#20 Yes, Challenge TV is a channel on Sky. Not sure if it's available on Virgin Media as well, others will be able to advise.



It's besically full of game shows. It used to have a late night strand with poker programmes but they dumped that a few years ago to concentrate solely on game shows.



Simon's a good choice for it I think. I noticed that comment on the bottom of the Sun article suggesting it was cynical to bring it back following Bob's demise. Hmm, presumably that reader missed the fact that Liza Tarbuck did it for a few years on a previous return.

Massive Congrats Simon on your Blockbusters appointment. I loved that show and one of my teachers applied for me when it started in 1983. Will it be on Sky 1? If so I think I will have to bite the bullet and get Sky!



I came second and got Silver at the Northern Open Kickboxing competition near Sheffield. I lost 14 - 13 and we were level at 90 seconds and then a second left of 30 seconds she scored a point. My opponent said I worked her hard and I surprised her as I had got fast, my coach, my mate said I would have beat her if I had reached out on shots and put all my body weight forward ...massive note to self for thi evening training!

Morning all. Congratulations Simon, I think I've mentioned that it was a teenaged dream of mine to be on Blockbusters ... too old now I fear.



Grey and miserable here. The snow was 24hrs too early for me - we'd no doubt have a had a 'snow day' off school if it had been Sun/Mon rather than Sat/Sun. Instead it was a somewhat trecherous slide out of the side roads and then a slow crawl along the damp (but thankfully clear) main roads.

Spent the weekend knocking the front room to bits and peeling wallpaper. The fireplace is being replaced by a wood burning stove...that I haven't got yet. Can anyone make any recommendations? It's not being connected to the heating system or anything like that. Just to make the room cosy on a cold evening.

#26 Hi Mrs Boris, I know your part of the world very well. Born and raised in WGC, moved to just south of Cambridge about 22 years ago.



We had about 6 inches of snow, although there were drifts of up to a foot or so in the paddock. The roads are pretty good, have already tried out the snow tyres. However, our local town centre paths were treacherous this morning, not good for the old folk who were out and about.

Good afternoon all.



Sunny here in Essex and the snow is trying to thaw. Someone very kindly drove a snow plough down our side road early yesterday and cleared a path but unfortunately it has effectively made it a single lane road as the snow piled up the sides has frozen overnight into solid humps and people who didn't get out and clear their drives yesterday are working hard to clear them today!

Just got back - haven't read back yet, but wanted to say very quickly that I heard Ken Bruce saying this morning as I drove to an appointment, that Simon Mayo was moving to Skye to set up a Blockbuster Video store. Can that possibly be true? Why would you need smart suits and shoes for that?!

THE ROYAL SCAM - STEELY DAN

#75 my experience re woodburning stoves is that the chimney liner, building work around the chimney/chimneybreast (if required) and installation can be as expensive as the actual stove!!



I had a woodburner in a previous house (old school) I lived in and it was AWESOME - but you practically had to sit in the other room, so the plastic surgery did not melt! VERY hot.

We're lucky as we have a local woodburning stove centre where we went along for a recce before deciding in our current abode to make good our existing Victorian cast iron fire that had been made crappily into a gas fire that didn't work and was not safe.

It cost us about £150 to get the gas supply removed, a new basket and ash tray & the chimney swept.

I prefer the smell of burning wood, but ours takes coal (smokeless, course as we're near the city).

Hopefully you'll get to appreciate yours before the winter ends...not that I am relishing the icy blasts.

We have been enjoying the snow. I normally don't venture out in it, but country snow is so much better than city snow! We had about 6 inches but it had drifted to over a foot in places so much shovelling was required. The snow plough had helpfully left a huge pile outside our gate so that had to be moved too. Rosie has had a lovely time but the big girls have stayed firmly indoors.



#75 We had a woodburner put in at the bolt hole and have one here. Love them. We had to get a new burner here as previous people did not have the chimney lined - idiots. It was thick tar inside. As Suzieee says, budget for the liner, fitting etc costing as much as the burner itself. You would be sensible getting some guidance on what size to get - depends on your room size. #75 JustPlainAlice... it does look new as it was never played with and the bits and pieces were still sealed up. We also have a Countdown game and Family Fortunes all new and never played with! I don't think my family shared my taste in TV game-show games and have always played games like Scrabble, Monopoly, Lexicon, Pictionary and Rummikub!

Can't comment on the woodburner, I'm afraid. Would love one, but it wouldn't look right in our rather modern house. Also, like Suziee says, if we did have one our living room would be rather too warm for comfort. We do have a real fire though, mostly logs although we use a bit of coal to get it going. Lovely and cosy on a cold winter's evening!



Think I'm getting a cold... I woke up with a sore throat this morning, and it's been getting worse as the day progresses. Not great timing :o(

Hubbs's laptop has been out of service for over a week now, so I just dont get near the PC at the mo. He's in front of the TV at the mo though so I get to play.

Congrats on the birthday Mrs M senior, I had a similar situation with my 25th birthday which was on 31st Aug 1997.

Congrats also on the 'Blockbusters' gig. It may have been nearly 20 years, but I still havent stopped saying 'can I have a T please Bob' whenever im offered a hot drink.

He's not a Bassett Hound, just a very very small wire haired Jack Russell terrier so the snow was up to his 'legpits' fairly soon after it started snowing on Saturday. He might be small, but boy, can he make a noise, particularly after dark......
