Shirley Posts: Remembering the Good Ol' Days...
I was having a dinner with a friend the other day, when I noticed something really disturbing about his behavior... From the moment we managed to secure a table, sit down and order from menu, he could not keep his hand off...his Blackberry. Yes, that bulky black calculator-like gadget has become the center of his universe for the last few years. He is just one of many people out there who cannot live without moving their thumbs every now and then.
What happen to the good old days when you just sit and interact with other people while you are having a meal? What happen to the good old days without worrying what to tweet or to plurk so that karma will not drop? *lol*
I guess asking for simplicity is too much to ask nowadays :)
After realizing that I was a bit upset, he finally put down his Bold and apologized to me. And I cannot help wondering how many "Blackberry addicts" do that to others; if my friend is probably tuning on his smartphone every 10 seconds, that probably means he is doing it during driving, queuing, meeting, sleeping, or doing his business in the restroom. "The world will not stop turning if you stop checking on incoming messages for a while," I said to him. "...but your real moments in life will," I said to myself. Isn't it ironic that technology that was invented to make life easier and simpler turning life complicated instead? The idea was to be able to check your email anytime anywhere, so that people could do their normal activities and spend less time dealing with internet. The idea was to be able to be free from boundaries. The reality is people become less focused in doing their normal activities, people spend more more time dealing with facebook, twitter, email, instant messenger and they create their own world.
I don't have any objections to the booming of Blackberry device in Indonesia, but I just think that people should not stop living because of that. "You should get one for yourself, too," my friend suggested me. I just smile in disagreement.
Are you one of the addicts? Here is one's suggestions to cure it.
PS. Hello, it's good to be back. December is always an interesting month for me, especially because I was born 2 days after Christmas :) I am sure we will have a lot to share. Can't wait to read the teachers' open blog, too. Cheers!

Hello Shirly,Nice shoot of you, it is a intelligent blog. There won't be a Blackberry's annoyance in a rustic area. Keep on wrinting, I will wait for them. Best wishes, James.
I absolutly agree with you. I come across this kind of situations every day. Yesterday, I met a friend in the street; we had just started to talk about us when suddenly rang her mobile phone. She said: "oh, I beg your pardon", she just turned around and ignored me!!! Can you believe that??? I hate such these ridiculous situations... I think the first is a real (physically) person, then the one on the mobile, isn't it?. Happy Christmas!!
Hi Shirley, How have you been? It's great to read your entry again. I am battling with my son against playing games. If I don't stop him he will carry on until..God only knows when he quits playing games.advanced technology makes us be a slave of all gedgets. It doesn't matter how old they are. have a relaxed day!
actual its real iritating when you are with your friend, while discuss things and someone is getting busy with TELEPHONE,but its new technology that everyone has to face it these days, even though i was getting iritate with this now myself i have become one of them very busy with it
Hi Shirlley! I missed to read your blogs but now I can just to applaud to your words. Absolute agreement!
Hi, I couldn“t agree more! You are absolutely right, it gets on my nerves when I am talking to people and they have to interrupt our chat to answer the phone! Mobile phone if not consciously used can easily destroy our peace of mind and invade our privacy! I make use of them but I never let them control my life! They exist to serve me!!! Love, Monica
Mobile phone is necessary in life but sometimes it disturbs me specially while I attentively researching somthing. We know each coin has two side-negative and positive. thanks all.
