Lord Ammo writes:

Loyal greetings to all bloggers wherever you are. 'Throw those curtains wide' as Guy Garvey is singing at the moment. I have done this metaphorically as I might get thumped otherwise.

After the show last night, I called the reluctant family members and suggested that they drag their weary bottoms down to central London and see what the fuss is all about. If the world's TV has turned up, the least we could do was have a gander ourselves. Surprisingly they all agreed and so we wandered past Buck House, down the Mall and around the Abbey. And I have to tell you, it was really great fun. A fantastic atmosphere; singing, camping, shouting, cars tooting, picnics in full flow, drinking by the flagon and the prospect of many hours of fervour ahead. It was the walk to Wembley/Glastonbury mainstage/royal garden party all in one. We spoiled the feeling somewhat by losing child 3 near Parliament but once he had been recovered, we fought our way home with cynical children declaring they had enjoyed it. A small moment of satisfaction was enjoyed with some Kiwi Chardonnay.

An on-line and live-streamed version of the movie show today on 5 Live from 2 and then the mighty ARF takes off from 5. The All Request Friday in full party mode with the need for the perfect opening song. As ever. But more so.

Have a warm-hearted and celebratory Friday, see you after 5

  • Comment number 4.

Is there anybody out there? It sure is lonely in here!

  • Comment number 5.

Junior Poppet has been set history homework which has me stumped. The assignment:

Write about a building on the Royal Wedding procession route that was restored by Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of London.

I think either junior poppet wrote it down wrong or history teacher is a numpty because:

    - Great Fire petered out at Fetter Lane which is Fleet St, Chancery Lane so did not reach that far west.

    - a gust of wind did take flames to Westminster Abbey but the towers affected were restored by Hawksmoor, not Wren.

    - Wren did restore the Palace of Whitehall after fire, but that was a fire of 1698, not 1666.

    Any ideas?

Good Afternoon Each! Well, I am no Royalist particularly, but neither am I a Republican, subscribing, I suppose to the view espoused by Simon yesterday, that of 'Stephens Nose'. That said, I only caught snatches of todays ceremonies, and I must say that I found the whole thing delightful. As a nation, we do do do's, if you see what I mean, rather well I reckon. And the blogpoppets seem to have done rather well for the happy couple too, gifting them all we could, collectively, that being our blogspace for a bit. Congratulations to the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (is that right).

BBQ stuff now washed up, garden cleared and we're sitting down after a lovely day, with no rain contrary to the weather reports ..

It's good to see the blog's all betterer. I missed you all yesterday.

I'm away with my church this weekend not far from one of Lord Ammo's favourite haunts in Suffolk. It's a gorgeous morning here. Don't think I'll be doing any paddling though - the sea looks a bit rough!

Gazza, thanks for the kind thought. Maybe I could be the dowager Duchess of Cambridge - on second thoughts though, that makes me sound rather old!

I probably won't be around much for the next couple of days as phone blogging can be a bit of a nightmare, so can I wish everybody a great weekend, whatever you're doing.

Be not afeard. The isle is full of noises,

Sounds and sweet airs that give delight and hurt not.

    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments

Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices

That, if I then had waked after long sleep,

Will make me sleep again; and then, in dreaming,

The clouds methought would open, and show riches

Ready to drop upon me, that when I waked,

    I cried to dream again.

Afternoon all from a sunny but very windy East Yorks.

#46 Harry is that 'Caliban' you are quoting from 'The Tempest' and if so, why?

Thoroughly enjoyed what I saw of the wedding - Mr T watched more than me, most of the time with a tear in his eye!

Simon, your evening walk sounds lovely; one of the few times (IMHO) when it would be nice to live in London!

Unfortunately, the ironing is now beconing, so I will love you and leave you, and hopefully get back on Monday!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

  • Comment number 48.

#47 Tortie, 'tis indeed Caliban. I was here in the blog on my own with no one to talk to so I just wrote the first thing that came into my head.

    Morning all

Back in Eastleigh after my day out in the big city seeing Jersey Boys .. what a great show .. so many songs you know all the words too, but Frankie Valli's vocal range fat outstrips mine ..

Saw lots of red, white and blue too, especially along The Mall on our way back to Waterloo (cue another song) ..

And the very nice guard on the train upgraded us to First Class .. I definitely wouldn't pay the extra though ..

Planning on taking Mr from Eastleigh from a walk today, now that his dancing-related injury has finally mended, so catch up all later ..

Have a super Sunday (it is Sunday, isn't it? The days are all a bit of a blur)

    Good morning!

Lovely here in Kent this morning.

All went a it crazy yesterday. Left London at 11am and got to the cottage at 3.15. Normally takes 50 minutes. Car broke down - clutch went right on the dodgiest bit of the A21. Spent an hour and a quarter awaiting the man in the yellow van. He couldn't fix it so towed us to a petrol station just to get us off the road. Then he and Mr P went off to find us a hire car, leaving me and poppets behind. Mr P finally returned with a shiny (working) car and we made it to the cottage. Had to cancel the viewings we had, which was the main reason for coming down here. The poppets thought it all a big adventure!

Back to London later and then take poppets to Waterloo to head back to school. Will miss them.

Big thanks to Harry for the homework help!

    Have a good Sunday everyone!

    Hi Everyone -

The sun is shining and the sky is blue but there's a fiercely cold blustery wind.

Nothing much to report. Mostly being lazy.

#52 Alex Sorry to hear about the car.

#46/#48 Harry - A composer from New Zealand called David Hamilton has written a beautiful setting of Caliban's words for mixed voice adult choirs - called "Caliban's Song". I can find references on Wiki etc but no link on UTube. Maybe you could find it somewhere else.

    Have Nicetimes All.

  • Comment number 56.

#52 Alex-G, not sure I was much help really but I enjoyed reading up on Wren. Please remember to let me know how it turns out.

#55 Thanks for that, Billie. I'll try to find it.

I've been working in Tynemouth today and it's been great. I hope you've all had a good Sunday too.

  • Comment number 57.

It really has been cold here today in spite of the sun in the blue sky - The Wind is the problem. We've lit the burner already.

However, we're going to be Springy/Summery indoors. We're having Stuffed Marrow which is really a July meal when the Marrow is British. This is from Spain (I know -

shame! Bechod! But don't they say the plane was coming anyway?) and I'm going to keyboard some suitable music -

An apparently Ancient Cornish Folk Song called "May Day Carol" which is beautiful and then some Summery things - "Summertime", "A Summer Place", "The Summer Knows" etc.

There's a new Drama tonight - EXILE - John Simm & Jim Broadbent - looks good.

Have Nicetimes whatever you're all doing.

    Love

    Evening all.

Have been out to buy new deckchairs, came back with everything but!!

Still, came back via Wimbleball lake which is looking worryingly low for so early on in the year, but is in such a beautiful setting.

Then on request, I was dropped off at the top of the Brendon Hills and followed a bit of the old mineral line, then took the leafy lanes back down towards Roadwater. The abundance of wild flowers was once more breathtaking and I did my best to capture their beauty on my camera. If help is available, they may be on fb later.

I have been looking forward to watching the Exile drama tonight, great line up Billie.

We are dining a la M&S tonight, it was a big mistake though going food shopping on an empty stomach! The fridge is full to bursting!

If the sun would just come out tomorrow, life would just about be perfect.

    Well almost!!

And another Monday off, how lovely.

#57 Billie, thanks for the reminder - had forgotten about marrow when planning our allotment.

#58 MTF, what a lovely post.

#59 Brandon, Yes, I think we have been spoilt with all the lovely sunshine lately.

#60 Paul, I saw a fox strolling down the street as we left a friend's house in urban Gravesend on friday and we seem to be getting more magpies by the day.

Going to hop off now before this jumping blog throws me on the floor.

    Have a good day.x

Good morning one and all. Another beautiful sunny day here in Cumbria but the wind is quite cold.

#61 Julia - Tynemouth is a lovely little town with a ruined castle and a gorgeous beach. Like most British seaside towns though it has seen better days. I spent all day on the railway (metro) station: every week they have a flea market there but from May to October they hold a bi-monthly book fair on one of the platforms. There are always plenty of customers but I mainly go to buy; it's a good place to find decent stock at reasonable prices. I did well both buying and selling. Next one is on 3rd July.

And how lovely to be back, sun bronzed (despite the rain) and well rested. Back at work today so I can have a day off next Mon post Cambridge blog-meet. I'm the only one in on my corridor so will have to go searching for company. Looks like no problems arose in my absence which is always nice. Got my iPod (other music playing........) turned up loud and proud. The sun has chosen to hide today which is rather more considerate than the wasp that stung me on the finger at 7am yesterday. Ouchy. I don't react well to wasp stings - long story going back to my childhood which I have never forgiven my mother for, tho it wasn't really her fault ;-) - so not best pleased.

Anyhoo, best not ramble on. Hope all is well in blogpoppet land. look forward to catching up at long last. Fingets crossed work calms down now.

Morning all .. beautiful sunshine but the wind is blowing a right hooley .. my Wills and Kate bunting's in tatters now ..

Mr from Eastleigh is limping again this morning .. we enjoyed a picturesque walk along the South Downs Way which was very up, and very down .. breathtaking views to the soth coast made it worthwhile ..

Our target destination was Uppark (we have to aim for a tea shop, that's part of the deal), a National Trust property on the Hants/West Sussex border .. in 1989 it was entirely burnt out in a fire caused by a workman leaving his blowtorch on in the attic while he had a cuppa on the lawn .. 30 fire engines attended, and volunteers set up a human chain to remove portable treasures, while firemen worked in small groups removing larger and built-in items ..

The restoration is amazing, although they have left some of the battle scars in place ..

On the way back to the car we gathered some wild garlic to add to the mash we had with our toad-in-the hole .. rather yummy ..

I miss Lord Ammo :( Hope he enjoyed his wind-swept fish and chips though!

It's been a strange old day really (well a strange few days tbh) The Royal Wedding was lovely, but from another era :/ Today I got up (at 5 am!) to news of Osama Bin Laden's demise, nothing to say on that here. Had a nap and drank far too many caffeine filled energy drinks. I feel completely drained by the endless holidays. I miss writing my blog and working on my novel. I miss having even five minutes to myself during the day. Will catch up with Exile on iPlayer in the week. Loving The Walking Dead, even if last night's episode left me with tears in my eyes! Oh and Doctor Who completely messed with my head this week...

    Hi All

I've had a great weekend away in sunny-but-windy Suffolk. We did some lovely walking, punctuated by cups of tea and ice cream (mint choc chip and clotted cream - yummy!). We spent an afternoon in Southwold, which has to be one of the most picturesque places in England, and sat on the green sampling some of the local tipple ;o) It's actually quite a special place for us - for those of you who know the story of our son, it sort of all started there. Then Mr B and I went to have a look at the harbour, as we've been thinking about taking the boat to Southwold. Unfortunately, it's quite a tricky entrance so you can only really do it in very calm conditions, and there are only a few visitors' moorings when you get inside. Still, maybe one day... On the way back to our base at Sizewell, we went to have a look at Walberswick, another very pretty village just across the harbour from Southwold but about 5 miles away by car. In the evenings we had a talent show (at which our GB shone with his rendition of 'Hey Jude'!), a quiz (which our team won, naturally) and karaoke, plus lots of eating and enjoying each other's company (no drinking unfortunately - nothing to do with our church, it was a rule of the conference centre). About 60 people went, ranging in age from 20 months to just short of 90. I'm now exhausted, and looking forward to going back to work for a rest.

    Good evening,

Some really lovely posts today. It's so nice being able to glimpse at other peoples' lives on this 'ere blog!

Alison, Mr 39 (38 actually) is also limping a little again. Went over on his ankle down an unexpected step. Hope your Mr E's heals quickly.

Harry, What a great use for a station platform! Hope the trip proves to be profitable in the shop this week.

    MTF, What's new?

Mo, Ouch - Hope the wasp sting doesn't prove to be too troublesome. Also hope being alone at work didn't make the day drag too much. I caught the last 7 or so songs on Tony Blackburn but didn't know what the chart was for. Seemed weird hearing "Do They Know It's Christmas" over May bank holiday.

Zoe, Hang on in there my lovely.xxx

Gazza, I suspect it was on sales of records/cds/downloads. That would explain why Matt Cardle (who?) and 2 versions of Band Aid made it.

Harry, I learned something new this morning that you no doubt already know - VAT is applied to ebooks and not to printed books, one of the reasons ebooks can be more expensive. I have just converted back to the paper version! You would have been proud of me for being over on my luggage thanks to the 7 books I had packed (not to mention the 2 that I bought in the airport on the way out and the 1 that was in my hand baggage mid read ;-) )

Hope hobbling OHs get better soon.

Another gorgeous day here. Actually, as far as I'm concerned it can rain now if it likes. At least for the next few days - just as long as it's nice again for the weekend.

Alex, I didn't know you were a Suffolk girl. How lovely to have spent your holidays there - I'm sure you have some great memories.

Same wind here again but bright and sunny.

I'm confused. Is Simon back today? I thought Gazza had said Richard A. was sitting in so that Simon can have his Bank Holiday Friday.

#74 Julia - You have started something. We don't have DINNER - we have SUPPER.

We used to have Dinner when we were at school - but that was at Lunch time. Now we have lunch and supper - don't know when or why we went posh! We never have TEA either - that could be because we don't have children?

What do others call their meals?

BTW - it was an upmarket Sausage & Mash & Tomatoes made like shepherd's pie in individual dishes and it was lovely.

#78 Simon tweeted yesterday that Drivetime is back today but I also recall hearing that Lord Ammo was off until Weds. Hmmmmmm.

Sunny here too but not nearly as warm as it was for me last week.

According to the Radio Times (other listings magazines also available) Simon is back today. Maybe Gazza just made a mistake.

    Morning All,

Busy, busy weekend, but very enjoyable. I now don't have a kitchen, two walls have been knocked down, dust everywhere! Mtf may have three wheels on her lawnmower, but I only have two rings on my hob! Can't wait for the new kitchen to be installed. A good excuse for a few dinners/suppers/lunches out!

Mo - glad you had a lovely holiday, all suntanned and rested up I hope!

Psl - Glad everything went ok, and I hope you are getting plenty of r & r. TB - don't you just love him? ;-)

Deebee- Suffolk is one of my favourite counties, and as you know, you are guaranteed to get the BEST fish and chips!

Gazza- I take it that you didn't like The One Hit Wonders Show?

Alex - sorry to hear about the 'adventure' you had with the car.

Now just as I post this, a new blog will appear as if just by magic!

    Good morning,

***BREAKING NEWS*** Gazza is right. The Good Lord's chair will, this evening, be occupied by the rather marvellous Mr Allinson. Can't help wondering - has it been planned for months or did someone listen to popular opinion?

    PSL, Hope you are okay.x

#78 Posh Billie Pepper, LOL! Well my favourite meal is afternoon tea. Thank you to the Duchess of Devonshire for that.

#79 Alison, My favourite "mum" quote is when mine says "I never moan - I merely comment and make observations."

#85 MTF, Oh my word! Lots of take away menus to hand. Will be worth it all in the end.

    Have a good day.x

    Morning all

Very busy weekend as we organised a surprise party for the OH's birthday - the one where life begins allegedly! Haven't had time to catch up.

We then spent two hours cleaning up the cat's blood on sunday morning as she managed to lose a top tooth, sign of old age unfortunately, but she seems ok now.

Last minute revision for tax exam tomorrow, so I only pooped in quicly to say hello.

    Cheers

    Well done Gazza!

And from quite a way back - Alex G did you read "I Think I Love You". Would have helped you with the poppets Justin Bieber devotion ;-)

#89 What a busy blogger you are Andy. Good luck with the exam.

P.S. Did you spot my "deliberate" mistake? MTF = Chickster. Sorry ladies.xx

    Morning All,

Hope you enjoyed your long weekend, whatever you got up to.

#85 - Madchick, my kitchen was in a similar state to yours a couple of weekends ago. Have to say that it has only progressed so far as freshly plastered walls and a lick of paint. Doesn't that dust get everywhere? No matter how much I try and clear it away, it reappears as if by magic. Hoepfully, the mucky stuff is out of the way now and I'll be able to get some semblance of tidyness, lol! Have still got my slot in cooker wired in...have been working around it...so can still 'throw' together a proper dinner (we ain't posh...yet hehehe!).

#88 Julia39, Does this mean no theme of the day? :-(

Welcome back all blogpoppets who have been otherwise engaged. look forward to having a full house.

MCW, hope it is all over for you soon.

Billie - lunch and dinner for me, although dinner used to be what I had in the middle of the day at school.

*shudders* at flash backs to kitchen project here 5 years ago.....it just went on and on.....BUT it was well worth it :-) getting all the trades folk to come in sequence was an art, and deciding who did what....the floor person wouldn't lay the screed on the underfloor heating *sucking on teeth* that was the electricians job....delay while he came back and laid screed....
