Wow, that was some wind last night. Counted the trees this morning and they are all present and correct thankfully.



I was a bit premature in celebrating the lack of kitty "gifts" yesterday. I can confirm there are still rodents in Kent but as at yesterday evening, 2 less than there were in the morning.



I loved the Wombles. Really looking forward to the show!

#46. I actually MET the Wombles once. Opening a hifi store in Harrow. Somewhere I even have a photo of me with Orinoco and Wellington.

We woke this morning to find our once enclosed garden is now open-plan with our neighbours on the right .. as I left for work Mr from Eastleigh was trying to effect a temporary repair as they have six Border Collies .. we know it will only be temporary as the forecast for Thursday is grim :-(

I had a narrow escape last night - driving back from the church band practice there was a large branch across the main road. I saw the car in front of me move out, but I didn't really register why - thought they were overtaking the car in front of them. I only saw the branch at the last minute, and had to break and swerve quickly. Good thing there was nothing coming the other way.



I loved the Wombles too - Orinoco was my favourite. I'm so impressed that you met them, The Driver! Somebody's just suggested to me that they're not real - but that can't be right. They were at Glastonbury this year, after all... ;o)

Having been out with one of the Rutherford Appleton lab science geeks (which is why our esteemed leader finds himself in the hinterland that is Didcot) many years ago, (I was impressed by his (the geeks) knowledge of astronomy, if not his clothes sense) I can only hope that the canteen has improved since then; Boffin types eating stodgy puds, heavy meat pies and talking of Star Wars is how I remember it....come to think of it, the DT Dude might fit right in.....

Most impressed some of you have met the Wombles. I think my favourite song is Remember You're a Womble but one of the first songs my guitar teacher taught me Underground Overground and I loved playing it. Happy days.

I went to see the Wombles many many moons ago when I was about 6 or 7ish and they were ENORMOUS!!!! That is my main memory. I watched them on TV, I had books, placemats, keyrings and all sorts of things. I even made up a dance to the Wombling song (I can still remember some of it 30 odd, nearly 40, years later!) and, as far as I was aware, the Wombles were little creatures who could tidy up Wimbledon Common without people noticing them, so long as they were careful, because they were so small. They used to recycle rubbish into useful objects for themselves the rubbish being so big compared to themselves. So imagine my shock when I saw these GIANT Wombles on stage. Scary.



So my suggestion is for anything by They Might Be Giants.

A week or so ago when you had Caro Emerald on the show I texted in to ask her to wait for me to arrive at the concert in London tonight as I would be a little late and she very graciously agreed.

Unfortunately, I will be somewhat later than late as my other half, also called Caro, has been overcome by flu and I am unable to attend. Could you let her know, apologising on my behalf obviously, so she can just get on with things rather than upsetting the rest of the audience waiting for me to get there? I’ll just have to make it up to her another time.



My other half's condition would respond greatly to Wombling Merry Christmas.

I am very late to blog today :( I have so much going on right now, and very little of it is Christmas related. I probably won't get any time to blog tomorrow either, because the mister and I are going to visit the centre where twin two will be staying, from next Monday. I am in a state of high anxiety and panic over that, and I don't feel prepared at all. I can't even concern myself with Christmas, although I have at least bought everyone's presents, even if they aren't wrapped! I also decided that I am NOT sending out cards this year, apart from family cards, everyone else will just have to cocoa I'm afraid.



On the Wombles - I loved the show when I was a kid, and I had my own cuddly Uncle Bulgaria. I don't remember actually owning any of the records, but I do remember them, especially 'Remember You're A Womble'. The mister also had a couple of Wombles when he was a kid, but they were home-made by his mum.

Katy - Americans make Yolkless Omelettes. I've never done it but I believe it's done in the same way as a normal one. Add some milk and some veg - Asparagus Tips or Spinach and some Cheese.



The only problem I can see is that you would need more than 2 egg whites - prob. 4 at least - so then what do you do with the other yolks? Ha!

Not sure if Simon mentioned anyone else for the same song as my husband said "Not that Flo woman again!" so I missed anything that he said after Billie's name!

3 things spring to mind:



1. A gin flip: gin, orange liqueur, lemon juice & sugar syrup. Basically put it all in a cocktail shaker with ice & serve



2. Some kind of chocolate mouse where the egg white is whisked into melted choc & cream to add a touch of 'lightness'



3. Egg white omelette - pretty much as advertised - cooked, whisked egg white (stick some cheese, ham etc for interest)

Well done Katy for Dirty Old Town!



Billie, how about a facial for one white (or freeze both in ice cube trays for later!



Beat one egg white until it is frothy.

Spread it all over your face.

Allow the egg white to dry.

You will feel your skin tighten as the egg white dries.

Rinse it off.

Your skin will have a nice tingly feeling.

Billie, you could also frost the rims of your glasses (drinks not specs) and dessert dishes if you lightly whisk an egg white and dip the rims in the white and then into a dish of caster sugar!

@ Harry - The soup was delicious! It was a bit strange at first cos it was quite sweet - but really lovely! Mine was not as "green" as in the picture. It made a lot and we've frozen half - and are looking forward to it. Thankyou.

Hi all, and well done for all menshes! Must admit I felt the tunes played didn't particularly fit the theme of tidying and clearing up all that well - but some good choices all the same! Thought the Wombles were fun, and it was great to have vision as well as sound for a change. They should do that more often for guests playing live.



#84 You know you can freeze egg whites - I've done it before and it works quite well. Just put them into ice cube trays - the equivalent of one egg white per cube - then you can defrost how ever much or little you need.



Off to choir practice in a mo - I have to break it to them that I won't be singing in the Christmas concert on Saturday. I've had a better offer - we're going to a party!

When I play along with a now-and-again-ceilidh band - we generally sing Dirty Old Town because everyone can join in. We also 'do' Whiskey In The Jar. lol.



Quite alarmed to read the 'storm stories' - Deebs in particular.

Hope Shona and Florence aren't suffering too much over the border.



I think we're all in for it over the next few days. They'll need to give Lynne and Sally more traffic time ...

Thanks for all your concern re the branch on the road. It did shake me up a bit - not so much at the time, but afterwards thinking about what might have happened. Someone was obviously looking out for me though!

Evening Poppeteers



Congratulations to Billie and Festive Florence and also to Katy for Dirty Old Town. Didn't get to hear too much of the show though as" lifie wifie" had to kick into gear earlier.



Dirty Old Town is one of my favourite tunes to play on guitar and I love the way Mr W does a wee ditty to it on his moothies that makes it a bit "cowboyish" at one part. Billie, I'll let you know next time we are playing it so you can sing along! X



Anyone got any matchsticks? My eyes are banging together and there is still a lot to do. Got a string of visitors for sleepovers starting Thursday through to Sunday. Anyhoo, it is the season to be jolly.



The weather here is frightful and dogpoppets did not like their walk earlier. Do the deed, get home was their attitiude. Still, the gardens could do with a watering. Our's had dried up to a quagmire before today.
