Let's all go zoink

Simon Mayo|10:45 UK time, Friday, 27 July 2012

(Olympic grumps and deniers look away now)

Well you have been busy. Glad the blog's diodes (?) have been humming. Cornwall and Suffolk were wet, cold, sunny, hot and everything in between. The surf was mighty and then 'fiddlin' and small'. The chips were bountiful and the assorted illnesses which afflict holidays, rather annoying. Each morning would begin with me dutifully trying to finish off book2 at around 6.30. A couple of hours later it was time to eat breakfast with the 'continental' breakfast morphing into 'full English' without exception. The gym is calling but I shall have to ignore it for a while longer.

Post hols, it usually takes a while to get up to speed but this Olympics opening day feels like quite something; I'm arriving at optimum-speed asap. Here's hoping it'll be a wonderful party where the athletes make the headlines for all the right reasons. I think we'll be wonderful hosts and that Danny Boyle will set the tone tonight. Lets have less of Mitt Romney and more of Boris's 'geiger counter of olymo-mania going zoink'.

I have been fortunate to go to 3 games: Barcelona, Athens and Beijing and if London gets it right, there will be a feel-good factor that might be quite useful for the rest of the year. It won't be here again in our lifetimes so your Drivetime team intend to enjoy it! Starting today with your OARF opener. I don't think we can allow Chris to choose the tune as he wanted to this morning, so it's still down to you. Our very own cut-price opening ceremony.

Have an eccentric, inspired Friday. See you at 5.

    Morning everyone

So good to have Simon back. I can’t wait for DT tonight and then settling down for the opening ceremony. I am much more excited than I expected to be.

Sorry for prolonged absence, work deadlines and holidays looming combined with little self control meant avoiding the internet altogether was the only options (well except for the odd tweet but that doesn’t count). Anyway roll on Thursday when I am free (well except for compulsory family duties as our glorious leader would say).

    Have a good day everyone.

    And for the ARFO ...

    Enjoy the event

  • Comment number 28.

What's going on? So many stutters and repeated posts? Carry on regardless......perhaps that should be the OARFO?!

Anyway, my choice for the opener would be the rip roaring and very suitable

    LONDON CALLING - The Clash

As for Cornwall, the Stressed family were there for 3 weeks (back a week now, still not finished all the washing) and it rained every single day - not all day, not always torrential, and sometimes it was pushed aside for a while for thick fog instead - but I can't say it was the best holiday we've ever had, which is such a pity because Cornwall is SO beautiful. Wouldn't mind but we normally go to the Scottish islands, north or west, but decided we'd go south this year for better weather - that worked! So, any suggestions for next year? Not too hot, not too crowded, not too wet?

    Thank you.

In the meantime, we're going to enjoy the olympics. Little ones excited about staying up late for the opening ceremony and even more excited about the events we've managed to get tickets for - had to be done, once in a lifetime and all that.

She asked me to pass on a suggestion that the Drivetime Team should carry our torch into the Olympic Stadium at 5.05 this afternoon. Hey! Where's our blog?

Well all I can say is that was a whole lot of fuss about nothing. Arrived at Heathrow almost on time, not a soul in passport control apart from the people at the desks and the helpers. All with big smiles I might add. Straightforward jaunt into London & finally to my hotel. Much excitement on the flight. The Crown Prince of Norway was on board, presumably heading to the opening ceremony. Not sure Prince Charlie would have been on a scheduled flight. It didn't do us any favours having him there. We had to circle round Heathrow along with the rest.

To be honest Mo - the thought of Harry, duplicated, budgie smugglers and all - is making me feel a bit weakweak ...

#72 - and the GOLD medal goes to Mo Farahway for enduring the journey from faraway back to the UK and to her final destination this afternoon. Mo! We salute you!

(Blimey, think I've had too much sugar too?!)

#76. If you are feeling week, getting a lightheaded feeling and have the urge to dance for no reason, then we are suffering together. There are also so many new bloggers today - Harry - do you realise the effect that you are having?!

#68 Harry, you and I must be of a certain age. So sorry that Roy Castle trumpeted his last so prematurely.

#79. Two wood pigeons do not a swimmer make. Summat like that.

So fab to have Simon back properly! I hope he and the DT team will have a splendid time today - looking forward to it so much. And how I love that Mitt Romney has succeeded in uniting all Brits in outrage at his put-downs. We've all got Olympic fever and then some now! Go Boris, btw.

    #81 Ahhhh, but, WPoS:

Come rede me, dame, come tell me, dame,

My dame, come tell me truly,

What length o' graith, when weel ca'd hame,

    Will ser'e a woman duly?

The carlin clew her wanton tail,

    Her wanton tail sae ready;

    I learn't a sang in Annandale,

"A wood pigeon" will please a lady.

    Afternoon Bloglympians :)

There is a rumour going around that the Synchronised Swimming event is causing a bit of a stir?

Crowds gathering and swooning ladies. I think I need to pull up a chair and view some action ;)

I would like to ascertain, however, that no birds (be it budgie, pigeon or bald eagle) were harmed during this mammoth swimathon.

    Carry on!

    :)

Ooh, Harry, how racy. I still say that two 'woodies' can't swim, no matter how long they are. ;0)

I have just had a case of bloggus interruptus - a friend came round and doesn't understand the importance of such activities so had to pause for an hour or so!

#79 - I haven't laughed so much in ages! Not at your aspirations Harry, but the way it was written - with a slight pout of the bottom lip I feel? ;~0

I had a look at a map of the 'lympic Park today and was surprised at how close it is to our former stamping ground, Mrs Bellringing Boris. I thought it was further out and westwards towards Leyton.
