Romper Room - late 60's/ early 70's. Never saw it in this country as lived abroad as a child but the format was the same. 8 or so children aged 6-8 with an Aunty in charge. Played games, sang songs - sortvof Playschool for the next age up. I used to love it when the did "Punchinello, Little Fellow" and hit an inflatable clown. Waiting for Aunty to "see" you in her mirror was a bit like waiting for a mensh!!

Gotcha, I must have started school and missed it. Bet she wouldn't have seen me anyway!!

Just pooped back briefly after picking up daughters repaired car- it had a little altercation with a deer!



I remember Romper Room too, I think it was on Anglia ITV along with Twizzle and Paulus the Woodgnome. But the best by far was The Sooty Show with Harry Corbett, I loved it when I was little and my children loved it when Matthew Corbett took over the reins in the early nineties.

Miss Rosalyn would hold her mirror up and it would go all swirly and then clear and it was as though she was looking at you through the TV....saying something like 'romper bomper stomper boo boys and girls who have been good today I can see "name check"'....whoop whoop aged 4 if you got a mensh...as you say just like on Drivetime

#48 I do remember Pogles Wood with Pippin and Tog, narrated by the recently departed Oliver Postgate. I vaguely remember Twizzle being a woodland man (think Woodentops) with extendable arms! I was very young at the time!

Oh and Lizzie Dripping! A little girl who was forever getting into trouble and who always wore wellies!

PIPKINS!!!! I remember my mum picking me up from playgroup, taking me back home, and sitting me down with my lunch (soup or a boiled egg) and watching Pipkins!

Good ARFternoon everyone. Apologoes for my lateness.



One of the things I love about this blg (apart from each and every one of it's gorgeous members!) is the way the discussions develop. I will try to catch up:



- Happy birthday to KatyMac's GD and Madchickster's GB!



- I'm quite fortunate in that our family birthdays are spread quite evenly over the year. But when I was a child, most of our birthdays had a 9 in the date. Mine's the 29th, my mum's, dad's and brother's were the 9th (Dad and brother on the same day) and my granny's was the 19th. Strange..



- Alex_G - sorry you're feeling poorly. Bed is the best place for you. Hope you feel better soon. X



- I don't have any badges/pens etc, but Mr B was on Blue Peter once with his school. Before I knew him, obviously.



- Never heard of Romper Room - was it on "the other side"? We used to mainly watch BBC for some reason. Maybe my parents thought they were better quality programmes or something. But the thought of a woman on the telly actually being able to see me might have freaked me out at a tender age.



- Love the cupcakes, KatyMac! We might need a few more next week ;o)

Loved Pogles Wood and recently found out that the episodes are now on DVD via Oliver Postgates website (now run by his son). On the Xmas list!! Also loved Andy Pandy, Busy Lizzy, and Pipkins!! Don't make em like that anymore, sadly. I had a Watch with Mother video but we no longer have a video player otherwise I would curl up with it now!!

Travelling up to the Peak District today for a weekends beering and walking with the boys.



As I'm travelling can I suggest Exodus by Bob Marley for ARF.



And as for Matt's Middle-aged Midweek Moshing Moment. Nothing can follow "You Shook Me" by AC/DC. However "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes comes close.

As for Matt's MMMM ..



..and his fixation with AC/DC. Love 'em them an all that but there are a plenty of other bands and tracks that would score highly on the Fit For Moshing scale.



Don't tell anyone but this is the beginning my campaign to persuade Matt [and Simon one assumes]] to play Horslips 'Dearg Doom' - note this first sly mention of the track. Subtle eh? By the time I've finished, this track will not have have just crept into their consciousnesses, but will be screaming to be let loose on to the discerning and 'very clever' {quote Sally Boazman - Drivetime 14.09.10} listeners.

Reading about the kids show from the past brought back happy memories to me and just to let you know that the BBC remade Andy Pandy, but not as good as the original in my opinion. Also the same goes for Noddy and the magic roundabout.



You couldnt find a better old kids tv show than playaway with Brian Cant, Toni (forgot her name) and floella Benjamin with of course, big ted, little ted and humpty dumpty.

#46 Mcw - Going to make you go "Shucks!" and "AH!".



When I first met my husband - we've been married 19 years - he was mad about Sooty etc. At that time he used to work at a bakery putting jelly in pork pies. He would start work very early in the morning and finish early afternoon. To unwind he would watch Childrens' TV and adored Sooty. He would appreciate it on 2 levels - there were some hidden naughty bits for the adults. Anyhow, he got me hooked too.



Matthew had taken over from his dad at that time and each year The Sooty Show came live to Blackpool, with Matthew and Connie Crighton. We went each year - we don't have any kids - we were the only unaccompanied children in the audience! There was The House That Sooty Built, Sooty's Circus, Things that Go Bump in the Night, Sooty's Wild West Show and others. They were wonderful.



Then it was announced that Matthew was giving up, because of Arthritis I think, so on the last show we hung around backstage with loads of little kids to get his autograph. You should have seen his face when he realised we had no kids with us. He called for a doctor.



We have the show flyers and the autographs framed on our bedroom wall.

#75 Very funny! My daughter had a puppet Sweep that she absolutely adored. The amount of time we wasted trying to find him, especially at bedtime, was phenomenal! He is still around (at 18 she still refuses to part with him, he is safely in her room), a bit bald after many visits to the washing machine, a red nose sewed on by me, as his plastic nose had been lost long ago, and due to the many washes, his squeak has also gone! It will be very interesting if she secretly takes it to University with her next weekend! ;-) Mcw x
