The BBC has been a massive part of music over the generations - it's archive is a testament to that. BBC 6 music, using that archive mixed with the best of new music, and presented by people who care about the music, is EXACTLY what BBC music radio should be about.



The management of the BBC is bizarre. Zero effort raising awareness of what should be one of its crown jewels, while on the other hand spending umpteen stupid millions on the move of the national news and sports radio station away from the capital to Manchester. If it really isn't necessary for radio presenters to be on the spot at the scene of many of the political and news stories in this country, perhaps the BBC can explain why they frequently instantly send presenters, newsreaders etc. off to Washington DC and all manner of other places in the world as soon as a story breaks, even though they have people already employed to work in, and cover stories in, those locations.



The BBC website is also a national resource of which we should be proud IMO. Why are they bending over and to allow thmeselves to be shafted by the likes of the print media who want this new media all to themselves? It's a (relatively) new media - open to all and perfectly complimentary to sound and vision broadcasting IMO.



What a shambles.

But I'm guessing there will be peeps within the Radio 2 offices at the moment who aren't happy about it either. They share the same management don't they? Gideon Coe and Steve Lamaq have been known to sit in for Bob Harris. Bob had a show on 6 Music for a while. I think the evening slots (excluding Carrington, FNIMN and the Organist Entertains) are probably kindred spirits that could have found a home on 6 Music if anyone ever decided that Radio 2 evenings should mirror day times.

A post elsewhere makes a good point that if you consider the public service broadcsating remit, there is a much stronger case to close Radios 1 and 2 which are far more likely to be taken up by the public sector than 6 Music would be. And why does 1Xtra survive?

#71 His "About Face" tour with Raff Ravenscroft and Mick Ralphs in the band was great. Played several off the debut album - really great to hear "There's No Way Out of Here" etc as I'd never imagined hearing them, and he ignored the material on his MEltdown shows I think and "Island" tour.



I was about 6th row at Hammersmith and the only sour note was the idiot in the front row in front of Ralphs who kept shouting "Bad Company", not discouraged by Ralphs it should be said.

Morning all - I missed the latter part of the show - did any of us get a mensh?

Good Morning all Blesspoppets!! Been ultra busy and also not had easy access to wifi, so had to use phone to post, which is a royal pain! Great long weekend in Dorset/Devon though.



Some very interesting discussions re the Beeb yesterday. I'm no radio analyst, but I don't know any young people who listen to the radio and I fear for the future of radio, full-stop. Having been fed on an intense diet of over-stimulation, it seems to me that if media don't bombard all their senses, most young peeps just aren't interested in listening to radio.

My nephew is in his early 20s and the only time I can recall him doing listening to radio was when he travelled with me to away games on Saturdays in his teens and we listened to "The Treatment" on Radio 5 until,er, the genius Shennan (treading carefully here to avoid modding!) scrapped it in favour of the unadulterated garbage that was the Wright and Bright show.

I see the mighty Eastbourne Borough received a sound spanking last night.....



Given that Neil Warnock should last all of 5 weeks at QPR, any bets for him managing Stevenage this season?

Could it be that today's "yoof" are spoilt for choice? Not only do they have all thge normal BBC stations and the tranche of commercial stations but they can create their own rdio stations via the mediums of lastfm, spotify etc etc.
