Who's That Girl?
Lousy weather around the estate, howling gales and the central heating pumping away nicely. Apparently if it carries on like this for 4 months, the water shortage will be over. So much to look forward too! We all enjoyed being back on Drivetime yesterday-that's drivetime where you drive cars. The woman on the lottery show who mucked up the 25K question as to who took over DT 2 years ago and plumped for Steve Wright has had plenty of time to regret her radio listening choices. I got so many messages from viewers who were wondering whether it was a compliment or not and I'm still not sure. I think I felt Dale's quiet despair...
Loved being back yesterday and we will love today too with one of the most remarkable new voices around. When Ren Harvieu sings, heads turn. Her song Through the Night was such a wonderful debut and I've been looking forward to her album ever since. And get this. She was born in 1990. I know, me too. If you saw her on BBC Introducing you'll know she can cut it live with stylish aplomb. Considering she broke her back just before the album was due to be released, we should be grateful she's here at all. Ren after 6.
And oldies I think for NATIONAL GARDENING WEEK which is this week. Ha! Fat chance. But it may well be better with you. Songs for the greenfingered please.
Have a fine and dandy Tuesday, see you after 5

No oldie suggestions from me today, but lots of great songs suggested above, I see.
On the gardening - The mister has just returned from his allotment, and has declared his brassicas to be a fine sight to behold! He lost a few things to frost last week, but nothing too serious, so we have high hopes for the rest. I have my fingers crossed for his cucumbers, because after a bumper crop in 2010, we barely had one decent one last year :(
I think I'm joining the ranks of the achy blogpoppets, as my back has decided to give me gyp. I think it needs some gentle exercise, and all being well the mister and I will be popping out to Hathersage tomorrow, for a bit of a stroll (and for him to visit the garden centre there for some echinacea)
I need to read back properly now, as I only skimmed over, but I did see Coffeebuzz & Ladybuzz had set a date, so congratulations again to them & I hope it's a lovely summer's day for you :)

We have found a small venue in Royal Deeside for the ceremony.
If it's a nice day (i.e. not raining) we'll be outside, by the river. Otherwise there's a very cosy space indoors.
Due to the combination of location (Aberdeenshire) and timing (July), there's always a chance of rain (or sleet/snow/hail), with sunny intervals!
As they never get played, I usually don't go for 'anything by...' oldies, but I have a few rattling around in my head-loft, so I though I'd share:
*Robert Plant
*Fiona Apple
*The Stone Roses
*The Lightning Seeds
*Black Grape
*Kate Bush
*Black Eyed Peas
Off to the coffee machine....

So many exclamation marks!!!!
Jennie Wren - I agree, you should stop. We tell our boys if they don't thank it means the present will be taken away, and they won't get one next year. The Gengis Khan school of manners! And definitely for the 21 year old - otherwise you'll still be buying a Blue Peter annual for a 22 year old!
Hope those with aching bodies - Shona, Zoe, anyone else - get some relief.
Oh, and one more tune for the gardens:

We could remember that Parsley, Dill and Bayleaf the Gardener had signature tunes. We also recalled Sir Basil and Lady Rosemary but don't recall any ditties for them. And I also remembered a wise old owl, presumably called Sage, though the good Lady Driver has no such recollection.
All very short tunes in the context of suggestions. Though I suppose that if there's only 15 seconds til the news at six...

I enjoy gardening and am itching to get things going in the garden. Mr has prepared all the beds and all we are waiting for is the warmer weather and lack of frosts. I will be getting seeds going in the shed soon and potatoes will be going in the ground too.
I supply our friends with tomato plants and chilli plants which they all love growing and eating the resultant fruits of their labours.
If anyone out there has never had a go at growing things, chillis are one of the easiest and most productive plants I've ever grown. The chillis can be dried or frozen and keep us supplied for most of the year. I thought you would need a greenhouse for them but they are quite happy outside in a sunny spot. They would probably be even more productive in a greenhouse ...........worth a try!!

I am always very glad to see you wave.
But please don't shout or speak to me too harshly.
Because I'm not particularly brave.
The owl was Sage, and I think there were some chives in there as well. Not sure about songs for any of the other characters, but no doubt who the star was...

Jennie, my chillis in the greenhouse have been a failure. Nothing has come up at all. Same with tomatoes. What am I doing wrong? Or rather, what should I be doing right?

#76 #80 - Sage was the Owl and every character did have a ditty even those like Belladonna who only popped up occasionally. Still think Dill the dog may have been on a different type of herb, given his rather frantic antics!
JW - I spent 2 1/2 hours on sun doing the beds at the allotment and like you just waiting for frosts to pass as I have fruit bushes, brassicas and onions waiting to go in!
Alex G - might have been a bit cold if your greenhouse isn't heated, try starting them on windowsill inside.
Cheers

I do plant tomatoes outside in the shed but haven't done so yet as it is still cold at night - I usually plant them end of April/beginning May.

.. seriously though, and on the subject of gardens, seedling, plantlings, indoors/outdoors, etc etc. - I will be hosting a my annual Seedling Swap within a month where my friends and I get together and exchange our surplus.
Am hoping to give away some rather fine sweet pea pots [currently on my windowledge] for some dwarf beans which I haven't seeded this year. Tomatoes, capsicums and chillis I have already.
All windowledge-grown, Alex - I have neither a greenhouse nor a garage and my city garden is mainly containerised.

Plant swaps are great, we have ad hoc ones on the allotment, makes you try and grow stuff you probably wouldn't try ordinarily.

However, I am unlikely to join in as I don't have any spare bedding space in garden proper.
I do also have a roof garden but would have to use a container and am not sure I get the the strength and height required for championship growth!
