Re. Daughter's dreams - my two, quite separately, six years apart, in their teens, had dreams about me and illicit lovers with the fear that I'd run off and leave them.

Whilst aware that they knew of the ways of the world, I remember being quite shocked that they had clearly considered their mother in those terms. LOL.

Like many of my fellow blogpopsters [Hellooo!] I do NOT watch that jungle programme.

Like others have said, I don't have particular favourite - the music is more important than the performer, although some obviously do it better. And that very much depends on my mood at the time. Put on the spot I would probably say that Level 42 were my favourite band, but if I'm honest that has as much to do with me having a massive crush on Mark King which lasted 20 years... which I am now over, by the way ;o)

I have seen him twice, the last was two years ago when he had Lawrence Juber with him. I remember he started off with On The Border (I like this too) and ended with Gina In The King's Road and Year Of The Cat!

#71. I think that Simon & Garfunkel, and Paul Simon would have to be classed as seperate acts for the purpose of this exercise, but you can make up to 5 lists, remember, and as seperate acts, I guess you could even populate one of those lists with P.S., S&G, AG, Tom and Jerry, and...err...

But I echo what others have said here - the first three are pretty solid, after that it varies with my mood, and narrowing it down to just 5 is hard.

Finding secting only 5 favourite acts certainly concentrates the mind but after deep deliberation my current selection would be:-

Memorable evening, there was a 'humming' section in one of the poems, which sounded JUST like soldiers on the march...and to finish a German poem about the destruction of Dresden, set to music, just to remind us it was not all about the UK Remembrance, but about all people affected by war.

#89 HTS, I can appreciate your sentiments but may I suggest that you just settle down in a comfy chair with your favourite tipple, put on Pictures at an Exhibition and turn up the volume. You may find that it rekindles your interest and stamina

#91 Tink_abelle I agree with Harry - it sounds like a wonderful experience. I have always been especially moved by Wilfred Owen's poems.

Just sneaking back in. Welcome to Fenners.



The War Poets. Now you've got me. Not sure it's correct to say they are enjoyable - perhaps moving is a more appropriate word - but so many of them really touched something deep inside me during O level English Lit. I found Anthem for Doomed Youth and Dulce et Decorum Est particularly moving.



As a very young child my late Grandfather used to encourage me to stand and observe the two minute silence on Armistice Day. I knew my Grandfather had served in WW2 but didn't truly understand why remembering was important to my Grandfather until I later studied the war at school.



Yesterday I took my Big Girl for her first Remembrance day parade as a Rainbow Guide. I was a very proud mum as she marched through the closed High Street in Wickford to the new war memorial with several hundred other children who are part of the Scout and Guide movements. After the service at the memorial I witnessed one of the most touching scenes I have seen for many years. The youngsters marched passed the local Royal British Legion branch where a small group of elderly veterans were standing with various flags. The youngsters saluted the flags and the veterans clapped the youngsters. No matter what your view is on war I hope you will agree that it's lovely to see a mutual respect bridged across the generations by an act of remembrance.
