Rude

Simon Mayo|10:53 UK time, Friday, 25 November 2011

Well lateness is always disrespectful. Punctuality is worth striving for and if you fail, even if it's not entirely your fault, penance is appropriate. A tardy blog is a short blog anyway...

so if I haven't missed you.

5Live first for some movie nonsense. Director Terence Davies talks about the Deep Blue Sea and Michael Shannon on Take Shelter. And Dr Kermode will fill any gaps. Like cavity-wall insulation.

But hark! The all request Friday is back to its usual shape and your participation would be a blessing. Your totally unbeatable opening song can be placed below. This week, it could be you. Again.

Have a punctual and effective Friday. See you at 2&5.

    Morning All

It that time of the week to visit the blog so I can make my ARFO selection. I actual missed last few Fridays visit to the blog as I have been just very busy at present. When I say busy I mean no day of for the last two weeks!

To start with I would like to thank Simon and his team for my mention for during the Mars theme show for the top Bowie tune “Life on Mars”. The mention as Zoe W and PSL would say under my Sunday name of Andy Knight

Those who know me might noticed I have now changed my user name from the old one of “Wharfedale Andy” to my Twitter moniker of artfoundryman , it just to avoid me becoming a split personality with too many aliases !!

Anyway back to the selection, can I request as usual the fine and uplifting tune:-

    LITTLE SISTER – RY COODER

Wishing everyone a great weekend, and yes I have tomorrow off and no I am not going Christmas shopping !!

  • Comment number 2.

    Yay, it worked!

  • Comment number 3.

    Morning Simon and everyone!

For a different ARFO what about

Joyce Country Ceili Band by the Saw Doctors.

That would be as good a start to the show and the weekend as anything!

  • Comment number 4.

    Good morning everyone.

Wet and miserable weather here in Cumbria. It feels like Winter is finally on its way.

ARFO? Well of course I’d like to hear:

I WANT YOUR LOVE by TRANSVISION VAMP

    but I’d also welcome hearing:

WHEN YOU’RE GONE by BRYAN ADAMS & MELANIE C

I think Friday is my favourite day on the blog; it benefits from a more casual approach to the mensh chase, don't you think?

  • Comment number 5.

Excellent Mike Harding interview with the superb Seth Lakeman by the way.

  • Comment number 6.

    Good Morning All (again!)

Better late than never, and thanks to Alex Girl for weaving a bit of blog magic ;o)

    My ARFO suggestions:

TWIST AND SHOUT by the Beatles

    Or

LESSONS IN LOVE by Level 42

    Must get on...

    ~X~

  • Comment number 7.

    Morning all again!

No idea why, but SWEET CAROLINE by Neil Diamond popped into my head - so can we have that for the ARFO please.

    Tortie x

  • Comment number 8.

    Morning again from me too!

    Just fancy a bit of

    Loveshack - B52s

    or

    Let's go crazy - Prince.

    Ta muchly

  • Comment number 9.

I too missed out on last Fridays visit to the blog, along with a few others.

So, back to the usual ritual of choosing an ARF.

When, oh when are we finally going to get ELO as an opener?

Last opportunity in November to get *** Twilight *** by ELO played, then it rolls over into December, which will make it my 27th month of trying, so still early days yet ;)

I hope everyone has a great weekend. This time last year it was snowing, as I waved my Daughter off for her Birthday weekend in Paris. I've got her at home this weekend, so am looking forward to spending time with her :)

A cake to make, so better get a move on.

    Cheerio.

    Morning again everyone

As the current ARF Queen, I would be really pleased to hand my crown over to #3 Alan Dixon for his superb choice of JOYCE COUNTRY CEILI BAND by the fab Saw Doctors as it would be a lively start to the show!!!

  • Comment number 11.

    Good Morning again

    I'm going to request

just for a change - ha!

    THE BEAT by The Look

    It could be me!

  • Comment number 12.

Wow, oh wow. So pleased to have looked back at y'days blog. Or else I would have missed the posts from Flo and Driver.

    MTF.xx

  • Comment number 13.

Simon, if you or your NYM don't choose The Saw Doctors' Joyce Country Ceili song for the ARF, as it is now 52 weeks since a female voice opened your Friday show, my second choice would be.....

    ATOMIC ~ Blondie

    x

  • Comment number 14.

    Morning all.

I've not requested an ARFO before so here are two choices to kick me off:

Since ELO seems popular how about CONFUSION?

I've also had a hankering to hear ANDREW GOLD's LONELY BOY for some strange reason...

Time to get back to the grindstone for now though...

  • Comment number 15.

And there was I thinking that due to a busy morning I'd be tardiness itself in posting on the new blog!

Good morning Simon, team and poised for the weekend poppets.

After a dodgy start it has turned into a bright, sunny, blue skied day :)

I think for the ARFO I'd like to hear..

ONE WAY OR ANOTHER - BLONDIE

Will poop back a bit later for some chatter.

    Have great days all.

    Morning all!

    ARFO

    FOOTLOOSE - KENNY LOGGINS

    Thank you.

    Pen x

  • Comment number 17.

Florence - did you say you were going to see the Saw Doctors tomorrow in Edinburgh? I've got tickets for Liverpool on Tuesday. x

  • Comment number 18.

Good morning Simon, Team & NYM, and good morning again to fellow patient blogpoppets!

No ARF request from me. I have a rule that if I won't hear it, I won't request it. At 5.05 this evening, I will be on the train, returning to the rural idyll and hoping that the rat has been caught and removed.

Question. I have been putting the wee bodies of the various birds/mice/rats in the chunder bucket (or kitchen caddy, slop pail or whatever you call it). Is this an appropriate disposal mechanism? Obviously, they can't go in the recycle bin and they are a bit big to flush down the loo.

Another question. I have put a bird table and feeders outside the kitchen window so that I can watch the many birds as I cook / wash up etc. Does this make me an accessory to murder?

Morning one and all..................................comforting to know that I'm not alone in running very late this morning ;0)........................................I am soooooooooooooo glad it's Friday.............................looking forward to some uplifting.......revitalising music to get the weekend off to a great start.................

    my ARFO this week is...............................................................................

Layla - Derek & The Dominos

Hope everyone has a good day.....................................................................

    Bye bye for now.........................................................................................

    The Magic Roundabout Lady x

P.S East Anglia is sunny again..................got to get in a cheeky weather report!

P.P.S Great to hear Black played last night................thank you x

  • Comment number 20.

Well hello to you, Simon, team, NYM and punctual-as-ever bloggers

Blue sky and warm here, but I'm feeling rubbish rubbish rubbish.

So to cheer me up, 'twould be a joy to hear

_LOST WEEKEND - Lloyd Cole and the Commotions

    which sounds a lot like...

    _THE PASSENGER - Iggy Pop.

And if neither of those wets your ARFO whistle, there's always

JOHNNY B. GOODE - Chuck Berry

    Happy Fridays all.

    JBG

  • Comment number 21.

LOL. I suspected that if I spent time composing a blog post on my phone that by the time I finished a new blog would have appeared!

Typing a little trickier today. Have you ever, when cutting your fingernails with nail clippers, ever inadvertently taken a very small but significant chunk out of your fingertip? I don't recommend it...

ARFO suggestions from me are a couple of tunes that have been milling round my head all week:

STRETCH - Why Did You Do It?

CLIMAX BLUES BAND - Couldn't Get It Right

    CHICAGO - 25 Or 6 To 4

Perhaps I should be choosing Stevie Wonder and Fingertips...

  • Comment number 22.

#17 Alan... yes, The Saw Doctors at HMV Picture House and looking forward to seeing them very much as I know you will be too! I shall picture you at Liverpool singing along to Downtown, as I will be doing!!!

Hello Simon - you must have got the same transport problems as me, buses not turning up & trains leaving Cleckhuddersfax sataion early (yes).

Anway - seeing as no. 1 stepson 'Justin' has just moved back in with us, how about

THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN - THIN LIZZY

Will try to post again later but lots of things need stamping & signing. TTFN X

#22 Yes she does look great doesn't she!

Hope you enjoy the show - well I know you will! I can't wait. x

  • Comment number 25.

    Good Morning All

Bright, sunny but chilly Friday here.

Have to admit that since the War of the World's and Mars chat earlier in the week I have had Holst's Plantet Suite swirling around in my head, so as my ARF selection today would love to hear

    JOYBRINGER - MANFRED MANN'S EARTHBAND

    or for something more upbeat

ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD - NEIL YOUNG

    Enjoy the day

  • Comment number 26.

Good ARFternoon Each! To get the weekend off to a fine rambunctious start hows about...

    'FIESTA' by THE POGUES

    That'd set the scene, nicely.

  • Comment number 27.

Something that has not been on the radio for a long time is....

BACK TO LIFE (HOWEVER DO YOU WANT ME) BY SOUL II SOUL

A great song to open the show and the weekend :]

Mony Mony - Tommy James and the Shondelles

    Back to catch up.

FIVE O'CLOCK SOMEWHERE - Alan Jackson, George Strait & Jimmy Buffet

    for ARFO pleasy-squeeze ;)

  • Comment number 30.

Greetings and Happy Fridays all round .. lovely to see so many friendly faces ..

.. and thanks to the nature-watch gang for some inspirational posts.

William Henry Davies's words "What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare?......" have considerable pertinence in my life at present, so it's good to get some back-up.

    :^)

As for the ARF Opener - I can see a couple above that I've requested in the past so good luck with those [Layla, Joybringer, Rockin' In A Free World]

I've tweeted an ARFO - one of those songs that you forget about until you come across it quite by chance and then remember how much you liked it in the first place ...

    DODGY - IN A ROOM

Failing that, I'll stick with the 90s and re-request both:

    LEVELLERS- WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY

    EAGLE-EYE CHERRY - SAVE TONIGHT

All three tracks need to be played LOUD

    :^D

  • Comment number 31.

Hello Blogpoppets, Mr Mayo and the DTT.

    Hope all is well.

ARFO, how about: Lilly the Pink-Scaffold

    Have a good day all,

Afternoon all .. it's the most beautiful day here on the River Hamble near Southampton .. not a cloud in the sky and autumn colours in the trees ..

Like MTF I remember the snow from this weekend last year .. hard to believe it now ..

My choir's joint concert last night went very well .. quiet few weeks and then a mental one with two carol services and our own end of year concert .. if you missed me saying it on the old blog, singing is good for the soul ..

Please may I request I DROVE ALL NIGHT by Roy Orbison ..

    Have a fabulous Friday x

  • Comment number 33.

    Hello Everybody,

This will be my last suggestion for a couple of weeks. Got some sunshine to find!

My ARFO request, Simon, if you would be so kind to consider it, is:

LIGHT MY FIRE by THE DOORS

    or failing that,

EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD by the excellent TEARS FOR FEARS

I've just ordered my turkey from our butcher, so I feel I can go on holiday now.....the Christmas shopping can wait (something I'm sure I'll regret on my return!)

Hope you all have lovely weekends,

    Afternoon Poppeteers

Talk about punctuality and tardiness, I overslept this morning. I was just soooo tired last night. Still, I made it to work on time - just.

My ARFO this week is "Make Me Smile" Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel - a good way to kick off the weekend I think, Simon.

Snow forecast for an area of Stirlingshire today - it is certainy cold enough for it and I've got to do the airport drive again tonight. Yikes!

Hope everyone is having a good Friday.

    Catch you later

    Hello again.

Had a read back on yesterday’s blog when I had a chance with tea and my birthday cake (early for tomorrow incase anyone’s interested.)

Shona-glad you managed to capture Jocko.

Alex G: Moggies are fun aren’t they! Mr B and me were sitting in the garden looking at a sweet little baby blue tit that was testing it’s wings and having a rest on a shrub-until our grey mogpoppet decided to jump on it, a four footed at once pounce and landed on it! Cue lots of shouting at Mr B to rescue it, which he did and we placed it out of reach, with the mogpoppet being unceremoniously put back indoors with the catflap locked! The baby bird sat looking slightly stunned but I think it survived as when we checked it had gone. Our other mogpoppet goes for bigger things and bought us a blackbird once, dead, and was most put out when I put a flower pot over it to stop any more feathers gong over the hall. I don’t do dead things, Mr Boris does so it had to stay under the pot until he got in from work!

    Madchicster-Have a lovely hol.

JBG- Hope you feel better soon.

Back to work now so hope you all have lovely weekends.

Can we have some classic Aerosmith for the ARFO please.

    SWEET EMOTION - AEROSMITH

  • Comment number 37.

    Hello again!

Katy, how was the Lamb Hotpot? Hope it was scrummy!

MCW, have a fabulous holiday. Don't worry about the Christmas shopping whilst you are away- it'll wait.

Mrs B, sounds like your mogpoppets are as bad as mine.

Alison, glad the concert went well.

Everyone, can I say how touched I have been by all the welcome back messages. You are a truly lovely bunch of people and I have missed you all.

    A-G

PS. The rat is dead. Apparently came out from the wine racks with it's paws held up in an attitude of surrender. Rosie-kitten doesn't know the word "truce".

    Good afternoon,

#9 MTF, snow this time last year - a group of us were saying that earlier as week walked back from toddler group minus our coats. Happy Birthday to your daughter. What does one call fairy offspring?

    # 18 Alex, I literally had a tea on screen moment (and keyboard and desk and chair) when I got to your last paragraph.

Haven't been able to blog over the last couple of days. Have had a bit of a tizz in the family. Won't dwell on it here but will say how lucky I feel to have good health even though I so often take it for granted.

Well. Having had the great pleasure of speaking to Simon on air last Friday and of being No.2 in the Breakfast Show Top Tenuous this morning I feel a little cheeky even considering asking for a AFFO. However it has just dawned on me what the date is. In the interests of spurring me into action with planning for a month's time:

FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK by The Pogues and Kirsty McColl.

Too early for Christmas you say? My mate had it as the first dance at her March wedding.

Some great and uplifting thanksgiving songs last night. Music is definitely good for the soul. Congrats and thank you to all you top choon choosers for just the songs I needs to hear at that time.

Oh and to Simon - you are always worth the wait.

    Have a good day.x

  • Comment number 39.

#13 Florence - is it really 52 weeks since the ARFO was one by a female singer. I shocked!

On that basis Simon and NYM I think you need to redress the balance so will opt for an old favourite of ARF..

I Love Rock and Roll - Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

Hello everyone - not been around much this week due to illness, interview and general busy-ness.

I hope all the ill people are feeling better. I will try and catch up at some point. Thanks to Alan for mentioning Seth Lakeman - I will get to iplayer at some point as I love the lovely Seth...

  • Comment number 40.

#39 Autumn_Gale Yes it's well worth a listen. His new album sounds excellent. x

MTF and Alison from Eastleigh... you both mentioned the snow of last year...

What a difference a year makes!! The first picture was taken this week last year...

The blackberry pic I took on Sunday along the lane from us. There are more blackberries on the rest of the bush but I just snapped a random pic!

    https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7161/6399533845_bddc6fc49e_z.jpg

I heard someone on the TV this morning say their daffs are starting to flower so I may have a close look to see if our snowdrops are peeping through yet as they are usually the first of our bulbs to appear!

I saw a couple of pigeons kissing, in the tree beside the back door, a few minutes ago, so I hope they're not going to be having a baby for me to rescue if it gets freezing... although I did enjoy having baby Woody for a month in the summer!

    xx

  • Comment number 42.

#34 Shona - more snow is forecast next week, according to the chap who runs Aviemore Ski Center's Blog. If you think about it, the following song suggestion is actually non-christmas, just snowy.

    THE RONETTES - SLEIGH RIDE

Just peered out of the office window - it's pleuting it down!

  • Comment number 43.

#39 Autumn_Gale, I think it's a whole year but maybe Katy, if she has a spare moment, will confirm with her list of ARFs going back a long time. A few weeks ago I started to mention on a Friday, how many long weeks it's been since there was a female opener to the show and I think today will be the 52nd week!

    x

  • Comment number 44.

#43 Florence, by my calculations it's 52 weeks since Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive was played. I don't think there has been another female artist since.

In fact, apart from Joan Jett (twice) has there been another female artist for the ARFO?

  • Comment number 45.

    Hi Simon and everyone

Thank you for my mention at the end of the quiz last night and thank you to Deebee for letting me know that I had one...top bird!! For Good Life if anyone was wondering!

1st week over back in the world of work ( looooooong week!) but enjoyable and fruitful! 2nd interview went well I feel at pens company...2 hour financial analysis exam sitting in a showroom surrounded by pens and 2 quick techy tests. I am the first of 4 successful in 2nd interview and will know end of next week but will feel really guilty if I get it and I have to let this contract down, im sure they will understand because as this one is only 4 months long the pen place is a year long so the maths is obvious.

Anyway ARFO for me would be:

    MANIAC - From Flash Dance

    GLORIA - Laura Brannigan RIP

DONT STOP ME NOW - Queen

    Laters folks

    Happy weekend!

    Mandy ;)

  • Comment number 46.

    Hi Simon,

How about the saw Doctors fantastic cover of "Downtown" feat Petula clark as ARFO

Will be seeing them at Wolverhampton on the 11th can't wait

  • Comment number 47.

    Right - all caught up.

Florence - the photo of your dogs is priceless! Can't be easy being a low-slung dog in such weather! The expression on their faces says it all really!

Mrs B. - do you remember TC - the moggie I had when we were neighbours? He used to climb the tree opposite and get stuck and make the most incredible noise until someone went to rescue him. He lived out a good life with my sister in the country when I couldn't look after him myself.

MCW - have a lovely holiday - Father Christmas will do the shopping, won't he?

    Jennie

  • Comment number 48.

Re the lack of female artists for ONE WHOLE YEAR.

Ladies and Gentlemen, bloggers and muggles, I offer up for today's ARFO:

SUZI QUATRO - Devil Gate Drive or 48 Crash.

  • Comment number 49.

    Where did lunchtime go...?

Just been having a 'listen at a time more convenient' to the interview with Russell Watson from earlier in the week. Quite moving. I also listened back to my mensh from yesterday - I'd forgotten how good that Joe Walsh song was!

    #38 Hope everything's okay Julia - you know where I am ~XX~

#41 Lovely pictures Florence - you have a real gift. Can't believe we had snow this time last year. Really hope we don't get such a cold winter this year.

#45 You're very welcome, Mandy. Not sure I've been called a 'top bird' before. LOL!

    ~X~

  • Comment number 50.

#46 Hi Johno See #17 & #22. Florence is going to see them at Edinburgh tomorrow and I'm going to the Liverpool show on Tuesday.

We thought about Downtown as an ARFO but as it's not an oldie we've tried for Joyce Country Ceili Band today. Enjoy the show.

  • Comment number 51.

I am bussing home tonight so will miss ARFO but I'd like to hear if possible These Are The Days of Our Lives, I would have been 5 when Mr Freddie passed away but even now his (And the rest of Queen's) music still lives on and WWRY is one of my favourite musicals of all time ever!

How are you all doing? I walked to the supermarket and back at lunch time now holding the fort until my colleague returns :D Roll on the weekend

  • Comment number 52.

#46 #50 PS - wouldn't it be great if we could get Downtown on the R2 playlist?!

Just a newbie posting for the first time.

thought I'd add my request for ARFO.

Just has to be JOYCE COUNTRY CEILIDH BAND!

What a way to start the weekend

Just heard this Cat Stevens song on SW's "Big Show"

Oh don't you remember the days of the old school yard.

    When we had simplicity

And we had warm toast for tea

  • Comment number 57.

#54 Do you remember the old couple who lived round the corner from us? She was always moaning to me that TC was doing his 'business' on the stairs! It didn't matter how many times I assured her it wasn't him, she still moaned. I think she was only happy when she was moaning cos she was always having a go at her husband as well! Fun times!!

#41 Florence, LOL at your kissing pigeons and baby pigeons.

Laughing at the mogpoppet stories but shudders at the thought of having to deal with the presents.

Welcome Spitfire_driver. I hope you stick around as this blog is a lovely place to be.

  • Comment number 60.

#55 Hi spitfire_driver. Welcome - you will enjoy it here especially with taste like that!

  • Comment number 61.

46 Johno... it would be brilliant if Simon would play Downtown, as up to now on Radio 2 I have only heard it played by Janice Long, as she's a big fan of The Saw Doctors, but like Alan said, Downtown is a 'new' song, although of course it began as a song from the 60s, so perhaps it might just qualify as an ARF!!!

  • Comment number 62.

#56 On the same show - Werewolves of London, can you get any weirder lyrics than those? But I guess that's all part of the craziness of the song. It always makes me chuckle when I hear it as the two restaurants it mentions, Lee Ho Fok's and Trader Vic's are both places I used to frequent quite a bit - never did see a werewolf at either of them though!

  • Comment number 63.

I am going to say au revoir gang. Poets Day today.

As always, its been a pleasure. Unlikely to pop in over the weekend - Christmas shopping tomorrow and digging over veg garden on Sunday. Have a great weekend and hope to see you Monday.

    #55, #60 - The more Drivers the better!! :o)

This has to be one of the poorest lyrics, even if they rhyme, from the Human League's "Lebanon"...

Before he leaves the camp he stops

    He scans the world outside

And where there used to be some shops

Is where the snipers sometimes hide

That third line just jars with me whenever I hear it!

  • Comment number 65.

    American Pie by Don Mclean.

Regarding a question asked yesterday...to describe the taste of pumpkin pie: think carrot cake, then replace sponge-cake texture with soft, squidgy, cream like paste on tasteless cardboard like pastry.

  • Comment number 66.

    Thanks for the welcome.

I've read the blog for a while but I'm normally out on the road during the week

You might not think that the rest of my musical taste is quite so good though!

WooHoo... Glad to see some more Saw Doctors' fans on here.... Alan, Johno, myself and now our welcome newbie, Spitfire_Driver!!!

Some Joyce Country Ceili Band would be fab at 5:05pm... and #52 AD, the only person I have heard playing Downtown is Janice Long and she has played it several times in just over a week as she's a big fan like I am and like you guys are too!

Shame we're not all going to the same gig!

Here's their setlist from last night at Stockton-on-Tees, but no Joyce Country Ceili Band, which is unusual as it was listed a couple of days ago! Fingers crossed they do it!!!

    Happy Birthday Mrs Boris!!! XX

#44 Harry and Florence - it is indeed 52 weeks since Gloria Gaynor.

The only other females featured in the ARFOs are Joan Jett, Donna Summer and Cher who cher-ed [see what I did there] a lead with Meatloaf on Deadringer ...

Bye bye Alex - yes, the hotpot was grand. Had some more at lunch today - even better.

Chickster - have a wonderful holiday Maldiving x

#66 Good to have another Driver - at the birth of this blog I was known as 'BabyDriver' and would still really like to have that name back.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow Mrs Boris, hope you have a lovely day.

Happy Holidays Madchickster, hope you have a Maldivine time (very jealous!)

Bye Alex, glad you are back, you always manage to make me chuckle.

Katy - why can't you be 'BabyDriver' any more?

Welcome to all newcomers, most welcome you are :)

Think I'm going to get to hear all the ARF today, most unusual for me. Will be trying to get the house in some semblance of order rather than the building site it is at the moment, so need some loud, energetic songs to get me motivated.

I'm setting my sights on 6.30 to say goodbye to housework and hello to wine o'clock ;-) Hope some of you will be joining me!

Best of luck with your ARFO choices.

hello all even later than Simon!

I sent a twitter request in this morning for Candi Staton 'young hearts run free'

reading back re lack of girlies as an ARFO I don't stand much chance

#76... you never know PSL.... Simon will probably play a girlie song before he plays Twilight for MTF! ;o)

    Afternoon All -

Happy Birthday for tomorrow to Mrs.B. Enjoy!

    And to Ms. MTF!

Hope Chickster has a lovely hol.

JBG - hope you're feeling better than "rubbish" now.

I'm laughing at my naivety this morning - #11 - "It could be me!"

    I really enjoyed "Bulldog"!

  • Comment number 79.

Matt doing the actions for YMCA? It'll be down to that 'tash!

  • Comment number 80.

Missed the ARFO. Was it Deebee who got the crown ?

I need to leave for the airport straight after Simon's show. *Frets*

Had to pop quickly to the store where every little helps earlier. The car park was full - honestly it was like Christmas Eve. Seemingly the store (where Brucie does the jokes) nearby is closed for a week for refurbishment. That explains it then.

Have a good Friday evening everyone. My wine o'clock will begin when I get home. *chilling nicely*

    Shona x

  • Comment number 81.

    Hi Shona -

The ARFO was The Beatles - Bulldog. It wasn't suggested by a blogger.

I DO feel for you re - airport drive. I don't enjoy driving at all these days but esp. at night. Take Care!

  • Comment number 82.

#81 Thanks Billie. Too bad it wasn't Deebee's Twist and Shout.

At least there will be cars on the road at this time of night so I can follow the lights through the dark bits. But there is one bit where I have to veer left for turn off to airport into traffic joining the motorway. That scares me too. Anyhoo, I'll get there, I'm sure. X

  • Comment number 83.

Awww shame it wasn't Deebee's Beatles' song for the ARF as I prefer Twist and Shout to the one Simon played!!! Presumably I can look after the ARF crown for another week since it wasn't a blogger's choice! I shall wear it tomorrow night for The Saw Doctors' concert and maybe they'll think I'm Petula Clark and let me sing Downtown with them!!!

Off to fill up my wine glass and eat my Shepherd's Pie and Apple Crumble!!

Have a lovely weekend everyone xx

Didn't enjoy the ARFO but as we know it takes all sorts ;-)

Wine glass full (not for long!) and weekend underway.. have a good one everyone xx

  • Comment number 85.

    Hi All

Haven't had a moment to myself since I got home! We've got our friends the Brainys and another couple coming round for dinner tonight, and I'm cooking pheasant casserole. I'm slightly worried in that I seem to be organised - casserole bubbling on the hob, dauphinois potatoes in the oven, iced pudding decanted and put back in the freezer till about half an hour before it's served. Table is laid. We're ready and waiting for our guests to arrive. I'm wondering what I could have forgotten...

Pity it wasn't my Beatles tune that was played for the ARFO, but well done anyway to the muggle who chose it.

May not gt the chance to blog tomorrow - we're off to Top Gear Live at ExCel, then back for a quiz in the evening. It's all go... Hope everyone has a good weekend.

    ~X~

#83 Have a great time at the show tomorrow Florence - I look forward to a review on Monday.

#85 Deebee - the meal sounds wonderful. I might pop round myself! Hope it goes well and enjoy Top Gear tomorrow.

    Happy weekend everyone. x

    Good Evening All :)

I didn't get a chance to blog today, it's been full on here with the twins off school (inset day) They have run me and the mister ragged. I was just thinking, as Simon posted a link on Twitter this morning about education stifling children's creativity. We were thinking about home schooling our twins, before we found out the extent of their learning disability and autism. I must say though, that we could never do that now, they require specialist help, and we need the respite that school provides.

I didn't get to hear much of ARF, or the ARFO, which went to a muggle I understand, so well done that muggle :)

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend, whatever your respective plans are :))

    What a day!

Nice to get home though and hear an owl hooting, far more preferable to the racket (yes, I'm getting old!) coming from Butlins, that is 4 miles way, that can be heard on the seafront.

I didn't hear all of the show today, but did get to hear Friday night is Music night. I thought it was a really good show, and Steve Wright didn't song over a single song. Yeehaa for that!

    Funny old Day!

#88 Katy... did you like the ARF tonight? I'm like Jilly #84 and didn't enjoy it at all and think it's the worst start to the programme I have heard... but then it's a good job we don't all like the same songs! ;o)

  • Comment number 92.

    With you Flo.

But I didn't really know the song, that Simon thought to be so excellent and that no-one had requested before.

    Hurrah for individual 'tastes!'
