#33 Deevs, I enjoyed that Gerry Rafferty tribute show, too. Especially all the anecdotes from the bloggers old and new. What a good idea to have the occasional show dedicated to one artist or group (whether they are still very much with us or not), as you say it would help to encourage more people to come and have a 'chat'.



I must admit to only suggesting songs that I would like to hear, and, hand on heart, am not particularly upset if I don't get a mensh, (yesterday for instance), but it is nice when I do hear my name!

I'm not entirely sold on the idea of just posting one suggestion. Two reasons.

One is that I don't think that multiple selections gives you an advantage. I haven't had a mensh this year at all. That isn't a complaint, I like the challange of trying to find songs to fit the theme. Mine tend to be a bit more album track orientated, and therefore not so likely to be chosen, I suspect, but therefore are also not likely to preclude offers of ideas from others.

The second reason, is that I think that the musical aspect of this blog is what sets it apart from other blogs, and helps to bind it. Deliberately severing most of the suggestions, I don't think would be benificial in this regard. I, for one, like to chase up songs that others have suggested on these pages, and give them a listen. Why deny that. A mensh is nice, but if that is all you want, then there are other methods of chasing one. Twitter, fb etc.



So, if next Wednesday you do decide to have a single suggestion each, count me out. I will continue along the same path I have for over a year. This isn't meant to be critical of anyone elses opinion, just another addition to the debate. Love you all.

I rarely have the brain power or time to post more than one suggestion! I think of a suitable song, but not the artist - go off to Google it and by the time I get back here, it's already been chosen! But I don't mind, I just like being part of the blog - most people on here's musical knowledge is far greater than mine, so I just enjoy hearing different things being played.

Oooh lively debate as to whether we should restrict ourselves to one choon choice or not. I'm lucky if I can think of even one choon that is suitable so I'm not too worried how it goes - youch - just got a splinter in my bottom from sitting on the fence. If a mensh is your one and only desire, 3 worders are quite a good way of sneaking a mensh in under the wire.

That's a well thought out and balanced argument against having a One Hit Wednesday and has actually made me think about it a little differently.



I, too, think this blog works at its best when it's in free flow mode - unhindered by rules and contrivances.

A form of tacit self-regulation - after all, we are all adults here.

For example, if we are lucky enough to be mentioned one day, it would seem 'good manners' to hold back a bit for a day or so.



I, also, find the notion that if you suggest a song - you somehow 'own' it. Wha..?

Post mortem posts saying "you was robbed" or "someone else NOT from the blog got the mensh" only serve to underline such possessiveness.



Time to wind a few necks in?

I am like Tortie - my suggestions often need some Google help as I can't remember the artist or the proper song title! By the time I have found it, someone else has picked it. No worries though - I enjoy the challenge! I have had 7 menshes with the crown being the ARF - just loved that. My favourite time on the blog is after lunch when it turns to general chat and banter.

I used to be a bit of a fan - he was something of a weird crush for a while, and I met him once. The only disappointing celebrity encounter I've had - went off him after that. Anyway, I saw him in concert a few times, and on one occasion he changed the words to 'Your a lady' as follows:

For what it's worth (not a great deal), I agree with everything written by Paul in Sheffield. I too like to see a wide and varied outpouring of ideas. Seeing what others have put may spark something in my head - something completely unrelated to the theme but I may not have heard it for a while - it's all good stuff.



I also have a small but manageable 'competitive' streak (or so my family tells me). So if I can only log in here mid-morning I like to have a scan through what has already been suggested and try to think of something different (I can't today, but there we go).



A further problem with the one-selection idea - who would police it? And how would someone posting for the first time on a Wednesday know about it? This place should be as welcoming and fluffy as possible (and it is). Odd 'rules' known only to some will not help in this regard (nor will impenetrable acronyms but that's my only little bug bear and I know that all I'd need to do is ask...)

Technical question - does anyone know what the short form of Kilonewton is? - I've guessed at kN but having asked th'internet I can only see 'N' - I may have to leave it typed out in its long form.
