Ho and indeed ho
Well this is it boys and girls of the blog. The last one before Christmas (obviously) and the last of the year. Christmas greetings to you all. This completes a whole year of blogging! Thank you for joining in! I hope next year we can do more and better. Thanks for all the song suggestions and show comments, here's to making 2011 really rather top notch.
First post-blog job is picking up the Turkey followed by being jolly. And I will stay being jolly until someone convinces me otherwise.
Favourite moment of the day so far was a man from the National Secular Society on Radio 4 accuse the Pope of pontificating. If anyone is permitted to pontificate surely it's the Pontiff?
Continuing on the multiple-channel theme, I'm on 5 Live this afternoon at 2 with the Wittertainment Christmas Special, part of which is a quiz featuring the skills of Toby Jones, Jason Isaacs and Mark Lawson. We recorded for hours on Tuesday and it was a fine evening I think. Quite a lot of what kept everyone going will have to be edited out I'm afraid, for legal reasons mainly but it should still be worth a listen.
Then our Christmas Eve All Request Friday promises to be great fun. I love being on for Christmas Eve and look forward to being a part of quite a few Christmases tonight. But we need a song as brilliant as yesterday's. Nice one Alison in Eastleigh. Bob Dylan's mad Christmas rant was great fun and just the right way to kick things off. Your choice is required!
Wishing you and yours a thrilling and heartwarming Christmas, see you after 5 and then on the 4th of January.

Enjoy your break Simon et al. I'm afraid that being of the Scottish persuasion I need another day to recover from New Year so I will not be back listening until 5th Jan.

Alison, I let out a yip yip yibble when I heard your mention last night, well done you!
Yes the blog has come a long way in the last year. Do you remember in the early days when Simon was unsure of how his new Drivetime blog would be received after the huge success of Chris' Drivetime blog previously? Sorry that was a sentence and a half!)The Twitterers, at the time, seemed to have preference on the oldies choices. However, the blog following grew along with the newsy longer blog posts from our friendly DJ. I pooped over one day from the CLP blog, and have been here ever since!(The CLP blog is great too) I can honestly say that I have met some really lovely people who I hope don't mind me thinking of them now as friends. Children in Need was a fabulous day as not only did I get to the hallowed Radio 2 studios, but I also met some of my new blog friends too, and you did not disappoint(but I knew that already!);-)
So I would like to thank Simon for starting this whole thing, for generously allowing us all to participate in the show and for sharing with us his thoughts and ideas, and for persevering with us and our sometimes mad suggestions!
One day MTF, we will wear that nice young man down and get Twilight played. It takes dogged determination, and if there is anyone who has that, it is you!
You are all a lovely mad lot, and I mean that in the nicest possible way! I look forward to the madness and frolics continuing into 2011.

I was a lurker to begin with, but everybody seemed so friendly that it wasn't long before I decided to join in. I remember the first time I suggested a song, being so terrified Simon would actually choose it (I had never heard my name on the radio before!) that I didn't have the nerve to suggest any for a few days afterwards! How things have moved on... We have become such a lovely, friendly community and now I wouldn't be without my daily visits to blogland. As Mcw says, it was really lovely (am I over-using that word?) to meet a few of you at CiN, (not to mention meeting Simon, Matt and Rebecca!) and I really hope to be able to meet up with some more of you in 2011.

This is slightly higher than I first though, but bumped it up a bit because
If the wonderful 'Twilight' is picked as the ARF, we could be up a hundred or so posts before you can shake whistle or hoot a bell
Then there is the (obviously remote) possiblity of hic hic blogging, having to say the same thing several times to get it to make sense

As for myself, I am seriously looking forward to my annual lie-in tomorrow. It is not something to be taken lightly when you have to be up at 5 a.m., seven days a week, and it is only in recent years that such a thing is possible. When my son was younger, like with everyone else, Christmas morning was full of very early morning excitement. I am hoping that tomorrow, he will, like his Father, be spending a goodly time lying in something of a stupor for an extended hour or two. I have already partaken of the first festive rum, and will shortly be joining a few friends in mixing grape and grain in stupid proportions.
So, until a later time, when I shall be back amongst you in a somewhat bleary state, it only remains for me to wish you all a Nadolig Llawen, Nollaig Shona Dhuit, Nodlaig mhaith chugnat, Nollaig chridheil agus Bliadhna mhath ùr, Nadelik looan na looan blethen noweth, Merry Christmas.

Reputedly, originally called “A Visit from St. Nicholas” published anonymously in The Troy Sentinel (New York State) - December 23rd. 1823.
The Night before Christmas - A Poem by Clement C. Moore
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.
His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Mr B was very pleased with his present, which I can now reveal to be tickets to see Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood at the Royal Albert Hall. I'm hoping he'll take me with him! We had a lovely day, marred only slightly when I took the dog for a walk in the afternoon and slipped over twice on the ice, which resulted in hurting my neck. Not badly, but I think it's going to be a bit stiff for a few days.
Today my brother and nephew arrive. My nephew's 10, and SO full of energy! Child 2 (nearly 18) has been practising on the Wii (other games consoles also available...) to make sure she beats him. Not sure that's entirely fair...
I didn't manage to listen to the Christmas quiz - will ithingy it later. But yes, our esteemed leader did do very well - I remember being quite impressed when Alex_G, MTD, Payre, Rips and I went to the recording. Of course, he must learn quite a lot from reading this blog, so we are probably partially responsible for his team's success...
;o)
Welcome back Katy - you've been much missed. And just in time to do the stats for Alison's latest blog sweepstake - how fortuitous!
