You Talkin' To Me?
Today written from Chris's studio as he entertains the military wives. Big smiles from everyone! Vassos is invisible in a sea of swaying choir ladies! He's ok about it though. All the best to them for their song raising money for great causes, the British Legions and SSAFA. I'm hoping Chris clears up. That's one messy studio in there.
Today is one those 2 show days, starting with Movies with Mark at 5L. And get this-we have Martin Scorsese! Cinema royalty indeed. He's talking about his magnificent Hugo film and I, for one, cannot wait to see it again. Child 3 has a birthday this weekend (12? Really? How did that happen? He was tiny just yesterday) and I'm hoping to persuade him to chose Hugo over Arthur Christmas and Puss in Boots. His call but might offer him money if needed.
Then it'll be one of those fancy-dan All Request Friday with lots of lovely folk making your weekend seem somewhat humdrum. Set the pace now! Big brash and noisy tunes now welcome for our first song if something takes your fancy...
Have a joyful and harmonious Friday, see you after 2&5.

There was once a great and powerful being, who having spotted a weekend hoving into view, spake thus:
" My people, we have toiled mightily throughout the working week, and now comes the time for pleasure. We shall take two days unto ourselves, and fill them with pastimes and pleasures. We shall both rest and party in equal measure, and through my emissary, Simon, we shall share tales of our hopes and dreams for these special days. Simon will, with our blessings, give us song and dance in return for tales of our aspirations and dreams for this 'week end'. And in order to correctly set the tone and mood for this well earned time of leisure, Simon shall play a selection of canticles, paeans, anthems, or, erm ditties, which will have been pre-ordained for him via the use of a variety of electrical communications. And principal amongst these melodies shall be...
'Faith Healer' by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band"!
The great and powerful being then went on to say...
"Yeah, I know it's a bit out of left field, but I mean, come on, blimmin' excellent and all that..."
This command was lost in the annals of time, until I unearthed it, about ten minutes ago, in a dusty corner. I thought I'd better pass it on. Wouldn't want anyone getting into any bother.

Bad move ... taking a break on a deadline day to surf around for something big, brash and loud for ARFO requests - however, the deed is done.
Does anyone else remember Rock Around The Dock - a 1986 Granada production? My late husband worked on the Special Visual Effects - explosions, fireworks, smoke, dry ice all synched with the lights and music. I tagged along so got to see the whole thing.
Truly memorable.
R1's Gary Davies hosted. There was an additional floating stage ideal for the Holly Johnson strut, poor Chaka Khan had to sing on the pirate ship and The Damned trashed their guitars and chucked them into the Mersey. Heehee.

#43 Hi Arfa, can't remember the show but can remember the host. Weirdly enough I thought of Gary Davies this morning in the dentist as the Mel & Kim song "Respectable" came on. During his R1 days Gary Davies did this feature where listeners sent in long convoluted stories leading to a pun on a song title. I remember Receptacle by Melon King was the answer on one particular story.
Whilst on the subject of Dentists - MTF, while I was waiting our local mobile tooth fairy came in. A stocky six footer with a skinhead and a lovely warm smile. He really brightened up the place just like I am sure you do with your fairy dust on all your visits.
Gig at the 12 Bar last night was awesome. Very proud of Mr 40 (38 actually but not for much longer). Having missed the last train we had to get a tube all the way back to the end of the line. Then at nearly 2 in the morning as we climbed into the car a speeding vehicle raced into the station car park cloesly followed by four police cars with lights flashing. Didn't expect to end such a fab evening with a scene like something from one of those Police Camera Action programmes.
Sun shining here.

I am merely the vessel of communication, due to a convergence, a confluence if you will, of events that led me to the dusty corner. There has been a further development. Having retrieved the message, I thought it might be prudent to clear the corner of the collected dust of ages, and I found yet another message from the gapb. It reads as follows...

Dougal (is it ok if I still call you that?) nice to see you and your dots. Hope all is well with you.
#40 Paul, such wise words from the gapb, surely they cannot go unheaded! Isn't it amazing what dusty corners bring forth, sadly mine are usually dog hair and an old sweet wrapper ;-)
Shona and Katy, loved your posts on yesterday's blog about the Magic Roundabout and other kiddies programmes from back in the day. One of my nicknames when I was little was Crystal Tipps as most of the time my hair looked like I'd stuck my fingers in a socket (no GHDs back then!) My favourites, apart from MR of course, were Trumpton (Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble & Grub), Camberwick Green (Here is a box, a musical box, wound up ready to play...) and the fab Mr Benn (the shopkeeper appeared as if by magic) aaahhh .. the simple pleasures we had back then :)
Back soon in anticipation of a blogpoppet winning the ARFO crown.

Good luck with the ARFO suggestions today. Such a busy day today and couldn't get on blog - in fact - I had no communication with the outside world for most of the day. No, I wasn't helping police with their enquiries for HIOB offerings. Tee Hee.
Took me 20 minutes to scrape the car this morning with a Jonny Cash CD case (Sorry Jonny). Brrr. Perhaps Santa will bring a proper scraper for me.
Another evening of music making for this household so probably no time to chat later.
A lot of new names to me today - welcome to the sunny side :)
Catch you later

Name a number one hit single that doesn't contain its own title in its lyrics but does contain the title of the song that replaced it at number one in its lyrics.
Perhaps not all that difficult but interesting none the less.

Well done to Rostronposkett for the ARFO. Good to have a blogpoppet get it.
Well, I've started to make my Christmas cake - at least, I've been measuring out the fruit. It's got to marinade overnight in a brandy and orange juice mix,so the actual cooking takes place tomorrow. Jennie was right - there is a lot of fruit! Feeling a bit nervous that it will work out okay, as it's a bit different for my tried and tested recipe that I usually use.
All this talk of gluwein (can't do the umlaut on my fruity tablet) reminds me of the couple of times I went skiing, both occasions in Austria. It really hits the spot when you're tired and cold after a day on the slopes. Or playing truant from your skiing lesson... not that I ever did that, obviously... ;o)
No Billie since yesterday morning (I think). Hope all is okay.

I wish Rostronposkett was a mysterious anagram riddle but its merely the surnames of two fairly unknown (to anyone not a fan) Watford FC footballers from the 80s joined together. I often have a stab at theme suggestions and I count Ryan Paris' La Dolce Vita from the Italy evening a few weeks back as a lone success.

Hope the day finds you all fine and dandy. I'm going to spend mine making lists. Three weeks tomorrow - yikes! Even if I don't achieve anything else, as long as I have my lists I'll feel I've made some progress towards the Big Day.
I'll also make a start on the card writing. I usually do this in several batches - the family and 'duty' cards first, then next week I'll probably do the friends whose cards have to be posted (and that list is getting bigger year on year thanks to the lovely interweb!) and then finally I do cards for friends I can hand deliver to, work colleagues, etc.
Then I've just got to finish making the cake, and my day will be done.
Have a good one - maybe 'see' some of you around later.

I bet Simon twigged where your blog name came from, being a football fan, of which I am not, although I did go to a Man Utd game at about six months pregnant in the days when people stood to watch and people gave me wide berth! Prior to that I went to a game at Northwich in Cheshire when Watford was playing there in some championship game and Elton John came along too and the landlord and a crowd of us from the Bull's Head in Davenham went to the match and the guys all threw me up in the air when Northwich scored a goal... but in those days I was a size 10 and much lighter than I am now... happy days!!!
