Day off

Simon Mayo|08:21 UK time, Tuesday, 19 July 2011

Morning bloggers. Hope you have a good day and enjoy (but not too much) Paddy K. on Drivetime. I'm off for a day of high ceramic art and cheesy nibbles. Children 1&2 will be running the bar, child 3 is the snack carrier and I will be moving effortlessly among the crowd, smiling and swapping quips with the art cognoscenti. Or sitting in the corner reading a book-you guess.

Have an engaging and thought-provoking Tuesday, see you tomorrow.

    Monring Simon, Morning all

Thanks for blogging on your day off, Simon - hope it all goes well for Mrs M.

We'll be gentle with Paddy K (but will the Mother Superior?).

Look forward to 'seeing' you again tomorrow.

    Morning Simon and everyone else.

Ditto, thanks for blogging on your day off....dedication!

Best wishes and hope the exhibition is a success for Mrs M.

Think you should theme up St Swithins day tomorrow....i hasn't stopped raining since said day....was St Swithins day 15th or 17th? not too sure.

Anyway see you tomorrow Simon raring to go again!

    Mandy :)

    Morning all,

On Jury service - but not required till 10.45 this morning - so thought I would blog a choon choice - seems I have lucked out there....

Hope all goes well with Lady Ammo's pot show - let's hope that children and dogs are well under control.

    Have a nice day y'all

  • Comment number 4.

Just a quick hello to everyone and to say that I hope Mr and Mrs M and their family have a good day!

    Back later!

    xx

  • Comment number 5.

    Good morning,

A very important day in the Mayo household. Hope all goes very well for you.

    #1 Morning Tortie.

#2 Mandy, I think St Swithin's Day was the 15th. That was a fine and dry day.

#3 Suzie, Hope you get an interesting case...

I am sure everyone is either gripped or heartily sick of this hacking business. I can't help thinking there will be a film at some stage - but who will play the main protagonists?

    Rebekah Brooks = Alex Kingston

    Andy Coulson = Michael Sheen

Jeremy Clarkson = cameo as himself

    Elisabeth Murdoch = Rene Zelleweger

    James Murdoch = Nigel Harman

But who is going to play Rupert Murdoch?

    Have a good day.x

  • Comment number 6.

    #5 Morning Julia!

    Rupert Murdoch = Ben Kingsley?

  • Comment number 7.

    Good Morning All

What a lovely surprise to have a new blog today - I wasn't expecting that! Thank you Simon. Hope all goes well for the exhibition, and that nothing gets broken.

LuciesMum - from yesterday's blog - I didn't know Janice Long did oldies themes as well. Must admit I rarely listen to the radio late at night unless I happen to be in the car - maybe I should give it a go. There's little worth bothering about on TV these days.

Suzie - Mr B did jury service last year, in fact it was about this time of year. He found all the waiting around a bit tedious.

Julia - LOL! Maybe Martin Shaw as Rupert Murdoch? Or maybe not - he's too nice.

Well, best get on with some work I guess - see y'all later.

Good morning! What a lovely surprise!

Hope all goes well for Lady M.

Jason Isaacs for Murdoch? Maybe not ;-)

  • Comment number 9.

#8 Haha! No - too young, Mo. Although he does often play baddies...

I had a nice email today from a pal who let me down a few weeks ago. That's cheered me up a bit - I hate falling out with people.

  • Comment number 10.

Woohoo - hello Mayoblog - made even more interesting, if it were possible, by the addition of a word or several from Simon on a non-schoolday.

Cheers Simon - sounds as though you have a fascinating and unusual family day in store. Everyone working together as a unit - ties that bind and a day to cherish.

    A sneaky tweetpic maybe?

Hello all blogpoppets above. I am feeling very smiley today. No particular reason. Just one of those glad-to-wake-up-with-a-pulse days ..

.. I might just treat the family to a midweek roast.

Julia - casting for the Murdoch Biop. Anthony Hopkins for Rupert Murdoch?

And while we're Lookyliking - enjoyed your Madonna pics!

    :^D

    Morning all

A pleasant surprise to get a new blog from his Lordship this morning. Noble and nice.

5 / 7 / 10 - re "Murdochgate the movie" - there's already a spoof trailer on Youtube, which is very cleverly done, and a bit of a giggle. Love the Milliband casting....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFufrqhp0eE

  • Comment number 12.

#9 I should perhaps clarify that the pal in question was a muggle. I'm sure none of you blogpoppets would ever let me down - you are all far too lovely!

#10 KatyMatey - your smileyness is infectious! And can I second your request for a tweetpic from Lady Ammo's big day.

  • Comment number 13.

    Morning All,

Thanks for posting a blog this morning Simon, (was it suggested you went and found something to do to keep out of the way for a while!)

Hope you have a good exhibition Mrs M and it is successful

Welcome back MTF, nice to see your post on yesterdays blog, and thanks for spotting the Style Council tune, a good song that one

Hope everybody has a good day

  • Comment number 14.

    Good morning peeps,

Well here I was all set to try and think up an oldie or two for todays theme, to find that Simon's on a day off! I'm on a day off today too but have nothing as exciting as an art show to fill it. Hope it is a resounding success

I was called for Jury Service last year but managed to get out of it as I was having a wisdom tooth removed the same week!

I think St Swithin's day was the 15th, and I do believe it has rained every day since here in Edinburgh, getting thoroughly sick of the deluges!

Have a good day one and all,

    Rx

    Hi all.

A quick poop in from me, in between trying to adjust back to the everyday routine.

First day back at work and no Simon? Ah well, will be a happy humpday tomorrow.

Will catch up with everyone as soon as I can. Hope all are well :)

Morning Everyone and of course, Simon The Congenial Host, The Team and The NYM (just because there's no theme today it doesn't mean we shouldn't still include everyone)

Apologoes for my absinthe yesterday - it was v busy at the grindstone. I did manage to tweet two suggestions - was played but I don't think I got the mensh - it was the first off the blocks. anyhoo, not to worry - a very enjoyable show, apu.

Posting in chunks - it's another rambling post :s

  • Comment number 17.

All the best to Mrs M - I'm sure the exhibition will be a resounding success. Lovely to see the children being involved too - they'll be in their element, particularly Child 3 - at that age they just love helping out and being involved don't they? Ooooh yeah, a photo of the pots would be good, please :)

Erm, Patrick Kielty? Yeah, he'll do ;) Would much rather have the gawjus Richard Allinson tho'.

  • Comment number 18.

I'm very happy to report that there is to be a mini-meet towards the end of Aug at a lovely little farm shop and cafe which appeared on Countryside Kitchen last night (on t' other channel). The lovely PSL and I are meeting for coffee and cake :) Looking forward to it very much.

    Grindstone beckons. Laters sweet p'taters.

  • Comment number 19.

How remiss of me, I didn't say thank you for posting a blog today Simon. anyone ever tell you, you're the best :)

RosiePosie - my sis is in Dundee and she keeps sending requests for me to send some sunshine her way. At the mo, we're a bit dismal here in The Shire too - it's all v depressing. Friday (15th) was a glorious day here - lovely and warm and, as far as I'm aware, we didn't have any rain. Shouldn't we be having fab weather for 40 days and 40 nights in that case or does it not work like that?

Nice to see you Brandon - hope all's well chez toi.

MTF - looking all bronzed and gorgeous there m' Lovely - great to have you back.

  • Comment number 20.

Good greetings all. Good luck with the quips Mr M, and good luck Mrs M and children who will be doing all the work. Hope all are well today. Thought I'd drop by having devoured lunch (mmmmmmmmmmm lunch) and see what's occurring. I have a story for you:

Englishman, Irishman, Scotsman, Welshman, German, Swiss, Russian, Kenyan, Australian, American, South African, Indian, Brazilian, Canadian, Korean, Italian, Norwegian, and a Madagascan went to the Ivy for lunch. The Maitre D' said: ''Terribly sorry, but you can't come in without a Thai'. Works better in real life.

Weird not to be choon chasing on a Tues. But lovely to see some regulars poop by. Not sure I'll be listening to Mr Kielty. Doesn't float my boat from what I've seen of him previously.

    Welcome home, MTF!

#24 Hey Toots [snigger] thanks for the info!! I'm sooooooooo far behind in blog terms. Silly me.

    What occurs Toots?

  • Comment number 27.

Toots - how lovely that you and PSL are meeting up! It's great how people are being brought together and friendships formed out of this blog.

Malcolm - some of us went to Radio 2 last November to help out with the Children in Need telethon, during which MTF, MCW and I were given a tour of the building. We got in the lift to go up to the 6th floor where the studios are, and there was a guy in the lift who, when he realised who we were seemed really excited to see us - as if we were famous! He knew all our blog names, and it turned out that he was the one who reads through all our banter on here each day and picks out our song suggestions - and presumably passes them to Simon and the producer to choose which ones are going to get played. Anyway, we nicknamed him the Nice Young Man (because he was!), and the name has stuck. He has now left, and another NYM has taken over - maybe we'll meet him at this years CiN!

  • Comment number 28.

Aaaaaaaaaahhhh Deebee thank you so much for the enlightenment. How I wish I could be involved in something so worthwhile.

  • Comment number 29.

I was unsure about popping in today, as I am such a clumsy oaf, I could easily break some ceramic art, even at a great distance, and via the medium of a blog. But, I'm here anyway. Hope it all goes well, Mrs Mayo. I'll tread carefully.

Katy, I had a look at that Poker thing, but it looks like it wants some of my hard earned, and it aint getting any. Unless I've misunderstood the whole concept.

  • Comment number 30.

I got called to do Jury Service in 2007. I was so excited on 1st day to be one of 15 called from the pool to go to a court room then the clerk drew lots for the final 12 ...I was not picked so trundled along to waiting area to keep the coffee company then day 2 same thing happened again and i was gutted... anyway was sent home after 4 days as not needed...never even sat on a case .... as well really glad I never as I was a child abuse case where the child was 6. I wanted to put my A level Law exam into practice!!!

  • Comment number 31.

#26 - what occurs, Malcolm? a thick ear for you if you don't stop sniggering at my name ;) All's quiet on the western front for now. The elder boy breaks up (not literally you understand) for school hols on Wed and the younger boy on Fri - the younger boy has his leavers' assembly on Fri morning - hoping to stay strong and not need the tissues. The boys are off to Sconnie Botland with their dad next week so I'm planning a week of treats pour moi! The first week of Aug, we're youth hostelling in the Highlands and the week after we're with my Mum, catching up with family and friends. What's occurring with you m' Lovely?

  • Comment number 32.

#5 Julia40 - re the mini series on the Murdochs. Private Eye has already run a look alike picture some time ago which was very appropriate for Rupe.

    DAVROS, master of the Daleks!

  • Comment number 33.

#31 Sorry - can't help it!! What occurs here is start new job 1st August. Yee-haaa [or perhaps not] Was made vice-president of local charity group last night [gulp] meaning I'm President from next July [double-gulp] apart from that not a lot. Oh, got to go back into work now. Booooo.

  • Comment number 34.

    Good afternoon,

Some good suggestions for Murdochgate the Movie.

    #6 Tortie, That sounds plausible.

#7 Deebee, No way! Perhaps he could play John Yates though.

#9 Deebee again, You are way too nice to fall out with anyone.x

#8 Mo, Maybe as James rather than Rupert. Only suggested Nigel Harman because he is very easy on the eye ;-)

#10 Katy, Madonna pics - the things you do for your best friend eh!

#11 JBG, Thanks for that. Will take a look.

#15 MTF, Welcome home my lovely.x

#17 Toots, Yes I think Richard Allinson is top super sub too.

#18 Toots again, How lovely to be meeting up!

    #32 M'Lady, LOL!

#33 Malcolm, SNAP! It was decided a few weeks ago by several of my fellow committee members that I would be the next Chair of our local pre-school which is also a charity. Got voted in last night. All a bit scary really! Good luck mate.

Anyone ever been to Cologne? Any suggestions on what to do there?

  • Comment number 35.

#27 - Deebee - sorry m' Lovely, I forgot to reply to you - it'll be lovely to meet PSL - the little farm shop / cafe we're meeting at is fab - food is delish.

    ~ xx

  • Comment number 36.

Oh how lovely, another mini meet. Hopefully you won't be quite so nervous this time Toots, having survived an afternoon with moi in Dundee ;-). PSL, Toots is lovely. I can vouch for that!

  • Comment number 37.

#33 - Malcolm - well done you. You're going to be fab. :)

#34 - Hi Julia40 Likewise, well done you, you'll be fab :) I visited Cologne once but cannot remember what sightseeing we did. It was with the ex before children came along. We were living in Berlin and I think we must have visited Cologne with his basketball team (he played for the air force). I don't remember too much about it apart from the beautiful Cathedral. Sorry for not being able to be more helpful but it was 20+ years ago. I'm sure you'll have a lovely time when you get there.

nearly home time so off to tidy up the desk

  • Comment number 38.

#36 - Aw Mo, I'm not nervous yet but i will be on the day - very silly I know. I still can't believe you expected me to have an English accent - that is just so funny. what made it funnier was I hadn't even said anything - I mouthed 'hello' across the concourse and the first thing you said was 'I expected you to have an English accent' :) Oh dear, don't go raising PSL's expectations of me ;) xx

    rightio, desk clearing time.

Afternoon all, hope everyone is starting to dry out a bit after the weekend! I keep telling myself it's just getting it all out of the way before our weekend! Mind you our stages in huge marquees so we don't do soggy bottoms!

Good luck to Mrs M on the exhibition, hope all the preparation didn't take up too much of the wee hours. Remember setting our final exhibition up at uni - but we only had the space from 10pm and had to scratch build the exhibition space overnight. I never wanted to see another 8x4 piece of white chipboard come 7am! Needless to say we were all very sedate at the private view that evening!

Right wristbands ordered, t-shirt half done and loads of fabric scraps bought for making bunting! Busy busy!!

    Have a rocking tuesday! xx

Breaking News......the sun appeared! Long enough for me to close the blinds and then off it went again. Ah well.

Julia, I was in Cologne when I was 15. I remember it being very hot and very beautiful. LOL it was so long ago that I remember being hugely surprised to see a McDonalds. Up until then the only place I'd seen one was London.

You have to admit Toots, you type with an English accent ;-)

  • Comment number 41.

Julia - aww thanks! Maybe the problem is that I'm too nice - or too easy going at any rate, and people have been known to take advantage... Anyway, water under the bridge now. Never been to Cologne, but I've heard it's a very fine city.

Toots - I'm sure you and PSL will get on fine. Although I'm now starting to worry that PSL might need a translator... Exactly how strong is your Scottish accent? I'm thinking Rab C Nesbitt ;o)

Right, I'm off to that most feared of places, the dental hygienist. I'm sure she somehow knows it was me who had the three worder 'dental hygienist hell' read out by Simon about this time last year, and has been taking it out on me on subsequent visits. Wish me luck - it's been nice knowing you all...

    Hi Everyone -

I saw this lovely new blog this morning but there was no comment box. How thoughtful of Mr. Mayo.

I too hope the exhibition goes well and wish Mrs. Mayo "Good Luck".

I missed the whole show last night. Congrats. to the menshees. I see from the blog that some bloggers missed out.

Going to read today's musings - 44 shouldn't take too long. Back in a bit.

    #11 John - enjoyed your video !

  • Comment number 47.

Hi Billie - nice to 'see' you!

So that's the first of today's challenging experiences out of the way. My teeth are now whiter than a pocket sized motoring show presenter's... Now for the next challenge. We've got a couple coming round this evening for a lesson in navigation, prior to them coming sailing with us at the weekend. Nice people, but goodness me - brains the size of planets both of them! I'm worried I'll struggle to keep up. It's like being in the room with two Mastermind finalists. At least I know a bit more about navigation than they do - for now anyway. I think I'll leave most of the talking to Mr B though - my job can be to keep their wine glasses topped up. I can just about manage that.

  • Comment number 48.

Hi Deebee - I'm sure you don't need it but good luck for tonight.

It's been very quiet here tonight - and it's felt very strange without Simes. I think Mr. K was fine. It must be so difficult to stand in for one night, keeping the format of some-one else's show whilst trying to stamp your own personality on it. Welldone Mr. K.

I'm feeling tired tonight. Yesterday was manic - hence missing the show completely.

Trying for an early night. "Candle at both ends" springs to mind - but it's really AGE isn't it?

    Love to All

    Hi All,

I had just written a great load of waffle and pressed post comment and.....

    nothing!

I just wanted to say that I thought Simon was lovely to remember us all this morning

on what must have been a very hectic day in the Mayo household. I hope that Mrs M's exhibition went well and that you all enjoyed some quality family time together.

Deebs, you are a very nice person, I know! Don't worry about your brainy guests, I'm sure that after your visit to the hygienists your teeth are far brighter than either of them! Have a lovely evening.

Off to pick Mr Mcw from the station, take care

PS Deebee, I am sorry, please insert the word dental before the word hygienist in my last post.

#51 Malcolm, We will have to compare notes.
