For those going to see Queen, I can say I saw them at Preston Guildhall in Dec 1975 when Bohemian Rhapsody was No 1. Outstanding. No one could ever replace Freddie Mercury, but Paul Rodgers would have done a great job while being himself. I also saw Bad Company at the same venue on their inaugural UK tour. Manchester is as near as anyone worth seeing gets nowadays.

I used to work in music publishing (as previously mentioned) and the odd groover or rocker used to attend our parties or book launches, always held at the office. Each floor had it's own kitchen for the staff who worked there, and..... you know what's coming.... at one such event I did indeed meet Jona Lewie, and it was indeed in the kitchen that we met. Suggested his song had more truth in it than novelty!

#68 - PC... re the above, used to work in music publishing etc. One of my friends had been editor of Melody Maker in New York, and remains a bit of a rock journo legend. I once asked him who the most objectionable rocker he had ever interviewed was. Who was the most nasty? He thought for a minute, and then with absolute certainty, declared "Paul Rogers". I could explain further, but might get modded. Let's just say he didn't like him very much!

#56 amelia - Glad you like the interview :) I think Simon said on Twitter, that his breakfast audience over on Radio 1, was in the region of 11 million listeners, so better than Moyles, and Chris Evans, come to that! Mind you, radio figures of today, are probably subject to the same provisos as TV figures, i.e it's a different environment now for the consumer, with the internet etc. So I'm sure industry folk would say that it isn't a like for like comparison.



#66 & #67 Fair enough, and no apology needed. I usually always read Simon's blog first, before I jump in, but each to their own.



I'm not up to doing anything today, I started with a sore throat and snuffles last night, and I feel dreadful now :( Hot lemon and honey, and a rest is the order of the day, I think.

#72 - interesting to hear. Still has a great voice. I suspect there are many celebrities of this ilk that we would find were not as we would like them to be if we ever met them. Partly the individual and partly the environment in which they exist. Not our 'normal' world at all.

#76 - PC - absolutely! Rogers had (maybe still has) the most wonderful voice, and Free had a wonderful feel to them. Amazing, because they were only about eight years old when they made their first records! I can't imagine One Direction ever coming up with My Brother Jake, but they weren't far off being about the same age. Even Feel Like Making Love era Bad Company were great. Actually, he tried to chat up Mrs B&B on a beach in St Tropez when she was about 16... I'd forgotten that! Well, I say "tried to"... he DID chat up Mrs B&B and her friend, but he failed to get anywhere with them. She must have been saving herself for me!

Have not read back yet - hoping to do so soon - just off out to take the bigger Hoffs boys to find an Olympic torch as they have yet to see it.



I know that 3 worders aren't picked up from the blog but just wanted to say that mine would be:



FISHERMEN'S FRIENDS DISAPPOINTMENT



Most years, the Hoffs family team up with Granny and SF Hoffs to go to Cornwall. When we go, the finale of the week is on a Friday evening, sitting on the Platt in Port Isaac, listening to the Fishermen's Friends singing live. We have, really sadly, discovered that for the first time in many years, they aren't going to be able to do it next Friday when we are there because of an unusually high tide. Obviously nothing they can do about it, but cue much disappointment amongst the Hoffs family. Hey ho. Will just have to play the CD in the car instead!



Otherwise, just wanted to wish you all a great summer - I am backing away from the blog now as obviously I need to be with the Hoffs boys for their summer holiday. I will lurk when possible and if the theme is an easy one, we might all club together in this family and come up with some suggestions. I hope that you all stay safe, that Lilac Blue in particular continues to recover and look forward hopefully to seeing you all again later in the year. Thanks for your friendship over the last few months, and particularly during the depths of winter, when our time away with my parents next week looked like it would never happen.
