My ARFO suggestions...

LOVE HER MADLY - THE DOORS

    TINY DANCER - ELTON JOHN

  • Comment number 24.

2 fields to visit today and the sun is shining so it can't be all that bad.

Good luck with the ARFO today and I'll catch you later.

    Shona X

  • Comment number 25.

    I'd like to just add...

REASON TO BELIEVE - ROD STEWART

Into the mix, because Maggie May probably gets more airplay, but I personally prefer this track.

  • Comment number 26.

So its 1971 ARFO, I am a more 1967 person but thats mainly coz I'm old.

    Selections for today

    ROUNDABOUT - YES

THEME FROM SHAFT - ISAAC HAYES

RIDERS ON THE STORM - THWE DOORS

    Enjoy the day

  • Comment number 27.

#21 Shona, Janice Long played Adele's song last night at the start of her programme and she invited listeners to comment on it and as many disliked it as liked it. Some said it was typical of a Bond theme and others found it boring and not memorable enough, like songs such as Thunderball and Goldfinger are. I think Emeli Sandie would make a good job of writing and recording a Bond song.

  • Comment number 28.

Good Morning Simon, Team and Blogpoppets

Bit late to the party today, but no ARFO suggestions as at five-oh-five I will be sitting in Gatwick airport waiting for my flight to Aberdeen... Really looking forward to a weekend with the lovely Mo. And also looking forward to seeing Deacon Blue tomorrow night!

    ~X~

  • Comment number 29.

A couple more before I head out.

    LAUNDROMAT - Rory Gallagher

UNDER MY WHEELS - Alice Cooper

  • Comment number 30.

If Deebee is around, I hope you enjoy Deacon Blue this weekend in Aberdeen, with your friend Mo. I have to wait until Monday night to see them, at the Usher Hall.

  • Comment number 31.

#28 and #30... I need an edit button! Had I refreshed before typing my message, I would have seen Deebee's message!!! Have a great weekend, Deebee! :o)

  • Comment number 32.

Further thoughs on 1971, I do enjoy a bit of prog rock, hence Yes selection above, would like to add

BACK STREET LUV - CURVED AIR

and a classic folk/roots song but it might be a bit to slow for a regular ARF Opener

THE NIGHT THE DROVE OLD DIXIE DOWN - JOAN BAEZ

Mrs Vildeen and I watched The Choir yesterday evening in awe of how the individuals are moulded into a single unit. This was particularly relevant to the 2 of us as we had just returned from our local choir practice which is held in a nearby village hall and is conducted all in French. We have started on the 'seasonal' songs for our performances in December and whilst a number of the tunes are very familiar it is often very difficult not to drift into the English lyrics when singing

  • Comment number 33.

    FUNNY FUNNY - THE SWEET?

  • Comment number 34.

Morning! Sorry for last post - I am not Mrs Grumpy Sneezycross any more. All better. Can speak again, yippee!

Hope everyone is well and will have a good weekend ahead of them. Hope Deebee and Mo enjoy Deacon Blue.

    Anyway, two suggestions from me:

    FUNNY FUNNY - THE SWEET

or, perhaps more appropriately as it's Friday:

JOY TO THE WORLD - THREE DOG NIGHT

    See you soon x

Ps. Still catching up on shows from earlier in the week - very behind - belated congrats for menshes to KatyM and MollyCoddle. More will follow I am sure, as I continue to listen again.

  • Comment number 35.

OK, scrap my last post - just read back - some fab suggestions - surely it will be a blogger crown again this week?!

(Although I always did like Joy to the World)

  • Comment number 36.

Any track from the album INNER MOUNTING FLAME by the MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA, please.

ROD STEWART's version of I KNOW I'M LOSING YOU is great, too.

  • Comment number 37.

    Hope everyone's okay...

Was going to suggest T Rex - Hot Love (number one on the day I was born), but as that's already been done, how about:

John Kongos - He's Gonna Step On You Again

    Neil Diamond - I Am...I Said

Pioneers - Let Your Yeah Be Yeah

    Blue Mink - Banner Man

    TTFN!

  • Comment number 38.

    ISAAC HAYES - Shaft

ARETHA FRANKLIN - I've Been Loving You Too Long

    STATUS QUO - Gerdundula(!)

  • Comment number 39.

    Morning all

I suspect Florence has sewn-up ARFO with either The Who or Led Zep; with The Faces as joint favourite. Nice to see some other suggestions from the world of 1971 - and surely if Simon's in a mischievous mood 'Ernie' should be in with a chance.

John - I totally agree with you re lack of Bowie on the radio, since Jonathan Ross left you can go weeks without hearing any, and what does get played tends to be the same ones over and over.

Gosh 1971 was a good year. I'll add a vote for something different again:

Take Me Home Country Roads - John Denver

Sentiments Mean't Of Nice Ter Mayo Mate & ALL...

    Bingo Star 'ere...

Mayo Mate - INDEED strange ter be watching movies in the morning.... It's what comes with being a top celeb in the world of top flight media and entertainment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A mesen was watching a most interesting tv programme yesterdee on aeroplane crashes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Being a keen aviation enthusiast and always wanted ter be a pilot but due to coming from a council estate background it becomes near impossible ter get ter such 'eights... literally!!!!!!!!

Anyway something that really bugs me is the number one cause of air accidents is landing gear failing... aka yer a wheel gets stuck in yer undercarriage!!!!!!!!

A was talking ter a friendly pilot at the RAF Fairford airshow in July about flying... A most nice quietly spoken bloke... Very much like meself!!!!!!!

These pilots usually are quiet intelligent types not all top gun bravado!!!!!!!!

Anyway 'e was telling me all about the training etc and with 'im it all came down ter luck and being in the correct place at the correct time!!!!!!!

    'e flies refuelling RAF craft!!!!!!!

And a got ter sit in the cockpit.... Amazing 'ow small it is at the front of a plane.... All actually faily simple ter actually fly.... Just alotta switches for alotta different things!!!!!!!!!

Which gets me ter the failing of 'ydraulics/ electrics on landing gear being the number one cause of a crash landing!!!!!!!!

It really bugs me the fact that why plane sare not built with a very simple cog and rod winding system connected from a 'atch in the floor of the cabin ter the 'ydraulic system!!!!!!!!!

A know when plane sare built the weight must be kept as low as possible.... Amazing 'ow such a giant machine is only 100 ter 140 tonnes!!!!!!!

But aluminiumn rods would weight very little and could be simple wound in an emergency by the cabin staff or second officer as a back up ter failed 'ydraulics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking on the brightside though..... Landing without wheels usually doesn't end in a serious crash.... Just drop yer knots ter absolute minimum for lift of the craft (drop speed) as yer touch the ground and then gently bring it down until it is sliding to a stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Easier said than done when most passenger jets the drop speed is 140knots/ about 160mph!!!!!!

Sunny Side Sal Up - Nice link yesterdee... On soaking people.... when driving me 44 tonne rig a NEVER soak anybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is an offence, as yer ask, yes a fineable offence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am such a nice person a never intentionally soak anyone!!!!!!!!!

In fact if ever a see somebody near the roadside and there's just the spray coming off me tyres a move out more from the kerb ter be polite and most nice!!!!!!! Most nice I am ;-))))

As for any bloggers who 'ave been soaked.... Am a strong believer in karma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If yer get soaked then yer must 'ave rocked the boat that is named karma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A mesen 'ave never been soaked in this way as a am a most nice person.... Noot that am boasting..... Just stating firm facts on the previously mentioned on the previous blog!!!!!!!!

Glad ter 'elp on aviation and puddles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment number 42.

Fine tune if yer ask me!

  • Comment number 44.

Just thought I would poop in - some bloggers may remember....

Anyway, I was 17 back then and have many happy memories, it really was a fantastic year for pop music. How about as possible ARFs:-

JIG-A-JIG East of Eden (truly folk/rock)

    FIREBALL Deep Purple

    DEVIL'S ANSWER Atomic Rooster

and I second Tortie's suggestion of RESURRECTION SHUFFLE!

  • Comment number 45.

Just spotted this link on youtube.... So, so, so many when it comes ter landing gear failing it's alot more common than yer might think... Most don't make the news as thankfully most end without injury or worse!!!!!!!

    This one at Brimingham:

    https://youtu.be/Ry48fSFPX4Y

A was talking ter a DHL pilot too at the Fairford gig.... again 'e showed me 'ow simple the actual fyling of a plane is.... It's just gettign through all the exams in training that's the difficult part!!!!!!

  • Comment number 46.

#30 #31 Thanks Florence. And I hope you enjoy Deacon Blue on Monday. I've been listening to their new album - it's really good!

#34 I'm so glad to hear you have your voice back, Hoffs. I'm guessing the junior Hoffs may not be quite so pleased though...

#41 Bingo - I really wish I hadn't read your post, as I will be getting on an aeroplane this evening. Good thing I'm not a (particularly) nervous flier...

    :o/

I'll be heading off home soon for a quick bite to eat before hitting the road. I'm hoping I'll be ahead of the Friday traffic. So in case I don't get another chance, good luck everybody with the ARFO - fingets crossed Paul gets to hand over the crown to a deserving blogpoppet.

    ~X~

  • Comment number 47.

    Just spotted two more videos:

The first clip the pilot is showing either 'ow inexperienced or over confident 'e is and very near caused the plane to flip of if the wings 'ad dug in!!!!!!!

Trying to land in such a strong cross wind is madness all!!!!!

    MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'e flying nearly sideways the wind is so strong.... Should 'ave aborted landing before 'e got anywhere near the tarmac and diverted to another airport!!!!!!!

    https://youtu.be/U1aZBju72N0

The second clip whatta difference.... Concorde!!!!!!!!!!

All Concorde pilots were older more experienced and sensible.... In this clip aborting landing at 200 feet.... Well berfore any risk of a crash!!!!!!!

    https://youtu.be/T7wmyx__l-s

Soz can yer tell am bored terdee!

  • Comment number 48.

Deebee - Just read yer post about reading me post now.... BIG SOZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But don't worry.... Flying is the safest way of travel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gettign ter the airport is 500 times more dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for flying.... Passenger planes are flown very gently for passneger comfort and fuel efficiency!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well within the capabilites of the plane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In fact a find it boring.... A enjoy the take off that only last 40 seconds from 0 ter 140 ter 160mph.... Or being stacked and 'aving ter circle in an oval or steep desent or some good turbulance.... The rest of the flight is boring.... Unless yerv gotta a 'ighly attractive indian air 'ostess looking after yer!!!!!!!

Enjoy the flight and where yer going.... Wish I was coming with you ;-))))

    PS Where are yer going?

  • Comment number 49.

Deebee - have a fabulous weekend with Mo :))

  • Comment number 50.

Oh now Simon your just being awkward arnt you... I have no idea!

Only herd the new Adel song this morning and am already singing it, some say it sounds like every other Bond song, or that it's typically Adel. Frankly I think its FAB ! Oh how I love a bit of Bond ;-)

    ~gill~

  • Comment number 51.

Maggie May by Rod Stewart please. My husband says this song reminds him of me and often sings this to me when it's on the radio. Thankfully though, he won't be home from work until 6 so I would be spared his singing and would just enjoy Rod's dulcet tones!!! Thanks.

  • Comment number 52.

    Hi Simon and everyone.

Been to review some books this morning for a private accounts job, hope they pay me when I have sorted them out!

I was 3 and 4 in 1971 so here are 2 that I know of:

    1. GYPSIES, TRAMPS AND THIEVES - Cher

    2. JOY TO THE WORLD - 3 Dog Night

Have a lovely time with Mo, Deebee. Enjoy the concert.

Bingo, dare I ask how your mission to become the next Bradley Wiggins is coming along? Did you catch the item about beetroot juice on Drivetime the other evening?

#8 & #39 JBG & Autumn_Gale, totally agree with the lack of David Bowie tuneage.

  • Comment number 56.

#46 Deebee... I am looking forward to singing along, with everyone else, to 'Dignity' on Monday night! :o))

Bingo Star, I would think it's far more scarey being a passenger in your 44-tonne truck than sitting in a plane with turbulance!! ;o)

Ave been drinking gallons of the stuff!!!!!

Florence - A fully agree.... Yer noot likely ter get cut up by an idiot in 'is Audi whilst at 36,000 feet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ave noticed on the roads the number one badly driven catr seems ter be Audis!!!!!!

ARFO from 1971? A good year for ex-Beatles this one and, given that today is 50 years since Love Me Do, it HAS to be one of them!

So, can I jump in with a very late shout for My Sweet Lord by George Harrison, which is also my wonderful wife's Karon favourite song by any of the Fab Four!

    Paul McFadyen

    Ashton-in-Makerfield

  • Comment number 69.

#68, I would also like to hear My Sweet Lord by George Harrison as I am the wonderful wife Karon he is refering to!!! Although I did ask for Maggie May by Rod Stewart earlier, but either of these songs would be great. x

  • Comment number 70.

Congrats to Queen Jillian, formerly of this parish, for today's ARFO "What is life?" by George Harrison.

That's m'lot, I'm off for the weekend. Wishing everyone a nice one,

  • Comment number 71.

Jenny & Shona - you both know far more about music than I do - my post was meant to be funny - one of the joys of here is the wide and disparate stuff we know.

  • Comment number 72.

    AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Live and let die always has that effect on me because of the poor and lazy English, one of those niggly things which just drives me mad.

'...ever changing world IN which we live IN...'

    AAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!

    Irrational?

  • Comment number 73.

    HElloooo!

#55 - Shona - disappointed that it wasn't Ernie, of course, but pleased that our Jilly got the crown.

Also, really sorry, I'm sure you won't be surprised, but #57, #58 & #65 - Make that four of us. I know now, obviously.

Finally, #72, Super-Stressed-Erica - don't worry, you aren't being irrational - I have always felt the same as you but have decided that what they are really saying is 'and in this ever changing world in which we're living...' which makes me feel slightly better. Not that I'm a pendant or anything.

Hey ho, raining here, time to batten down the hatches and put my feet up. Hope the weekend is a good one for all of you lovely bloggerfolk. See you soon x

  • Comment number 74.

Glad to hear Simonward and I are not the only the David Hepworth virgins in this Parish as John says.

Congratulations Queen Jilly getting your Sunday name for the ARFO! X

Hope everyone has a stress free evening and has a glass of cheer in their hand. The lovely Deebee and Mo will be reunited by now methinks and I just hope Deebee packed her thermals as it's going to be a chilly night.

See you through the round window. X

  • Comment number 75.

    Evening All!

I didn't know it was OUR Jilly with the ARFO! Why isn't she blogging instead of masquerading as a muggle? Ha!

#72 Erica #73 Hoffs - I thought as Erica - then as Hoffs - then I bought the sheet music for KB and the actual words are -

"But IF this ever changing world in which we live in makes you give it a cry - say live and let die!"

But that's no better is it? And as any fule know - it should be "this world in WHAT we live in."

Nobody loves a smart arse! Ha!

Here's one for you from Gary indeed - MY Gary indeed - from "Patience"

"I really wanna start over again

I know you wanna be my salvation

The one that I can always depend."

When I sing along, I always add "on" very loudly! Ha!

Going to KB some James Bond coz of the anniversary - a good excuse! It's Sausage & Mash with tinned toms - but served rather poshly - by Mr - so it's like individual

#75 Billie and Erica and Hoffs #72/73

Didn't realise we were having an impromptu Friday night gathering of the Pendants' Club!

I think Hoffs is right to change it to "living"

But what I REALLY wanted to moan about to Billie about "her" Gary, is TT's "The Flood"

"....there was more of them than us, now they'll never dance again...."

    Was??????

Well done to Jilly (thought we were going to get another ONJ track there for a moment!) on an excellent ARFO choice.

Just enjoyed a great evening, ELO might have been involved!!

    Happy Days :)

Wish I hadn't read back now, too many annoyances to consider, may not sleep.

Off to the Northumberland coast tomorrow for a week so won't be around - not that I've been around much lately anyway. Hoping to do some lovely walking and birdwatching and chilling out and de-stressing - can't wait, think 'good weather' for me, or at least dry weather. Maybe I'll be Chilled Charlie when I get back?!

    Play nicely folks.

    Night all!

Sal, have you been watching the fab programme about Jeff Lynne on BBC 4 and now a 1978 ELO concert is starting? What an absolutely talented, lovely man he is! I'm going to buy his album of all those old hits that he's taken several years, working six days a week to make, where he has played every instrument himself, BRILLIANT!

    Good Morning!

Chilly here but blue sky with sunshine breaking through.

    Good Morning!

    #77 - JBG - AAAaaarrggggghhhh! Me too!

Hope everyone has bright and sunny weather this morning, if a little chilly.

I am very excited. Am going on a special trip today. Can't wait!

    See you all later

    Morning all.

Its the concert that we were watching Flo (have got the Jeff Lynne prog to see yet, as was recorded while watching SCD.) Pre Twilight days, but what ho!

Mind you, you must have been watching on a different channel, as at 1.25 a.m, I was well tucked up.

Well, a days cycling was the original plan, but tis a tad soggy on the ground here atm, why oh why dont bikes come with mud guards fitted as standard? Not a good rear view, when splattered in muck!

So, bikes in the car and who knows, they may come out later when the ground dries up.

Off to check tide times and the like.... :)

  • Comment number 84.

OOh Hoffs, how lovely, have fun.

  • Comment number 85.

Sal, you'll love Jeff's programme... I watched it on BBC 4. What a clever, talented man he is and seems such a nice person too and he's got a beautiful home as well.

I think all bikes should come with mudguards and lights I can't understand why they don't unless the manufacturers expect you to not ride one if it's wet!

Have a nice day... the weather is lovely here and is to stay dry all weekend too! x

  • Comment number 86.

Thanks Flo, you have a nice day too.

I see its going to be a bit warmer down here, but I think an extra layer in the back pack might be a good idea.

    Fresh crab sandwiches for lunch.

    Happy Days :)

Good Morning All, from sunny Aberdeen!

First things first - congratulations to Jilly for being crowned the new ARFO Queen!! I have been in touch with Jilly elsewhere (as have a few others) - she is having a blog break at the moment for various reasons but she hopes to be back soon.

Welcome to Karon MacFadyen and husband hoggydoggy! It's not often we get couples blogging - I can only think of the lovely Deevski and her Nicrolastic, although Paul's LueyLuey has posted a few times I think.

I have heard of David Hepworth, but only because I've seen him and Simon tweeting each other.

Re 'Live and let Die' - yes, Mark Kermode mentioned this at the 5Live Bond special Zoe and I went to a few weeks ago (those of you who listen to the show will know he's a stickler for correct grammar). Can't remember exactly what he said, but he has checked it out as he thought it might actually be "world in which we're living" But no, I'm afraid his conclusion was that it is "world in which we live in". Tut tut, Mr Mac...

Stressed Erica - hope you return from your visit to Northumberland a bit less stressed...

    :o)

Off out with Mo fairly soon to sample the delights of Aberdeen. I hear it has a beach... think I might give the paddling a miss on this occasion though...

Have a good day one and all.

Good morning all - sunny but chilly here today - a lovely autumn day.

Someone was saying they had seen a large flock (?) of jays the other day and wondered if that was normal

On the news this morning, they had an item about jays over in Europe - they are hungry apparently because of a lack of acorns, their favourite food, and they are coming over here in numbers, to find food.

    JW

  • Comment number 89.

That was Hoffs, Jennie and I posted a link about the jays on Weds eve, I think.

I would love to have seen them flocking.

Have a great time Mo and Deebee.

  • Comment number 90.

Me too, Sal. They are such pretty birds. We have one which regularly visits our garden, taking peanuts to eat and bury, ready for the winter.

We also get quite a few young oak trees growing around the garden, where they have hidden acorns. We have potted some up as I hate destroying plants and we have them dotted around the garden as unfortunately, the garden is not big enough to have oak trees growing in it.

    JW

  • Comment number 91.

Not sure how correct, but its seems a group of jays can be referred to as a band or party.

    hi all

i see pick of the pops has gone back further than it has before 1956 most of the bloggers will have memories of that year lol

The weather is beautiful here today and now relaxing to POTPs - with no shout out again;(( Come on Uncle Tony!

Have a lovely time in Aberdeen ladies. I could have travelled up to meet up you today. Why didn't I think of that before? Ah well!

  • Comment number 94.

You'll get old one day Arthur Loaf- then who will be 'LOL'ing? I'll have you know that 1956 was a great year and produced a fine vintage of blogger........

Deebee and Mo are sunning themselves on the beach in October!

  • Comment number 96.

It sounds like they are having a great time, Shona! The weather has been lovely here too - but a bit nippy for sunbathing!

  • Comment number 97.

I hope Deebee and Mo have been enjoying the lovely east coast sunshine today.

It sounds like it's been nice everywhere! Lots of dinghies from our local yacht club were out this afternoon and my daft Bassets went into the water for a paddle!

    Hellooooo!

Hope everyone has enjoyed a sunny day, wherever you are. Master Hoffs and I had a lovely afternoon together in Bath. We went to a presentation by a well known author at the Childrens' Literature Festival. It was excellent. His book was about an element hunter called Itch and was Master Hoffs' favourite book of the summer holiday. The author very kindly handed out sherbert lemons to the audience and brought Dr Jon Speed 9of jelly baby confession fame) along to do some exciting chemistry experiments.

Afterwards, Master Hoffs queued to get his (rather dog-eared) book signed. I was given the important task of taking a photo of the two of them with his *Pod. So as they chatted, I stepped back to take the pic, stepping on a small child in the process who, luckily, seemed to be OK. Then I couldn't work the gadget and had to ask for help and then I went pink, smiled briefly at the author and we departed quickly. Amazingly, I didn't fall over as I left.

Simon, thank you very much for making Master Hoffs' day (and mine). He was rather overwhelmed when you asked him had he enjoyed the book (he did - especially the bit when the children escaped from the School of Mines and were captured by Flowerdew) but afterwards he was very excited about the whole experience and has proudly showed his signed copy to his brothers. He hopes that Itch will like the obsidian.

Anyway, we ended our day sitting in the sun on a wall chatting and waiting for our lift home watching the shoppers go by.

Now back home, washing sweaty rugby kit for Teen Hoffs (sorry, TMI) and looking forward to a rare evening all together.

I hope everyone has a lovely relaxed evening (apart from Deebee and Mo, of course) and that we all get more good weather tomorrow to help make it an enjoyable day. See you soon x

It sounds as if yourself and young Hoffs had a wonderful day! You kept that quiet - did young Hoffs know he where he was going and who he was going to see?

I've done it again - would be rude not to go for it - will the 3 minute rule thwart my efforts?
