Not listening to much new music at the moment, but we did discover (and buy) Lady Antebellum (sp?) after hearing them on the show earlier in the year.

It's a lovely sunny one here on Anglesey.

Simon - you asked what new stuff we're listening to. I'm going to tell of two - not new artists but new music. Really taken by the new Take That (WAH!) CD. This is a new direction for them. Not all balady like The Flood - a lot more techno-pop - The track KIDZ is an example.



Then there's Annie Lennox - again not a new artist. We heard her on Graham's show and he played a couple of tracks from her new CD - Christmas Cornucopia. She has done traditional carols but has given each a new twist. Her version of "In The Bleak Midwinter" was spine-tingling. Her single "Universal Child" is also included.



We've bought the CD but will wait a few weeks before playing it.

New music - well, I've been listening to Blair Dunlop's E.P., imaginatively titled, "EP". In all good record shops now. Blair is Ashley Hutchings' son (Ashley being, I'm sure you know, one of the founders of Fairport and Steeleye Span). The EP is stunning, especially considering Blair was 16 / 17 when he recorded the music. An interesting aside is that Blair was cast as "Little Willy Wonka" (with the huge braces on his teeth) in the Johnny Depp remake, and he is currently touring in the Bill Kenwright production of "Lark Rise to Candleford". Blair's definitely one to watch!

Blimey, reading back my post, it sounds as though I'm his agent! :-)

Well since you asked....

SOUTHGATE and LEIGH have a new album out called "WHERE WE ARE". It's fantastic and a rarity because all the family (from the two year old to my sevensomething father) love it. All the stuff on it appears to be original with particular favourites being "FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER" and "NOW THAT WE'VE MADE UP". A short track called "Bluebells" always makes me cry because it brings back memories of my late grandmother who the two year old is named after.

We liked it so much we went on t'intenet and bought the CD but I think you can listen to it for free on their website: www.southgateandleigh.com Take a listen...

If it was a three word day mine would be "Oven Glove Queen" because as I started typing this the two year old was dancing round the kitchen to "Don't Stop Me Now" with the oven gloves on her feet.

As regards new music - new to me that is - check out Cherry Suede from Canada - great songs, brilliant live music, free downloads of new live tracks from their website and the related link Cherry Suede Up Close and Personal. One reviewer said "If Keith Urban and Bon Jovi had a baby, it would sound like Cherry Suede." I think they're far more original than that!

Just got the weekly newsletter from "Jasmine, four and a half's" school in which they announce the School Council (of which Jasmine's is a member) raised £77 for CiN in a cookie sale on Wednesday. So well done Downham in Essex School's School Council for their efforts too. Every little helps!

#43 - well done indeedio to Jasmine four and a half's school :) The two GBs' (gorgeous boys) schools have been fundraising for CiN. The elderGB's mate had his legs waxed at lunchtime - youch! The youngerGB iced digestive biccies and topped them with Smarties (other hyperactivity inducing sweets blah, blah, blah ...). He's not had a good day tho'. He and a few other Year 6s were hauled in front of the Headteacher for watching Shaun of the Dead on his mate's multi media hand held thingy on a recent school trip. Apparently it was a half hour lecture in trust. Kids!!! Never a dull moment.

Highlights - hug and kiss from CLP, Mr Mayo remembering my ARF and saying it was a cracking choice, and having a fag outside with Sally Traffic. Just too cool!

I had THE BEST time yesterday! Didn't sleep much last night my head was buzzing so much from it all. Very hard work, but enormous fun too! It was lovely to meet all the blogpoppets, especially Madchickster, Alex_Girl, MTF, misstoedipper, Nicrolastic and of course the wonderful Deevs, to whom I owe an enormous debt for letting me be a part of it! Plus all the lovely CLP bloggers - too many names to mention.



And there were one or two familiar faces in the phone room throughout the day, including (in roughly the order I saw them):

I didn't really bother with autographs, apart from getting Chris to sign his book for me. But I managed to get my picture taken with quite a few of them. Not Amanda Holden, obviously - she's far too pretty. But I didn't have any such qualms about any of the middle aged DJs...



But it wasn't just about meeting the celebrities. The callers were amazing - there were some really moving stories, people wanting to pledge money in memory of someone who'd died, schools and brownie packs raising money, and so on. It was really heartwarming to know how much people are prepared to give, even these days.



I'll post a fuller report on the blogpoppets' FB page, and I'll probably be messaging a few people with the "OMG!!!" fangirl-y version!



Roll on next year - and hope to see a few more blogpoppets there.

Some of you may have heard this - there was a screen up in the phone room so we could see what was going on in the studio, and a camera on top so whoever was broadcasting could see us. About ten to 5, apparently, Richard Allinson said "Would Simon Mayo please stop hugging the girls in the phone room and come and do his show!" LOL! Mr B heard it. I must 'listen again'.

MTF. There was once a young lad that placed his name on the waiting list for a paper round with me, for my shop. He was, however, a little over 15 years old at the time, and although I had known him almost all of his life, I could not offer him a job at that point, as I had no vacancies. By the time a vacancy had arisen, he was gainfully employed elsewhere, at a club on a lane not too far from my shop. These days he is employed at a park. That young man is now an adult, and has, on occasion returned to my shop to gloat. His name is Johnathon Forte (pronounced fort), and is a thouroughly likeable fellow most of the time. He last came acallin, on a gloat based mission last season (I dont mean Summer, but last football season). For a while today, I was expecting a similar call soon. That was until Kris Commons restored the lead to my beloved Derby County that the rotter Forte had so cruelly (but deservedly) taken from us a short while earlier.

Hi there Simon,



I have been listening to a fantastic vocalist called Jo Hamilton recently. Think someone else has mentioned her but as part of the group Rainbow Chasers. Jo has recorded her own album called Gown and to say it is magical is an understatement! Each song has been put together beautifully and her voice..... well, it's wonderful. Just wanted to pass that on as I'm sure other people will love her too :)

I'll second Greg, above: Jo Hamilton all the way! The album is wonderful and has really grown on me over several listens; I am mad for her promo CD of Christmas/winter tunes, plus her Youtube vids of playing the airpiano are jaw-dropping. All round brilliant! More earnest than Lily Allen, more soothing than Florence and the Machine, more edgy than Corinne Bailey Rae, and may be jockeying for first place (not really... ) with Kate Bush!
