Little bit of info, it was first played publicly at the Finney Green Pop Festival near Silverdale in Stafforshire....probably 1969?? I was there! On a country walk with my family and there were these hordes of great ubwashed people in a local farmer's field having a great time...and Mungo Jerry were the hit of the Festival selling all copies of the single on site! So there you are. History Maker or what?

#35 Ken - not taking it personally, but it does kind of take the fun away when you know your choice is a non-starter.



Liking the suggestion of Snow In The Summer though, PoS!



I sometimes have to shy away from R2 for periods of time (with the exception of CLP, who I listen to more for the man himself than his choice of music). I find that the music, whilst claiming to be a good mixture, tends to totally exclude some genres and gets a bit samey. I like ELO, for example, but feel there's too much ELO played on R2, ditto The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen and Stairway To Heaven.



I think the occassional spattering of a bit of Goth Rock would re-dress this: some Siouxsie, Cure, Cult, Sisters of Mercy .... it won't hurt anyone, honest .....!

#40 - GASP - TOO MUCH ELO??? Can you EVER have too much ELO? :-) It must be me but I never seem to hear them on R2 apart from Mr. Blue Sky here and there.



R2's remit seems to be to cater for the 40-40 yr old demographic, and as such shoudl represent the whole gamut of music from the 70s and 80s. I agree not enough "alternative" music. Oh for the days of the R1 Tommy Vance rock show. Something similar on R2 would be good. Saying that, there are lots of different genres that don't get played much. However, programmes like Radcliffe and Maconie, and Whispering Bob do try and make the choice as wide as possible.

Fluff's Saturday show was the defining music show for me. I even had to endure adverts on.....embarrassed cough.... a London independent station when he was on there.



Loved TV's Friday Rockshow in the early years and religously entered the Friday Night Connection comp without ever winning. But it became a bit too much metal for me through the years which I guess was fair with what was happening in music.
