I'm back from a long and refreshing summer sabbatical. Have been lurking occasionally, and glad to see some new faces in these pastures.



Lots to report... garden had a massive revamp and garage demolished and rebuilt by my own fair hands, Child#1 exceeded all expectations with 11 A*s and 2 As at GCSE, I celebrated a significant-ish birthday, and am now the proud owner of DAB radio for my listening delectation, and a new fancy phone which I take great pleasure in using for anything except making calls.

This is my first time here - i didn't realise you had a blog but don't worry its just my age!



I have recently found your show again and am loving it. I worked from home with the children around for a long time and changed to travelling to and from a place of work last year. I have listened to your show everyday on my way home. I smile the whole time and its a perfect end to my working day.



We are from Leeds originally, but made the move to Guernsey in the Channel Islands last September. It's wonderful just like home was years ago but with lots of sun and without any crime. Sorry to hear Autumn is just about there in the UK but its still very much summer here - had the afternoon and tea on the beach yesterday.



Your team is just superb, keep up the good work.

Welcome back to Android John, and welcome for the first time to guernseyjules. How could you not know Simon had a blog?! Glad you found us at last, and hope you can stay and chat - you'll find we're a very friendly bunch.



I love the Channel islands - I've sailed there a few times, though alas not in our boat. Spent a rather uncomfortable time once in the early hours of the morning, at an increasingly acute angle in the entrance to Jersey harbour when the helmsperson (not me) went the wrong side of the entrance buoy, and we had to wait for the tide to rise again before we could float off. Well, it had been a rather long and tiring passage to get there - that was his excuse, at least.

Just spent a delightfully country tinged afternoon in the shop, entertaining the customers with the likes of Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Little Feat, Gram Parsons, The Soggy Bottom Boys, Alison Krauss & Union Station, and The Avett Brothers. Soon be time for a change of tack, to join in with the nauty fun.

Evening all - just a thought, but for anyone who's interested there is a lovely passage in Tom Stoppards play, Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are dead, which begins, "Autumnal, nothing to do with leaves..." (near the end of act 2), it kind of sums up this time of year and does it for me every time. Relic of a past life before the weekly chores of sorting socks into pairs and discussing the merits of Hull City AFC with a 10 year old.
