Went to see them at the NEC many moons ago, and my friend and I decided to take our guitars along in order to try and get them signed by Richie Sambora (poor deluded youngsters, we were!). Anyway, we walked round to the stage door (well, stage loading bay at the NEC!) and managed to bypass the rudimentary security as the crew were unloading (this was before the days of massive security cordons, etc.) - we had a long chat to the road manager and a few techies, and blagged our way onto the stage, where the crerw took out photo, complete with our guitars, beside Richies backline stack. They even said they would look after our guitars until the end of the show, so we didn't have to walk all the way back to the car and drop them off. At the end of the show we gave the guys a hand pushing the crates into the vans - and it was a fantastic show. Ah, happy days!

It was a couple of years after my NEC escapade that the same friend and I went to the annual Mosh-fest that is the Monsters Of Rock at Donington, when they headlined. No such chance of getting anywhere near the road crew then, and the band arrived by helicopter - how bands change!

Good Morning Each! I had never spotted the, erm, meaning, that Simon is alluding to above in 'Summer Of 69' either. Cripes! And today it's BJ. I make no further comment.

After the Bryan Adams 69 stunner yesterday, are we allowed to tell stories about our memories of BJ?!?!?

two reasons....firstly I'm an RE teacher, nuff said

Secondly, this has been played at the weddings of my sisters and me, leading to my dad and I bouncing around the dancefloor playing air guitar and then being told off by my mother who really doesn't understand music!

Apparently it was bad enough when I was in my wedding dress, but at my middles sister's wedding last month dad and I raced each other through the marquee to the dancefloor.... my mother was not impressed at all!!

Simon, you were kind enough to play a First record of the show (Superman Tonight) a few months back for me (well, for my husband who isn't a Bon Jovi fan and who tolerates my madness with great good humour - he once drove from Leicester to Huddersfield to bring me the correct tickets for a show!).



I've seen Bon Jovi over 40 times. My first show was in 1998 when I saw Richie Sambora at Manchester Apollo on his Undiscovered Soul tour - before that I'd never had enough money or anyone to go with - my best friend Kaz and I drove to Manchester, got lost, had an amazing evening - almost got near enough to get an autograph after the show.



Favourite memories?

A road trip in 2001 with 4 now dear friends - getting front row Richie's side at Gateshead. I took 150 photos, all of which were rubbish and out of focus. Massive emotional meltdown during Never Say Goodbye at Cardiff (having spent hours in the fanclub line sitting on a kerb waving at the hourly open top bus tours). Taking my daughter to her first show at Coventry and hearing the opening bars of Dry County, grabbing her and yelling in excitement and amazement - she knows ALL the Bon Jovi songs ....and she's happily telling her University friends "It's not HIM, it's THEM - Bon Jovi are a band, Jon Bon Jovi is the man...." (trained her well).



Do I go on about the 100s of CDs, videos, DVDs, Tshirts, pieces of memorabilia, pictures and calendars? My other obsession is rugby union but it's way down on the list compared to Bon Jovi. Some folk mock the obsession, I've heard all the sniping remarks and rude comments over the years, but if you connect with something, if it brings you happiness, then who cares about people who don't "get it"? Everyone likes different stuff, so allow me to like my favourite band :)



Sadly - being a carer for elderly disabled father, and a part time job to pay for kidlet in University means I only managed 1 show at the O2 this summer, and will probably only manage 1 next summer. But I live through my many online Bon Jovi friends, some I've known online for 12 years and never met, some I see regularly for DVD evenings and endless chats...for the friends I've made I am always grateful to Jon, Richie, Tico, David and Hugh.



If I could request one song from tonight's set, it would be either Dry County or In These Arms Tonight.



Oh, and can you please send Richie Sambora up to Leicester after the show? I missed getting his autograph in 1998 (we were 5 people away and security said that was all) so maybe he could pop in later and have a cup of coffee and a biscuit. I've got chocolate hobnobs.

I saw BJ at Wembley Stadium in about 1993 (These Days tour) and Van Halen were the support act. It was an incredibly hot summer day and when Van Halen did Jump, I amassed a fortune in pound coins as the crowd JUMPED and the coins escaped from their pockets, mid JUMP!



I almost got enough to buy myself a warm, watered down, over-priced Wembley pint!!

Keep The Faith the song is fantastic. Fabulous groove to it, really hope they play that this evening. It worked brilliantly in their MTV Unplugged thing I thought.



Does MTV Unplugged still exist? I'm a bit like Sir Elton, can't stand any of that MTV and VH1 nonsense and haven't tuned in to any of those channels for years.



Elton's right, bring back Whistle Test. It was the defining music show, even for the latter years when Hepworth, Ellen and Skinner presented it. Nothing since has matched it.

Just a quick poop by - it's been one of those days... Well, 'Summer of 69' eh? Who knew? Not me for one - and clearly not Simon either!



No BJ stories for me as I'm not a fan. Although I have a friend who's obsessed with Jon Bon Jovi. She's spent about 2 month's salary on something called a 'crush package' or somesuch for one of their gigs - gives her backstage access and everything. LazyRizzo, you and her would get on like a house on fire...!

to pass this off as a BON JOVI show is ridiculous quite frankly. Seven songs in a two hour programme interspersed with inane drivel about board games is just a poor attempt at a decent show i have to say. I am thoroughly disappointed with the BBC.

LOL - too many people just not getting it - don't care - this band has brought me a group of close-knit friends, an extended network of contacts across the globe and a LOT of amazing happy memories. Really enjoying this show :)

Bon Jovi rocks my world and have done since i was 6 years old, I've been to seen them on every tour and this year i had an amazing time in London and Paris and was fortunate to meet them on 3 occasions. Looking forward to next year with a road trip to London, Dublin and europe. Big JOVI love to all the guys and their fans.

@lophoman - probably not. I don't think this format is the way it's usually done, is it? It'd be better to have a single 1 hour show in its own space - but for me, any Bon Jovi is acceptable and makes me happy.

Loving the odd Bon Jovi track......usually - taking the kids on the drive home listening to the blessed Kiss fm,got the call to tune in I heard there was Bon Jovi playing live and would like to thank you for not only making my day hearing my fav band but the kids sat there sulking so pure silence while a subtle head shake took me back to 1984.

I'd like to point out that the real reason for the BJ concert in front of only 100 invited guests is to raise a bit of dosh for C.I.N. I reckon that the band have done the charity proud by giving of their time and efforts. I know that they are getting a bit of free publicity, but that is beside the point. I'm not a great Jovi fan, but, hey, they don't seem to have been hurting me.



The one problem that I do have, though, is that considering what the occasion is for, C.I.N. seems to have been shoved aside somewhat.

#75 I think we can forgive them if it doesn't really fit the normal show structure as it's not a normal situation. This was all in aid of Children in Need wasn't it? At least in terms of where the proceeds from the entry costs to the competition are going.

It also would appear that we have "new" listeners & bloggers who have joined R2 tonight because they heard that BJ were on.



And, maybe, because they're not regular listeners to DT and don't know the usual format of DT, and were expecting a CONCERT, maybe they're disappointed. That's understandable.

Yeah I guess you are right - I rang in several times for the competition so I have given some funds to CIN - and got some live music into the bargain. Sad that my post wasn't mentioned though. Never mind.
