A Quiz Winner Writes
Yes well done everybody, we've made it to Friday. The estate is sunny and leafy (dead) and foxy (alive, unfortunately). A busy day beckons but first the fragrant Kirsty Young (not Wark) talking to Chris for a few moments peace. Enjoyed all the desert island tunes,a good selection I thought; we could have filled the whole show with them!
Congratulations to John Hurt by the way, who will be receiving a Bafta next month for a lifetime achievement to cinema. He'll be on Drivetime very soon too! What a voice the man has. And so many great films to discuss (and the odd turkey which we might gloss over). And on the subject of films...
Show 1 today at 2 on 5 Live with Felicity Jones as our guest. She is about to be very big news indeed. You might have seen her in Cemetery Junction, Chalet Girl or possibly the Helen Mirren version of The Tempest. No? Well read on...She's the star of Like Crazy, a new 'first-love-angst' movie and has an Audrey Hepburn look about her. Look out for this lady!
A wee trip on the reliable Central Line (no snack purchase needed! I'm a winner!) for the revved-up ARF. Cute kids, ribald hen party attenders and service station shoppers all lined up and ready to go. Quo, Queen, Cyndi Lauper, Neil Diamond all confidently expected. Now as for that first tune...I await your post.
Have a friendly and smiley Friday, see you after 2&5.

From a beautiful sunny morn here in Robin Hood county. Foxes round our way absolutely alive and kicking and making sure everyone knows it.
I'm going to a house warming cocktail party tonight so this week's ARFO suggestion has to be....
'Twist And Shout' - The Beatles
Each guest has to bring along a cocktail (a canny ploy on behalf of the hosts, methinks) so I've created my own which I've christened the 'Lady Marmalade' (in no way connected to earlier talk of home made maramalade - but how strange is that?!) - was going to suggest the song as the ARFO but didn't think it quite fitted the bill. It's so called because it's tangy, orangey and, after one, you'll be crying for more, more, MORE! (sorry) If you would like to sip along avec moi ce suir, here's what you need:
1 measure whisk(e)y
1 measure Cointreau
2 measure orange juice
Shake vigorously with ice, pour into a cocktail glass and add a splash of American dry ginger ale.
I'll leave the size of the measures to your discretion ;-)
Have a wonderful weekend folks.

We used to have loads of foxes around here. One of our neighbours had an air raid shelter at the end of their garden, very overgrown with weeds and ivy etc. and the foxes used it as their den and had their cubs in there for a few years in a row. Very cute they are but don't do much for the veg garden - digging up the Mr's potatoes much to his annoyance! That garden has now been tidied up and the residents gone to pastures new, though they still come round in the evening to see if anything around for supper.
In Simon's blog, he mentioned Cemetry Junction which is in Reading where I lived as a 10 yr old til 20ish. The swimming pool where I learnt to swim was at Cemetry Junction and the teacher was a Mr Burt who would push you in if he thought you were too hesitant about getting in! Hated every minute of it.

We had a lovely holiday a few years back when we drove up to Stockholm, stopping off along the way at hotels and camp sites. Beautiful landscapes and friendly locals.
One word of advice though if you do jump on board, don't bother trying to speak the language. I tried ordering a pot of tea in a little cafe in my best guide book swedish only to be met with a blank (or was that bemused?) look from the chap behind the counter. He promptly enquired as to wether I spoke English! So I did, and received a lovely pot of tea :0)
We always try our best with the local lingo when we're traveling, but that had us stumped!

As we like a lot of peel in our marmalade, as do the friends I give it away to, I often wash the peel from nice Jaffa oranges, slice it and put it into freezer bags then when the Sevilles are back in the shop, I make the next batch of marmalade and tip the extra peel from the freezer into the pan!

How about Loosten the Knot by Lissie. Lively little number to start the weekend
I know how much you like her and you are to blame for most of us liking her too... stairway version was brilliant.
Have a great weekend everyone :)

The sun is still shining here and I’m feeling loads better today, in spirit anyway. I wanted to thank all you blog lovelies for your thoughts and good wishes :)
Just to let you in on what’s been happening because I’m not usually such a grouch – honestly!
The bottom line is the grumpiness has been caused due to the fact that I’ve been in pain with a ‘bad arm’ for a couple of months now. I woke up one day in November with an ache in the top of my left arm and it has been with me in differing degrees of ouchiness every day since. To cut a long story short because of an initial (stupid) stoicism on my part and then a definite apathy from my GP it has taken until now to get a diagnosis. I actually changed GPs because I was so frustrated and thankfully my new Dr is a breath of fresh air and has sent me off for x-rays, scans and all sorts of tests. I had an ultrasound on Tuesday which confirmed I have severe tendonitis caused by rotator cuff abrasion – a gift of getting older it seems! So I now have a pain management plan (first big injection on Tuesday) and a regime of physio to see if this will improve things before they consider surgery. I feel so relieved that I finally know what the problem is and have steps in place to try and fix it.
Anyhoo, it was all dragging on so long that the constant pain, and disruption it caused to everyday life, really started to get me down and it made the little problems, that we all have from time to time, seem so much worse. I think the pain addled my brain into blowing many things out of proportion.
Although I have tried to stay cheerful and I know that a bit of an aching arm is nothing in comparison to what a lot of people, including some on here, go through on a daily basis. So on one hand I was berating myself to get a grip and on the other collapsing into a physical and emotional wreck! lol
Sorry, I am waffling on tediously now. Suffice it to say, coming on here is great
medicine every day, if not for the arm, definitely for the soul. And even when I’ve been quiet due to feeling down I’ve so enjoyed reading you all :)
Thanks if you managed to get this far! I’m hoping I can get away with this length of post. Fingers crossed x
Back later,
Jillyx

Hopefully now you have a diagnosis and treatment plan things will start to improve. The lovely Alex_G is a fellow sufferer of tendonitis - she will tell you she once missed out on going to see our esteemed leader recording 'Act Your Age' with Viking Mo and I, because she was feeling so rotten with the pain. There was a bit of a happy ending though, as we got him to sign a 'get well' card for her!

Sorry to hear you've been suffering but at least you have a diagnosis now and hopefully it won't be long before you're pain-free.
Chuffed you feel you get a little comfort from the blog and us bloggers :-)

Well done, Lord Ammo, on winning this week's quiz.
Meanwhile, in a parallel universe, I'm listening to yesterday's show on the iThingy. Thanks for the mensh for Rescue Me, a top choice indeed, and lovely to hear a bit of Dusty - mighty choice indeed from our very own shipspotter (careful how you say that!). And to other menshees too who I may have missed, please read our terms and conditions first, the value of your mensh can go up as well as down.
We're on the home run in for the weekend.
PS Still not sure of the difference between Kirsty Young and Kirsty Wark. I have the same problem with Michael Sheen and Martin Sheen.
PPS GoD #16 No, just eat them! My son once asked me, "Dad, if I wrap myself up with cling film and sellotape, do I become invisible.?"
Also GoD - I forgot to comment on yesterday's blog, your Divinyls choice was hilarious.

Good luck, potential Kings and Queens of the ARFO - only an hour to wait, I'm in suspenders.
Why have I suddenly started talking like Benny Hill?

What a lovely blog this is. Jilly, I'm glad you got a new doctor and that you now at least know what the problem is and a plan to make the pain go away. :)
Enjoyed reading about suggestions for making marmalade. I've never made it but might give it a try now, thanks.
Harry, I ready about Leonard Cohen's new album on Twi**er last night so will go back to your link and have a listen.
I managed to Tw**t my ARFO to Simon this morning but just for good measure:
