Dog Person or Cat Person?
Wow, time flies... I just realized that today is Friday, because I didn't go home yesterday. Can you believe it... I had to stay in the office in order to finish my work for an ad competition. It is for the first Asian advertising festival, which held to recognize young talents in advertising industry. In order to win, a team (consist of 2-4 people) should solve a problem based on the given brief. After that, several chosen finalists should present their works in front of the judges, and they will decide the winner. The announcement for finalist is tomorrow, and I am a bit anxious to hear the result. Wish me luck!
As I've promised, I am going to show you some of my favorite commercials of all times. One of Creative Director in Saatchi& Saatchi used to say that two most compelling subjects on advertising are animal and children. Well, I find it quite true ya... Here is one of TVCs that had captured my attention, way before I entered the industry. I watched it during my second year in art college, and since then I felt that I wanted to join in the fun of creating commercial and entertain people.
It was a TVC for IKEA which used a dog as a star, and it was so cute! Check it out through YouTube and tell me what you think of it. Maybe I really liked this TVC cute because I am a dog person. I think dog is adorable and loyal. Some thinks that dogs are stupid, but I beg to differ. Because I like dog, I find cats are less adorable... I don't know why, but those two animals seem to always have the opposite impression. How about you? Do you think a person's favorite animal can define his/her personality? Let's discuss.

PS. One correction from my previous post: yes, I've mistakenly written the population of Jakarta. It was the entire population of Indonesia, and Jakarta was the largest population with 8.7 millions people. Thank you for all your concerns about the earthquake that happened in Indonesia...and yes, it happen near the capital, in Tasikmalaya for exact (M=7.3). During the time, I was brainstorming for ideas with my teammates and we were sitting near a swimming pool on a restaurant garden. Guess what happened? The water inside the pool was shaking hard, along with the gazebo we were sitting on! The earthquake happened in 3 minutes, and it was quite an experience. Well, I am thankful that Jakarta is still in good condition. My condolence for all the victims who lost their homes. Let's remember them in our prayers.

Hi Shirley! It's a really clever commercial and the dog is more than cute. Couldn't stop laughing! I am a dog and a cat person, I owe 4 dogs and 1 cat. I used to think cats weren't as sociable as dogs, but they actually are!Well, at least mine is. However, cats are not even a bit loyal LOL Good luck in the competion tomorrow xx
Hello Shirley! How do you do? lol Well I´m very fascinated for advertisements and when I was a little boy I used to memorise all texts of those advertisements juss repeating each word spoken on them. Well I use to work 12 hours per night from 0600 pm to 0600 am. It´s hard buy I can´t complain because my gives me some positive returns, professionally and economicaly telling you. Tell us more about your country. I´d love to know about your culture and costumes.
Very interesting to read and collect. Actually I had such experience while I working in USA.
Hello Shirley, You're a busy person. Do you have hobbies if you get time from your busy schedule. I like your dog and cat story. I myself like cats personally becuase its easy to take care of them in comparison with dogs. But dogs are more loyal then cats. Bye for now. Bestwishes, Mahjabeen.
Dear Shirley!,first of all I wish you be one of the competition winner, also I send my condolance to all peaple who effect by earthquick and lost thier family member, Wow, actually I like dogs becouse it is more layol than cats Ragards, Rahyab
Hi Shirley! The ad is very creative and the dog is a really great actor. I don't like dogs really much (they lick my legs!), but I must admit the dog of the ad seems adorable. I prefer cats, because they are quieter, although I don't like them much either. I wish you do well in your competition. Regards.
Hi Shirly wish you a success in you advertising competition. I am sure your team will be the winners. I am totaly agree with your openion on dogs and cats dogs are more sensitive and adorable than cats. They are dedicated to their care taker and active have good mind power.
Shirley,I keep crossed my fingers, and I will lose my temper...let us know the results. good luck for you.
Hi Shirley! you have probably received the results of competition by now and I hope there is good news about it. I enjoyed the IKEA advert very much; it is a clever way to communicate a purpose without words. Anyway, some of my favorites are the ones for Sony Bravia TV. This is a link to Sony Bravia "Balls": http://www.fallon.co.uk/#/work/bravia-balls.html the colors and the sense of lightness are really wonderful. best
honestly i hate dogs, but not bad for commercials.
Hello Shirley. I’d like to say your writing is fair and performs an easy style. Advert with starring dog is perfect indeed! Short, sharp, cute and imprinting in memory for ever. It’s not an easy task to invent something leveled as high as «Ikeadog» is. As for your question whether or not pet defines personality of its owner, I think by and large it’s true. I’ve noticed many times visual similarity between dogs and owners, haven’t you? Finally I’d ask you overpopulate Jakarta no more. What would you do if Jakarta was as huge as Indonesia is?
Hi Shirley, I'm rather a cat person and I would like to have a cat but my daughter is allergic to its fur. So,I've recently bought her a fish which she named Felicja. My best friend has a cat and she claims that her animal makes her relaxed and ease her stress.
Hello, Shirley. You were working all night for the contest? Wow, that's impressive how hard you work for your aims. Sometimes my friends also had to stay long at work when it's a deadline, but not for the whole night. Be careful because such delays are bad for the health. And our health is one of the most precious things in our life. Concerning cats and dogs. I used to think that I liked dogs most. But now I have a beautiful cat and love it so much. So all depends on reall conditions :)
Hi Paula, I forgot that there are people who love both cats and dogs like you :) See, I am a dog person, just can't resist them! My last dog was a Mini Pinscher, and he died in 13 years of age. My whole family was so sad, because we loved him like a member of family. Thanks for your good wishes. My team went through as finalist, and we just finished presenting this morning. I'll keep you posted on the result.
Hi Shirley! Good luck in the competion tomorrow. I'm not dog nor cat person as I have not dog or cat in my house. Usually we don't keep pet in house. Anyway it sounds very interesting and my kids must be happy with all the kids.
Hi Shirley, How did the compition go? I really hope your hard work is paid off. I'm not an animal lover and frankly,I never get into it.But I can't stand any animals being treated brutally.Have a good day!
Hi, Shirley! It’s similar to what you have said that dogs are adorable and loyal. When I was a wee girl, I used to adopt a lovely dog who had black fur. He was as good as gold and he almost never barked. Wherever I went, he always followed me back and forth. Each time I went back from school, he would run an extra mile to welcome me. Unfortunately we were forbidden to raise dogs because of canine madness and one night we lost him. When I am writing these words, I am overcome with acute nostalgia for my cute black-fur dog.
Hello! Shirley, I feel you won! am i right? Living in Africa, in the the scarsity of desert, and in a an open society where there is almost no individuality,i am not an animal lover . Not surprising. and i can not justify giving money in willings to animals in some parts of the world while people diing of hunger everywhere!
hi, shirley! my history is very similar i so have a dog is very interesting your collect and read ok.godd loof for you.
Hi Shirley! I wish you good look in the competition. Best wishes, Ana Paula.
Here from the cold and rainy northern part of the globe good luck to you in the competition. I'm a dog and a cat person, but at the moment we have only got a dog. She's a golden retriever mix, and has a very nice personality. My collegue at the school has a dog with 4 puppies, now 3 weeks old. They're absolutely adorable. But cats are so clever too, and I like the fact that they choose you, but they're always a bit independent. In fact it's more like they own you.
Thank you for all of your support! Well, the result has come out last night... unfortunately, my team didn't win the competition. But the good news is, my other colleagues won and my company still got the pride.
Hi Shirly, I think by now you probably got your results and most like won the competition but anyway best of luck in case you haven’t got the results yet. I imagine you very intelligent person as it is not easy to think of new ideas for making commercials. We don’t realise how much effort is put into it to make them. I also think children look cute in advertisements but I am not so sure about dogs. To be honest I don’t like dogs, in fact we don’t have any pets. So may be it is because I don’t have any experience with animals. I like cats a little but not all cats, only Persian cats. Sometimes in the future when I have the time to look after an animal, I am going to have a parrot. I absolutely adore parrots. Now, about your question, if favourite animal can define a person’s personality. In my opinion it probably would. As a person probably like an animal because it might have some qualities that a person might have. For example, if a person is out going and social than that person might like dogs. On the other hand if someone like cats than that person might be quiet and shy. During writing this here a few people came to mind who own a cat but they are very social. Anyway this is my personal opinion. It would be interesting to research if a relationship exist between favourite animal and personality. I am happy to hear that earthquake did not cause any serious damage. It sound so scary when you see everything moving and not sure whether you are going to survive the earthquake or not. I have had the experience of earthquake in my childhood and when it happened, I remember we had to move out of the rooms and stay outside until it was over. I also remember that most of the time it happened at night. Is it the case now? I think I am imposing too many questions on you so I will finish my message here. Take care
Hi Rabail, The earthquake actually happened during the day time. Can't imagine if it happened at night, or when you're asleep ya... scary thought. Thanks for visiting, everybody.
