It's the hair, stupid
Heater on full, frost scraped from windscreen and three men in shorts spotted on the school run. Not joggers, not athletes of any kind, just wearing holiday shorts and flip-flops. Have concluded they must be Drivetimers re-balancing their thermostat.
Yesterday's Homework Sucks! expert in case you missed him, was answering why some people feel the cold more than others. He concluded it's how exposed to the cold you were as a kid but that you can gradually rebalance yourself in later years. This entails (so he argued) slowly exposing yourself to the cold over a long period of time and you'll get yourself re-calibrated. Short-wearers in 2C must be giving it a go. Or impressing a lady.
Today, playing live, is Taylor Swift who has the most fabulous hair of all our live guests this year. Saw her play live last year and it has a starring role in the show. It's tossed, stroked, shaken, tousled and generally required to do a lot of work. This isn't why she's booked of course-she was the biggest selling musician in the US in 2008, has a huge following here and a new album of pop-country songs for you.
And songs today with a cutting theme I think. CUTS is what we are talking about here and you know what to do I believe...
Have an optimistic Wednesday, see you at 17.05

"Cuts Like a Knife" - Bryan Adams, fits the bill I guess.
For file 13, "Burn" by Deep Purple
Steve Winwood last night. Veered between quite good and blindingly brilliant.
For me he spent too long behind his Hammond and some of the funkier songs become excuses for extended sharing round of solos (note: drum solos will be banned following the revolution).
When he strapped on what I believe to be a custom-shop nylon-stringed, Thinline Telecaster...well the tone from that was just gorgeous, and straight into Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Back Home"......awesomely good. The man can play guitar brilliantly, wish he would do it more often. And he still has a great voice.
Only two other songs featured him on guitar. Fortunately one was Traffic's "Dear Mr Fantasy" in the encore, which was the song that persuaded me to buy a ticket and go and see him. Again, great voice and great guitar.
In the ridiculous queue to pay to get out of the car-park a woman was bemoaning the fact that he didn't play "Valerie" and that she didn't want to hear the early stuff. Prefer Valerie rather than "Can't Find My Way Back Home" or "Dear Mr Fantasy"? Strange Kinda Woman.
It was a bit odd not to see a bass player, but Winwood managed plenty of bottom end via Hammond and, presumably, pedals, and the sax player doubled up on the Hammond while Winwood was on guitar.
Interesting night and glad I went.

I like to do these events in proper order - Hallowe'en, then Bonfire Night and then, and only then, does the work begin in readiness for the C word. Mind you, come 6th November, I turn into a big kid and start getting over-excited!! I do have to hold myself in check abit as Mr P's birthday is mid-December and I try not to let the two occasions merge!

I have just spent over half-an-hour washing and drying all our cups, plates, cutlery, etc. as our dishwasher has decided not to wash them, but just deposit a heavy coating of salt - despite putting them on the rinse cycle and a hot wash! If I hadn't washed them, we would have had nothing to use for the rest of the day or tomorrow - but did any of my male colleages offer to help? One came into the kitchen and 'huffed' because he couldn't get to the sink to fill the kettle, and asked me to let him know when I'd finished! I'm only the PA to the finance director (his boss), but I know my place!
