And It's Monday Again...
Thank you for all of the warm welcome and comments on my previous posts. I'm sorry if I may not be able to reply all of your comments and thoughts, but I will definitely take note on your opinions and keep you posted on my update. As I was telling you about the ad competition, I am happy to tell you that our team has gone to the Final this morning, and will hear the result on awarding night this Tuesday. I guess the prayers and support from all of you got through...
I may have given you a bit wrong impression about my working schedule. Working in ad agency does have its challenge and hardship, but unlike many other job, advertising actually is quite flexible regarding working time. Many Jakarta workers are leaving home to work at 4 or 5 am and my company did say that the official working hour is from 8.30 to 17.30, but the creative team usually have more privilege. This means I can come later than usual if the previous night I was working overtime inside or outside the office. Taking this privilege, the creative team in my office usually come later than other divisions (but, yes, we rarely see the sunset on our way home).
I am so glad that I get a chance to be guided by Ms. Nuala O'Sullivan, and her input has already helped me to improve my English. When I was a kid, my parents got me enrolled in many courses to developed my skills in sport, music, and language. My most favorite class was English. I used to have several teachers from Canada and US, and I kept on practicing my conversations with them. Before the internet era in the '90s, I have always loved writing and correspondence. I remember that I had many pen pals from around the world; the idea of sending your hand writing and expecting a reply that personally posted to you is just so invaluable. From there, I keep on absorbing more and more vocabularies in my head (not just English, but also other foreign languages). I just simply love studying languages.
I am glad that most of you enjoyed the ad that I showed earlier. I was brought up in a family who loves animals. Dogs, rabbits, squirrel, parrot, turtledove, canary bird, dove, fish; I have had them all! While most of them were being a pet, I found that dogs are more like a friend to me. I think dogs understand human's feeling and emotions. Well, my mom used to have a more "extreme" observation, saying that most of the times our dogs think that they were one of us *lol*.
After showing you one of my favorite TVC about a smart dog, I would like to share another interesting commercial which use a compelling subject: kid.
Check this YouTube video and tell we what you think. This is a TVC from Japan, which won so many awards in the past. When I first saw this, I got a goose bump and could not forget it for quite a long time. The message is striking, yet heart warming. Hope you will absorb the essence as much as I have.

Hi, you're right this commercial is striking. I'm a teacher and in my opinion my collegues should see this film. It gives a lot of thinking. I love my job because it gives a lot of opportunities to look freshly on world. Working with children is very demanding and I have to constantly working on myself.
Hi Shirley, I did like that, but I wonder if I got that right. Anyway, great post!
Hello Shirley. You are quite a skillful blogger. Each your entry performs not only interesting thoughts but also many vivid contemporary expressions. As for handwriting, computers are erasing this ability from list of human’s skills. On the other hand there are much more opportunities to meet «pen pal» than ever, so we enjoy it! There is a proliferation of web services, which provide easy and instant communication. Do you have any favorite one?
Hi, Shirly. I think this clip have a surprised ending, people may think this kid have some problems with his brain and they bring him to hospital (I guess), but when they find out the combination of the pieces that form the painting, they're really surprised and admire the kid.
Hi Shirley! The truth is that I don't like this ad. I was socked because it was used a child only for catch our atention. It is really something unbeliable and I am sure that there is other ways of saying the message about our imagination without use a child. Why can children and animals be used only for sell more? Do you think that this is good? I am thinking specialy of charity organitation, because they usually use the face or poor children to ask for money. Any way, I have watched many interenting, beauty and skilfull ad that not need to use "bad" resources. Bye for now
Hi shirley, this was so interesting clip which has mentioned to be more carefull about kids and decision about them. their unusual behaivor could emanate from simple reasons which we would find easily around them.got the right?
Hi Shirly, you have very beautifull name and may ask what it mean? Your style of writting a blog is lively and interest of reader remain till end .The ad make no sense for me .Please you explain for us. Take care
Isn't it great? This commercial showed that each child has their own way of thinking, and sometimes we as adults limit our minds and therefore, we expect the kids to think like us. I hope this commercial also proves that advertising can be a good influence :)
Hi,Shirly. I think, what the child doing ? In the first time, I think the child is autism but when I look the puzzle him made I feel amazing. The child is brillian to make creativy on him imagination. And the child continue him job although everybody think He is a daft boy. It is a wonderfull clip.
Hi Pilar, thanks for your reply. Yes, this ad use a child as the main subject, because it's a foundation built for children. I've just showed 2 compelling and most popular subjects in advertising, which are children and animals. I hope you'd find my other choices more interesting.
Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
