Bird. Worm.

Simon Mayo|06:05 UK time, Tuesday, 24 May 2011

Lots to do. Things to write. Children to drive. Film to see. Drama A/S level to worry about. Blog to write. Start at the end Mayo.

Up at 5am today which I put down to an over active mind and early morning sun. Then I notice that Tony Blackburn has been tweeting away for ages, saying how much he enjoys this time of day. And the truth is, I agree with him. Part of me is insisting that this is the most creative time of day and that I should get up and jolly well make use of it. No one to call, no one to talk to and no one to kick you off the computer. It may be a hangover from my years of doing the breakfast show (in the last millennia) and then the arrival of the kids, but it's the early hours for me!

The down side is of course the evening when I just doze off. Tonight I'm going to the Music Week awards (or something), invited by my bosses and it is very likely I will just fall asleep over pudding. They have been warned.

Top show today hopefully, with live music from The Pierces. We have been playing their new album here for a while and I think it's my favourite album of the moment. Great harmonies and terrific songs. And apparently they are very attractive but I haven't watched their videos or checked the photos that much...

And tunes today please (an annual occurrence) for THE CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW and all the paraphernalia that goes with it. GARDENERS and the TOOLS OF THEIR TRADE. That should do us.

Have a satisfying and enriching Tuesday, see you after 5.

Morning all - Lord Ammo (curtsey's) DT team, fellow bloggers

A sunny but still v windy day down here in Oxford; nearly blown off my bike yesterday into the path of a Big Bus - so I am counting my blessings today!

All my ideas have already been suggested (must get up/log in/drink coffee earlier in the morning..) so would like to 2nd (or 3rd?)

Tears for Fears 'Sowing the seeds of love'

Got to be played LOUD though, such a brilliant album for that if you're in the mood.

Plus 2nd Kylie and Nick Cave 'Where the wild roses grow'

Which reminds me of a 'not the nine o'clock news' sketch regarding the capture of a gorilla and his subsequent interview on a chat show plus captor

Captor: 'Of course, when I found Gerald (the gorilla) he was wild'

    Gerald: 'Wild? I was livid!'

Ok, ok, maybe you had to be there... I'll go now - meetings shmeetings to go to, will pass the dull time thinking of all things floral.

    Have a nice morning y'all

    #37 - Mandy - Borderline... genius!

#39 - Great choice... it should just be played anyway, every day, so I am going to officially second (and I have a certificate for this)...

    CHELSEA MORNING - Joni Mitchell

    "We'll talk in present tenses..."

  • Comment number 44.

This time last year Simon played the following tracks on Drivetime:

Tears for Fears — Sowing The Seeds Of Love

Elvis Costello & The Attractions — I Don't Wanna Go To Chelsea

    Scott McKenzie — San Francisco

The Divine Comedy — The Pop Singer's Fear Of The Pollen Count

The Flowerpot Men — Let's Go To San Francisco

Not sure if the last two have been requested yet.

Some brilliant song suggestions above - it must be very difficult for the Constructors nowadays - just having to leave out so many good tunes.

As I have mentioned just a couple of times in here and on Fb - I also am 'into' The Pierces - close sisters who apparently were home educated by their free-thinking, some might say hippy, parents. They've been writing and performing great songs for many years now, so massively deserve their raised profile. Have postponed tea with mother, brother and nephew just to listen to the show live tonight.

Hope the day is fruitful for all - in whatever way you wish ..

Thanks for the help yesterday with my report. Following on from your guidance, the Lessons Learned report started with: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times". I then went on to say how the scope changed to the extent that every thing was thrown in scope apart from the kitchen sink. Tickled me as I was writing it!

While poking about looking for songs today , I came across a song called Kew Gardens by a band called TUDOR LODGE. Some of you may already be famiiliar with them, as I know folk music is popular in some corners of the blog. They have become my Music du Jour today, and it's really rather lovely in a mellow summery way (altho the Kew Gardens song is not among their best). Was so chuffed to hear Odyssey getting a play last night - who'd have thunk it?!? I can't remember anyone actually suggesting it!?! Well done to all menshees.

MCW - I'm sure you will have given the most impressive interview. How soon will you hear?

News from the Shire is - tomorrow evening, I'll be taking part in the first race of a summer series of 5K races and can't understand why I feel so blimmin' nervous. Doubt I can imitate Alsion's success earlier this year but will give it a right good go. I'm not at all competitive but just don't want to suffer the embarrassment of being left behind :s

    Thats a relief Alex, thanks.

'This morning' the washing machine engineer is coming to fit a new motor to my washing machine. Its only taken 4 weeks, so I must be more patient.

Toots, pass a bit of floatiness my way will you.

#93 - MTF - just for you - eyes closed, thumbs touching middle fingers and ohmmmmmmm!!! If that doesn't work, upon arrival of the engineer curl fingers round towards palms, extend middle finger to point skywards and move arm in an up and down motion - please note this will not help with the fixing of the washing machine and probably won't give you the feeling of floatiness desired it but may make you feel a whole lot better. (Please don't tell my Mum I told you do that ;) )

Alex~G - Hope today's report is now underway - any assistance required, please let me know ;) I admire your ability to get 'sink' into the report yesterday - you are a master at your art.

I've just seen on a certain website a picture of a leech said to have been living up a girl's nose!!! The next caption above a picture of the President's limo said 'it has its own oxygen supply' - just wondering if the two stories are connected at all!?!

Btw, I chuckled whilst watching Breakfast this morning (other tv programmes...) and they should the moment when the President's limo got stuck leaving the US Embassy yesterday - i'm sure someone mentioned on here yesterday a choon about getting stuck in a limousine. Life imitating art, indeedio!

    Thank you Toots!

Returned from purchasing sandwich and fruit salad to the news that my report is needed before 3pm as the Chief Executive is leaving early and needs all papers before he goes. I have a meeting that I cannot miss between 1.30 and 2.30 and the report is only half complete.

What am I doing here? I need to WORK!!!!

#96 - of course that would do the trick and probably more successfully than 'the birdie' ;)

I was thinking of you and MCW yesterday. the peeps next door were having some new gutters, soffits and fascia boards fitted and I was really concerned about a wee family of sparrows nesting under the roof tiles. I think one of their babies was turfed out of the nest on Sunday - I found the wee body of an as yet unfeathered birdie (the feathers appeared to have formed on the wing tips) lying in my back garden on Sunday evening. Not sure if the parents booted it out or whether the gusty wind blew it out. V sad, nonetheless.

Btw, MTF, forgot to say - thank you for the tip on not getting a wee playmate for Bernie. I won't bother now. I think he does okay for human company - he spent most of the winter in our kitchen and now we're letting him out to play in our garden in an evening before we poop him back in his hutch.

Oh no, Alex~G - DON'T PANIC! DON'T PANIC! DON'T PANIC MISS P!!! Waaah!!! Good luck! Joking aside - I'm sure the extra pressure will help you produce one of your most impressive pieces of work to date ;) Thinking of you m' Lovely.
